AHMSA (Altos Homos deMexico) is the largest integrated steel plant in Mexico, with its 3.1 MMMT of liquid steel production programme for 1995, is the core of the Steel Division of Grupo Acerero del Norte (GAN). Part of the same GAN Group are the Coal and Ore Mines Divisions, located at 120 and 380 Km of AHMSA, Monclova Works, respectively. The paper deals with the implementation process of the quality pro- gramme, and the results of this commitment at the coal mines, coke plants and blast furnaces. Extractions were carried out with 2-butanone at temperatures and pressures above the critical point in order to maintain the high-surface-area semicoke structure as the pressure was released, The temperatures and pressures were then brought down while keeping the temperature constant.
