Behind the scenes87 88Here are a few of the organisations and festivals which
keep the city creative as the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design.
Creative workspaces include

94District 10, 94 95Vision Building includes Comics Creative Space, Dundee MakerSpace, NEoN Digital Arts, Biome Collective, Creative Dundee and more. 95 96V&A Dundee run events and activities in the run up to the doors opening in 2018. 96 97University of Dundee, 97 98Abertay University and 98 99Dundee & Angus College all have leading art/design courses and each have Degree Shows running in May.

Places to stroll and sights to see

Live music
48 49Clark’s on Lindsay Street for good live sessions throughout the week. Formerly a library, 49 50The Reading Rooms is an underground club renowned for its ability to cross musical genres and keep things going late, since 2002. 51BeatGenerator Live has gigs by new talent and touring bands. Then, if you’re peckish head to 51 52Clark’s 24 Hour Bakery for a peh or a Helicopter.
Indie spots and shopsMake sure you visit Downtown Dundee (around Exchange Street/Dock Street), Nethergate/Perth Road/Westport, Union Street and Broughty Ferry.
52 53Groucho’s has rare and vintage finds of the vinyl variety and 53 54Assai has new vinyl and kit. 54 55DCA Shop stocks contemporary design and craft from near and far. Visit optical boutique, 55 56Spex Pistols for frames/lenses and brilliant interior/banter. 56 57Pretty Fly Studios for locally designed gifts. 57 58Fluph for wool and yarn, workshops and classes. 58 59Fraser’s Fruit and Veg and 59 60Clementines, both are local greengrocers stocking the best produce. Step back in time at 63 64JA Braithwaite’s, the best place to buy quality ground coffee.
Observatory, 81Baxter Park with a grand pavilion. The city centre calm found in 81 82The Howff cemetery. 82 83Magdalen Green with bandstand is a great space on a sunny day; and 83 84the Botanic Gardens are too. 84 85Kinshaldy Beach at Tentsmuir is stunning and has to be one of the UK’s best, it’s on route to St Andrews. 85 86The Sidlaw Hills behind Auchterhouse are brilliant for endless walking.
86 87Get a day pass on the Number 73 bus and spend your day visiting a trio of great sandy beaches in Carnoustie, Monifieth and Broughty Ferry – have a pint in the Fisherman’s, an ice-cream in Visocchi’s; explore the Barnhill Rock Gardens and Broughty Ferry Castle.
