Powerware 9390 Parallel Applications
Agenda
Paralleling the Powerware 9390 wayDifferences from other Powerware productsHow it worksPowerware 9390 paralleling requirementsOperation and controlKey selling features
Paralleling the 9390 Way
HotSync ® paralleling technologyUp to eight (8) modules can be paralleled for capacity or redundancyUp to four (4) modules can be paralleled without a central bypassFour-module system can be ordered for full capacity or redundancy (4 x 80 kVA UPMs / 320 kVA)All parallel systems need a tie pointCAN Bus communication“Pull chain” back-up control
9390 Paralleling: Key Differences
Common battery not currently supportedNo central bypass needed for four (4) modules or lessNo intelligence in tie cabinet for four (4) modules or lessTie cabinet is breaker based with options for a main output breaker, central maintenance bypass and kirk key interlocks Tie cabinets with “system” bypass available with “OK to Bypass” indicator lampNo individual lamps for each UPS disconnect Currently no UPS with IDC 480/208 paralleling
How it Works
Patented HotSync TM Paralleling technologyEach unit is a “peer”, no master/slave relationships Modules synchronize with bypass sourceCAN bus sends unit information between systemsThe “pull chain” ensures bypass control even if the CAN bus is lostFirmware code is very close to Powerware 9330 parallel code, except no central bypass requirement for less than four (4) units

System Operation
If total system is redundant (N+1), failure of any one system does not affect critical bus
Protected AC from inverters
System Operation
If system is full capacity, failure of any one system forces all units to static bypass

Individual Unit Functionality

Maximum variance of combined input and output
wire lengths = 10%
This is a requirement to ensure approximately equal current
sharing when in static bypass mode.

Parallel installation could use up to 3 building alarms. If customer requires extra’s order CEO option.
Things to Remember
• Parallel installation can use up to three (3) building alarms; order Communication Expansion option if customer requires extra alarm inputs
• Each unit comes with a Web/SNMP card and EMP, so there are two (2) building inputs available for use with each EM; these alarm inputs only work with Powerware monitoring/management software, (LanSafe, PowerVision)
Preferred software application is new release of PowerVision, which will be released later this year (mid 4th qtr); PowerVisioncan monitor all UPS power modules as a system and coordinate server shutdown

Key Selling FeaturesPatented HotSync ® Paralleling technology
Field-proven through thousands of customer installations
Scalability for future growth capabilityNo need for customer to buy excess capacity today
Redundancy with capability to expand capacityCustomers requiring redundancy can now increase the load by adding more UPS power modules to keep the redundancy (previously only available above 200 kVA or below 40 kVA )
Service support from the best in the industry
