On behalf of the Executive Committee of the International Union of AirPollution Prevention Associations, and the Organizing Committee inMontreal, I would like to invite you to attend the 9th World Clean AirCongress in Montreal from August 30 to September 4, 1992. A strongtechnical program and a warm welcome await you.

The need for international and global cooperation on environmental issuesis very apparent.

We share the world we live in and need to share in the ways to preserve it.To develop the mechanisms for international coordination is vital. This isnot only true for government bodies and private sector organizations, butalso for national, non-governmental organizations. IUAPPA was designedto carry out such a function, and each year does this in a more effective way.

Make Montreal your rendezvous from August 30 to September 4, 1992.1can assure you that you will enjoy the hospitality of this third largestFrench-speaking city in the world, which also has a distinct multiculturalflavor.

9th World Clean Air CongressAugust 30-September 4,1992

Queen Elizabeth HotelMontreal, Canada

The congress will address critical issues in the globalenvironment through the presentation of more than 400papers by authors from 30 countries.

Although the principal focus of the congress will be onissues related to the various aspects of air pollution, 6 of the28 sessions will be on waste management issues, an area ofincreasing attention by the International Union of AirPollution Prevention Associations (IUAPPA).

IUAPPA is a union of national professional or voluntarynon-profit associations concerned with the maintenance ofclean air and environmental protection. Founded in 1964by seven national associations, the union now has membersand observers from 30 countries. The Air & Waste Manage-ment Association is one of the founding organizationsleading to the formation of the union. The 1990-92 presi-dent, Steve Hart, and the vice-president, Martin Rivers, areresponsible for the 1992 Montreal Congress, the first forCanada. The congresses are held every three years. The1995 congress will be in Finland.

Opening Plenary Session

The opening plenary session, on Monday, August 31, willbe opened by G. Steve Hart, President of IUAPPA. TheMinister of Environment Canada, U.S. EPA Administrator, the Minister of Environment Quebec and the Mayor of theCity of Montreal will be invited to participate in thisimportant session that will set the tone for the congress onclean air.

Technical Program

The technical program will be conducted in nine concur-rent sessions.

In the sessions each paper, including the introduction ofthe speaker and eventual discussion will be allotted 20minutes net; a strict regime will be maintained by thechairpersons in order to enable delegates to change sessionsat any time they want.
