It has been a year of amazing accomplishments across OPEN M. We fed over 33,000 meals. During this busy holiday season, we provided for over 650 children and passed out over 210 boxes of food totaling over 32,000 pounds. Since the Community Works Connection (CWC) program’s inception, we found nearly 140 new jobs, and we have had over 3,400 patient visits in our Free Health Clinic. This achievement is a credit to all involved who are constantly working, tirelessly at times, and giving of yourselves. I cannot even begin to imagine the possibilities for what we can realize together for the future of OPEN M. We have made important decisions, such as ending our Building Blocks program, beginning a new strategic plan and S.W.O.T. analysis, starting a new Young Adults Excelling (Y.A.E.) program and, of course, bringing on a new CEO. A big thank you to Dottie Achmoody, past CEO, for her many years of service. She will be missed. As the 2017 holiday season comes to an end, we are so grateful for each and every volunteer, staff member, board member and organization that invested in OPEN M. Yes, there is much work that we still need to accomplish. I know we will continue to work as a team to advance the good works of OPEN M. I could not be more excited and proud about what God has in store for us in 2018, and I look forward to leading the way. With the holidays behind us and as we begin 2018 it is a great time to look back at this unforgettable year. Together we have reached new heights with our clients and our work within Summit County. I am i m m e n s e l y proud of the work that we have done to make OPEN M a beacon on the South Akron hill.

OPEN M continues to do well and show the love of Christ to our community. With the help of our donors, board members, volunteers and staff, we are making a difference in issues that

touch thousands of lives. From healing the sick to feeding the hungry to case management for those in the struggle for jobs, we continue to make a positive difference.

Together we have achieved much in 2017.

Together we are also making an impact on some of the most important issues facing society - healthcare, jobs and food. Our clinic has helped many individuals in need of health services increasing our dental and counseling services by offering more

appointments. The success of OPEN M in creating jobs within our CWC program has caught the eye of Ohio Jobs & Family Services and other local agencies. We have expanded our food pantry by

augmenting the Senior Box program, adding Mature Services employees and have continued to increase our collaboration with the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of OPEN M, and we are planning to have a gala on September 14th to celebrate God’s goodness to our community. This achievement is a credit to all involved who are constantly working, tirelessly at times, and giving of yourselves. I cannot even begin to imagine the possibilities for what we can realize together for the future of OPEN M.

We have made important decisions, such as ending our Building Blocks program, beginning a new strategic plan and S.W.O.T. analysis, starting a new Young Adults Excelling (Y.A.E.) program

and, of course, bringing on a new CEO.

I know we will continue to work as a team to advance the good works of OPEN M. additional gifts that we received!

Each child and family received some great presents right from their own Christmas list, new pajamas, plenty of extra stocking stuffers, hats & gloves, school supplies for every elementary aged child, and over 160lbs of food!

Santa even made an appearance and brought out that extra smile from some of the little ones who came to pick up their family’s gifts.

It was a magical day full of joy, laughter, happy tears and beautiful mem-ories made! Our deepest and most sincere thanks to each of you for your donations, sponsorships, shopping trips, volunteer hours, prayers and ongo-ing support for OPEN M and all that we do.

2017 proved to be one of our largest, and most successful Christmas for the Love of Children event so far.

Not only were we able to help more families and provide more food for them, our families were also fully financially sponsored by our amazing donors. This meant that, for the first time, OPEN M didn’t have to dip into our operations budget to make up the difference. We are ever grateful for your overwhelming support for this great event this year!

We were able to sponsor 202 families this year, which ended up totaling 636 kids! Even more special was we we’re also able to help out an additional 15 or so children with some

A Christmas blessing

CLINIC CORNER

The Spirit of Christmas and God’s presence was certainly present in the clinic last month.

The clinic received several phone requests for immediate appointments from people with very serious medical needs, including a request from a local church for us to help two homeless people found in the woods. It was so difficult to say “I’m sorry, but we are fully booked until the end of January” to these requests.

We already had over 30 patients scheduled for only 3 doctors at a Tuesday night clinic. We faithfully put everyone requesting an appointment onto the schedule knowing that the powers to be would provide for us again.

We sent out a plea to all medical providers who volunteer at the clinic, asking for one more doctor to step up and help out. As clinic approached, 5 additional doctors came in to help out. We also had 3 specialists in house, 4 people working in the pharmacy, and more nurse volunteers than we expected.

We were able to see 6 new patients that night, and were able to provide at least 120 individual filled prescriptions to people free of charge.

On the clinic’s Christmas list was of course, more volunteer providers, including a licensed social worker, and scrub uniforms for our front desk staff employees

Very unexpectedly a gentlemen walked into the clinic with a very large box of brand new uniforms.

The box included 2 sets of scrubs in every size from XXS to 4X. He owned a business that

sold uniforms to medical facilities and was donating these to us!

We also have been praying that a Licensed Social Worker would step forward to volunteer their services to the clinic. The very next day that very thing happened, as well as a Nurse Practitioner wound care specialist, who also joined our staff this month.

As the night went on the clinic received two very generous financial donations. And, most of all, we impacted the lives of 40 patients with love and compassion, and the spirit of Christmas.

OPEN M’s Getting Ahead Class 28 celebrated their graduation and the final Getting Ahead class being held in Summit County on December 12th, 2017.

The class finished up with 6 very dedicated and motivated individuals.

Graduation was held at Golden Corral where family and friends congratulated the participants for all of the hard work over the past 16 weeks.

The graduates are very busy

preparing to begin their new future journey in 2018 by way of full time employment, entrepreneur endeavors and much more. OPEN would like to wish them many blessing as they GET AHEAD.

Although this is the last Getting Ahead class for now, OPEN M will still continue to work with the many individuals who have completed the Getting Ahead program by way of continuing to help these individual build resources to fight poverty.
