Drivers Power Mirror Whistles While DrivingCurrently Applies To: 0709 CR-V

Is the drivers power mirror making an annoying

high-pitched whistle while driving? A couple of thingscould be causing this:

Theres a gap between the power mirror baseand the door.

The black tape at the base of the power mirrorwire harness isnt sealing well or its unraveling.

To fix this problem, find someone to help you andthen follow these steps:

    1. Lower the drivers window all the way.

    2. Using a trim tool, carefully pry off the mirrormount cover.

    3. With your assistant holding the mirror, removethe three flange nuts, then have your assistantpull the mirror base away from the door.

    4. Cut an 8 mm x 150 mm piece of 5T EPT foam, and apply it to the vertical edge of the mirrorbase.

    5. Starting at the base of the power mirror wireharness, peel off about 3 inches of the blacktape.

    6. Cut a 100 mm length of electrical tape, andrewrap just that part of the harness. Make sureits a tight overlap for a smooth finish.

    7. Have your assistant position the mirror baseagainst the door while you reinstall the flangenuts and torque them to 9.8 Nm (7.2 lb-ft).

    8. Reinstall the mirror mount cover.

    9. Go out for a test-drive. If the whistle is now

gone, youre done with this repair. But if its stillthere . . . then look for other possible causes.

Front Passengers Seat Belt Tongue Stopper Button Too LowCurrently Applies To:0710 CR-V

If you get a vehicle in your shop for a complaint that the front passengers seat belt tongue stopper button is too lowcompared to the one on the drivers side, leave that button alone! Its supposed to be lower to keep the seat belttongue from scuffing the B-pillar lower trim when no ones sitting in the seat.

Weve noticed that some dealers have been trying to even things out by replacing the seat belt retractor or addinganother button so the tongue sits higher on the seat belt. A word of advice: Dont do that! If you file a claim for the

work, your dealership could get charged back.

A Word About 0W-20 Engine OilCurrently Applies To:10 Accord Crosstour, 0310 Civic Hybrid, 10 CR-V, 0006 Insight, and 10 Insight

Without a doubt, oil plays a major part when it comesto an engines performance and health. 0W-20engine oil is fast becoming the recommended servicefill for many new Honda models (and those fromother automakers), replacing the ever-popular5W-20. Why? Because in engines designed for itsuse, it provides superior starting performance andfuel economy without the risk of premature engine

    wear.

Engine wear typically happens when you start theengine cold and its warming up, so its reallyimportant for the engine oil to get to work right away.0W-20 is a very low-viscosity oil thats speciallyformulated to quickly reach critical enginecomponents when the engine is started. It also helpsthe engine use less fuel. The zero in 0W-20 doesntmean zero viscosity; it means superior low-temperatureperformance.

Honda has been developing and testing engines fora number of years now with the expectation thatsomeday 0W-20 would become the oil of choice. Itsbeen used in many Honda models sold in Europeand Japan since 2001 with no reported problems, and its been the factory fill for all Insights and CivicHybrids sold in the U.S.

So, if the vehicle youre working on calls for 0W-20engine oil, make sure you use it; its whats best forthat engine. And just so you know, were coming outsoon with a job aid that shows which current Hondaengines using 5W-20 can also use 0W-20. With this

job aid, your dealership will enjoy more servicing andstocking flexibility.

Keep Your Distance WhenDoing Sensor ID LearningCurrently Applies To: All models with initiator-lessand initiator-type TPMS

When doing sensor ID learning, make sure you keepat least 10 feet of clearance between the tirepressure sensors youre trying to learn and other tirepressure sensors nearby. Those sensors can be onany TPMS-equipped vehicles, loose TPMS-typewheels, or just other loose tire pressure sensors(including any in your pocket).

If you dont keep your distance, youll wind up havingto do some very time-consuming repair work(especially on an Accord Crosstour) to make thingsright. And since its a technician-related error, thattime cant be claimed under warranty. The 10-footclearance rule is clearly stated in the HDS on-screen

instructions, the S/M procedure, the accessoryinstallation instructions, and even in a recentlyposted iN message.

Heres how this problem could happen:

Youre installing a set of accessory wheels. You pulloff the factory wheels and lay them close by (within10 feet). You mount the new wheels, and then hookup the HDS and try doing sensor ID learning. Sincethe tire pressure sensors on the factory wheels aretoo close, one or more of them gets triggered andlearned instead of the ones on the new wheels. Youllknow thats happened if the low tire pressureindicator keeps on flashing and wont go out when

you drive the vehicleover 28 mph, like it says to doin the last step of the sensor ID learn procedure.

If you run into this problem on a Accord Crosstour, heres what youve got to do:

    1. Drive the vehicle for more than 20 minutes over28 mph, and then turn off the engine for30 seconds.

    2. Start the engine again, and keep driving until thelow tire pressure indicator stops flashing andgoes off. Youll also notice the TPMS indicatorcomes on.

    3. Use the HDS to clear any TPMS DTCs.

    4. Make sure theres 10 feet of clearance from othertire pressure sensors (remember the rule), thendo sensor ID learning again.

If you run into this problem on any other model, justredo the sensor ID learn procedure.

Got a vehicle in your shop because of a strong fuelsmell when filling the tank? The culprit might be adamaged or missing nozzle O-ring on the fuelreceptacle.

If this is the case, order P/N 91068-S1G-003 andreplace that O-ring. Then drive over to a local CNGfilling station and fill up the tank. If that strong smell isnow gone, youre done with this repair. But if its not,or that O-ring was OK to begin with, then continuewith normal system troubleshooting.

HomeLink Transceiver WontLearn Remote TransmittersCodeCurrently Applies To: All models with HomeLink

To stretch battery life, many remote transmitters

(were talking about the ones used for controllinggarage doors, lighting, or security gatesespeciallythe ones you keep in your pocket) broadcast theircodes for just 3 to 10 seconds when you push andhold their transmit button. Problem is, thats often notenough time for the HomeLink transceiver to learnthe code.

If the transceiver is having a tough time learning thattransmitters code, try pushing the transmit buttonagain and again. This should give it enough time tolearn the code.

A/C Blows Warm Air;Compressor and FansRapidly CycleCurrently Applies To: 0709 Civic

Got a vehicle in your shop because the A/C isblowing warm air and the compressor and fans arerapidly cycling? A bad evaporator temperaturesensor just might be the culprit.

Heres how you can find out for sure:

    1. Order a new evaporator temperature sensorP/N 80560-SNA-A01).

    2. Unplug the original sensors 2P connector fromthe wire harness, and plug in the new sensors2P connector.

    3. Start the engine, and turn on the A/C.

If the compressor and fans stop their rapidcycling, the original sensor is bad. Refer topages 21-86 thru 21-88 of the 0610 Civic

S/M, and replace that sensor. (Online, enterkeyword EVAPORATOR and selectEvaporator Core Replacement from the list.)

If the compressor and fans cycle like theyshould, then continue with normal systemtroubleshooting.

IMPORTANT:Never run the A/C for more than just acouple of minutes with this setup. If you do, theevaporator core will freeze up and the system couldget damaged.
