Overview
With the compact DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS systems from Casa, Kathrein offers a new generation of models which set completely new levels of performance in terms of fl exibility, operational features, packing density and economy.
A fundamental feature is thereby the full separation of the downstream and upstream channel modules in one physical chassis, allowing a fl exible and ongoing system match-up to actual requirements based on a non-legacy and specifi cally designed chip technology.
This achieves the highest packing density in the market. One C3200 platform can for example handle up to 80 downstream and 16 upstream channels or 48 downstream and 48 upstream chan-nels in one single 19" module with only 3 rack units height.
The outstanding technology and highly integrated design also ensure a high operational economy. Low cost per channel and simple system extension with software upgrades offer high investment secu-rity and enable a comfortable step-by-step system build-up.

Full DOCSIS 3.0 features
The convincing technology of the CMTS platforms all fulfil more than DOCSIS 3.0 requirements, in part extensively. The highest channel bonding capability of up to 16 channels (800 Mbps) in upstream and up to 16 channels (480 Mbps) in the downstream secure full future-proof features. In this way any fur-ther advances in cable modem technology can be immediately utilised without having to change units or upgrade. In addition, IPv6, AES coding and de-coding and dynamic load balancing are supported.
Integrated Edge QAM function
The downstream channels can also be operated as MPEG or DVB-C conform MPEG-Video Edge QAMs, for example for digital Cable TV, Video-on-Demand, interactive TV and for network-based video recording (DVR). The unit receives MPEG-2over IP/Ethernet packets in multiple (MPTS) or in single programme transport streams (SPTS). The MPTS is then de-multiplexed, the native MPEG-2 packets being passed on to the QAM interfaces.The re-multiplexing function creates multiple pro-gramme transport streams (MPTS) for the designa-ted cable channels. The PSI/SI table processing, the PID filtering and substitution and PCR de-jitte-ring is carried out in all model types.
Both CBR and VBR traffi c are supported for nar-rowcast and broadcast applications. The C3200 series unit is the only product which can at one and the same time make the most efficient use of the RF bandwidth and maintain video quality concur-rently using tools such as the statistical multiplexingof all MPEG video and DOCSIS traffic and the dy-namical scheduling of MPEG and IP traffic.
Extensive applications
For configuration and management the CMTS supports Command Line Interface (CLI) and SNMP operational functions such as “show cable mo-dem”, “show ARP”, spectral management, CPU and memory resources reporting, user privilege management are all included in the latest productrelease.
Further extensive IP functions, such as DHCP relay and option 82, several DHCP servers, proxy ARP, IP sub-net bonding, IGMP snooping, IGMP v2 and v3, access control lists (ACL) are also included.

Overview
The C1G Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) is a new class of cable edge device that implements all of the (Euro)DOCSIS 3.0 features enabling service providers to cost effectively offer highly scalable broadband services such as IPTV, video-over-IP, interactive gaming, as well as traditi-onal broadband access and VoIP services.
Due to its extremely compact size (38.1 cm x 22.2 cm x 1 RU), the C1G can be easily deployed in locations such as multi-dwelling units, hotels and motels, and small hubs.
The C1G supports 1 downstream QAM port, 2 DOCSIS upstream ports and 2 GbE (SFP) network ports. Confi gurations for the C1G range from 2DS x 2US up to 8DS x 8US.

Compact architectureThe C1G CMTS comes in a compact 38.1 cm x 22.2 cm x 1 RU chassis that provides operators the maximum fl exibility in deploying cost-effective solu-tions. The C1G is a complete CMTS solution with 1 downstream QAM port, 2 DOCSIS upstream ports and 2 GbE (SFP) network ports.
The C1G can scale from a 2DS x 2US to an 8DS x 8US confi guration as your subscriber base grows. Channels can be added remotely by simply acti-vating license keys.
In EuroDOCSIS operation, the C1G provides from 100 Mbps to 400 Mbps of bandwidth in the down-stream direction.
In DOCSIS operation, the C1G delivers from 80 Mbps to 320 Mbps of bandwidth in the down-stream direction.
On the upstream link, the C1G supports up to 2 logical channels per physical channel.
Rich Operational FeaturesThe C1G supports the industry standards Com-mand Line Interface (CLI) and SNMP for confi gura-tion and management. Operational features such as show cable modem, spectral management, IP bundling, CPU and memory resource reporting and user privilege management are available. Further-more, the unit also comes with factory-installed basic confi guration that activates GigE ports and CLI on boot-up. The C1G functions as a Layer 3 routing device. It supports static as well as dynamic routing proto-cols. For route redundancy, multiple default routes can be confi gured. Layer 2 bridging, VLAN, RIP, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, PIM-SM and L2VPNs are sup-ported.
Extensive IP features such as DHCP Relay and option 82, multiple DHCP servers, proxy ARP, IGMP snooping, IGMP v2 and v3 are available.
Applications
The C1G enables the delivery of (Euro)DOCSIS-based IP applications, such as broadband access, VoIP, IPTV and video-over-IP to housing complexes, multiple dwelling units, hotels, etc.

The C3200 CMTS also offers all previously descri-bed advantages of the Casa DOCSIS 3.0 units. Due to its distinct modular structure, the unit can be fl exibly matched to the requirements of smaller, medium-sized and larger nets.Redundancy and hot-swapping of modules during operation ensure high operational security. In the 3 RU 19" housing, up to 80 downstream and 16 upstream channels can be handled, for example. In the following the series features are listed.
