  • Same-day grocery delivery startup ShopWings launchesin SydneyGet your groceries delivered by a personal shopper to your door in 2 hours

    26 JANUARY 2015, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Sydney, January 27th 2015 ShopWings, the online supermarket with 2-hour delivery, launches in Sydney today. ShopWings delivers everyday products from local grocery

stores straight to the customers doorstep. Users select their favourite shop (including

ALDI, Coles and Harris Farm), pick their groceries on the website

www.shopwings.com.au and the items arrive two hours after the order is placed or

during a later 1-hour delivery window depending on the customers preference.

ShopWings professional shoppers provide a fast and convenient connection between

    stores and customers.

According to a report from IBISWorld, the online grocery sales industry had not yet reached

the scale of the online retailing sector over the past few years however it is one of the online

sectors which is expected to grow the fastest. The industry revenues are expected to grow by

more than 15% per annum in the coming years as the use of virtual grocery stores becomes

    more common.

Manutea Dupont, co-founder & Managing Director of ShopWings Australia, explains: We

believe a lot of people are busy and seek modern solutions that save them time. ShopWings

was founded to replace the hassle of traditional shopping with an innovative alternative, so our

customers can get what they need from their favourite stores, when they need it without

having to go to the supermarket themselves. Australians spend 2.5 hours per week on grocery

shopping, thats almost an entire week spent every year in a shop! Think about all the great

things they could do with this time. It therefore seems obvious to us that with the right service

online shopping will expand a lot in the next few years.

ShopWings is expanding overseas just three months after the initial launch in Germany.

Dupont states, We are very proud that Australia is the first country ShopWings is expanding

into. Australia is a modern and innovation-hungry country. Sydney in particular is a fast-pasted

city full of busy people, who are all looking for innovative ways to make their lives easier.

Were not the first in the online grocery delivery space but we are the first ones to do it well:

you can now shop online from your favourite supermarkets that didnt have the same-day

delivery option before and you dont need to wait at home all day with our 1 hour delivery

windows. Our team doesnt only deliver everyday goods - it provides our customers with more

  • time for other important things in their lives.

ShopWings is addressing an emerging need and establishing a new culture of online grocery

shopping. Dupont states, We are convinced that customers want the internet to be more

personal. Currently, there is a lack of human involvement in online grocery shopping.

Overcoming the lack of the emotional component in online shopping will have a strong positive

impact on customer attraction and retention.

At ShopWings, personal shoppers fill this void and create the human link. They also really like

it. A ShopWings personal shopper said, We enjoy working for ShopWings because it allows

us to choose our own working hours while helping people in their everyday lives. It is great to

combine the advantages of conventional grocery stores with the convenience of an online

    service.

    How it works

On the website www.shopwings.com.au customers can choose from a large and diverse range

of products across many local supermarkets (including ALDI, Coles or Harris Farm). After

filling their virtual shopping cart and placing an order, the user can choose the best time for

delivery. Based on the customers chosen delivery time slot and address, an algorithm

determines the most suitable personal shopper to carry out the order. Delivery costs $8.90,

however the first delivery is free. Customers pay online via commonly accepted payment

    methods.

    About ShopWings

ShopWings has been launched by five founders based in Germany and is led in Australia by

Manutea Dupont and Guillaume Ang. The company started its service in October 2014 in

Munich, Germany. Within a month it expanded to the German capital, Berlin, and it plans to

expand to other cities and countries in the near future. ShopWings is supported by Rocket

Internet, the worlds largest Internet platform outside the US and China, which, alongside the

Iconic, HelloFresh, Zalando, Groupon International and eDarling, has built many successful

    ABOUT ROCKET INTERNET

    Our Mission

Rocket's mission is to become the worlds largest Internet platform outside of the United States and China. Rocket

identifies and builds proven Internet business models and transfers them to new, underserved or untapped markets

where it seeks to scale them into market leading online companies. Rocket is focused on proven online business

models that satisfy basic consumer needs across three sectors: eCommerce, marketplaces and financial

technology. Rocket was founded in 2007 and now has more than 25,000 employees across its network of

companies, which operate in more than 100 countries on five continents.

    Our Focus

Our e-commerce companies include retail companies in the areas of fashion, general merchandise, home and

living, office supplies and food and groceries. Our marketplace companies seek to displace traditional supply chains

by creating venues where buyers and sellers can transact directly, and include real estate and car online

classifieds, travel and transport, and food delivery companies. Our third sector, financial technology, includes

companies that focus on bringing together borrowers and lenders in regions and segments that are underserved by

traditional banks, particularly in the consumer and small and medium-sized enterprise segments, and on facilitating

    payments.

    Our Strategy

As part of our global strategy, we have created regional Internet groups in Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America and

the Middle East in order to bundle local market and business model insights, facilitate regional commercial,

strategic and investment partnerships, in particular with mobile telecommunication providers, enable local recruiting

and sourcing and accelerate the regional rollout of our companies. We have developed proprietary technology

where we believe it provides our companies with a competitive advantage. Our proprietary technology is highly

flexible and scalable and provides our companies with significant cost and speed advantages, particularly during

their initial rapid launch and rollout processes.

  • Our Platform

Our platform has enabled us to build a large, global network of companies and has historically put us in a position to

launch more than 10 new companies every year through application of a standardized business model identification

and development process. Every new company that we start accelerates the virtuous circle of synergy creation

among our companies. The larger the size of our network of companies, the more significant our opportunity is to

benefit from synergies and network effects with respect to our suppliers, solution providers, customers and

    employees.
