ARTICLES

Definition: An article is a word used to modify a noun; which is a person, place, object or idea. There are two types of article:

1. The Definite Article (The)- “The” is called the definite articles. It defines its noun as something specific (e.g something unique, something being identified by the speaker).

I love the apple pie after the meal. 2. The Indefinite Article (A, An)- “A” and “An” are called the indefinite articles. They define

their noun as something unspecific (e.g something unspecific, something mentioned for the first time). A (before a singular noun beginning with a consonant sound) Consonant sounds are those which are apart from letters a,e,i,o,u.

I have a dog. An (before a singular noun beginning with a vowel sound) Vowel sounds are those letters starting with letters a,e,I,o,u.

I ate an apple yesterday.
