    1. Use of UOP Design Specifications

Each project listed on the first page of the Basic Engineering Design Data, UOP ProjectSpecification 102, will be represented by a book or books of UOP design specifications consisting of

project specifications, drawings, UOP Standard Drawings, and UOP Standard Specifications asdefined in the Engineering Agreement.

The project specifications and drawings define the specific equipment requirements of the projectand refer to the Standard Specifications and Standard Drawings for additional detail requirements. Inthe event of conflicting requirements between project specifications and Standard Specifications orStandard Drawings, the requirements of the project specifications shall govern.

When necessary, revisions of the project specifications will be made by issuing a RevisionTabulation sheet and the revised sheets of the specification.

The full content of each book of UOP design specifications is defined in the Index, ProjectSpecification 101. This index is periodically revised to indicate the latest revision number of eachRevision Tabulation for Sections 100 through 900, the latest revision number of drawings, and therevision number of each UOP Standard Drawing and each UOP Standard Specification.

    2. Standards, Codes and Practices

UOP design specifications are based on industry standards, general codes, and standard engineering

practices used in the United States. The detailed design and construction performed by theContractor(s) shall conform with the latest edition of the applicable sections of the US codes and

practices and with all other applicable governing national, state and local laws or codes, where morestringent. When requested by the Owner, UOP will incorporate other codes or standards, which arereferenced in the project specifications.

    3. Utilization of UOP Design Specifications During Project Implementation

The accompanying project specifications incorporate UOP Standard Specifications and UOPStandard Drawings. Other standard specifications have been considered only if referenced in the

project specifications. The detailed design, procurement, and construction performed by theContractor(s) shall also conform to all other standard specifications required by the Owner. In the

event of conflicting requirements between UOP design specifications and Owner's standardspecifications, the most stringent of each requirement shall govern.

The Contractor is responsible for detailed engineering, using UOP design specifications as the basis.Typically, the Contractors responsibilities include:

    1. Design of utility and off-site systems and/or verification of the adequacy of existing facilities.

    2. Verification that equipment and piping design pressures are adequate for the shutoff pressure ofpurchased pumps, relief valve settings, final plot layout, and piping arrangement.

    3. Verification that the net positive suction head available (NPSHA) provided in the detailed designis adequate for the NPSH requirements (NPSHR) of the purchased pumps.

    4. Verify that suction and discharge pressures of purchased pumps and compressors are adequatefor the final plot layout, piping arrangement, and the pressure drop of purchased equipment.

    5. Adjust, as necessary, or verify that the system hydraulics represented in the UOP ProjectSpecifications are adequate for the final plot layout, piping arrangement, and pressure drop of

    purchased equipment.

    6. Provide thermal expansion relief valves for trapped fluids where necessary due to fluidexpansion caused by process conditions, heat tracing, ambient conditions, etc.

    7. Provide equipment foundation design based on a minimum of full water load in the supportedequipment.

    8. Convert to other units of measurement from those used in the UOP Project Specifications, ifrequired.

    9. Convert to the owner's equipment and instrument numbering systems, if required.

10.Provide utility header valving and instrumentation in accordance with the Owner's instructions.

11.Where relief valves discharge to a closed relief system verify that the relief system has properdrainage, proper liquid knockout facilities, and sufficiently low back pressure to assure specifiedrelief valve capacities.

12.UOP is guided in the area of Noise Level Limitations by USA practices and the OccupationalSafety & Health Administration (OSHA). Verify that the overall plant design and purchasedequipment conform to regulatory or customer defined noise limitations.

    4. Supplier / Manufacturer Selection

In general, the Owner and the Contractor(s) are responsible for Supplier / Manufacturer selection

within the constraints imposed by UOP design specifications. UOP provides guidance to help assurecompliance with UOP design specifications and to help assure that purchased equipment andservices meet certain minimum quality standards. UOP uses the following terms where purchasingguidance is deemed appropriate:

    4.1 Mandatory Supplier/Manufacturer

Supplier/Manufacturer which has consistently provided a product that satisfies UOP's design, performance and functional requirements. The product is critical to the operation of the unitand UOP's performance guarantees. UOP has made a reasonable determination that there is noacceptable alternative Supplier/Manufacturer for the product among Suppliers/Manufacturersknown to UOP. The Owner/Contractor must obtain the product from the specifiedSupplier/Manufacturer, unless approved in writing by UOP. The use of unapproved productsmay jeopardize process guarantees.

    4.2 Recommended Supplier/Manufacturer

Supplier/Manufacturer which has consistently provided a product that satisfies UOP's design, performance and functional requirements. The product typically includes design featureswhich enhance the operation of the units.

Additional attributes used to describe Recommended Suppliers/Manufacturers include but arenot limited to: enhances operation of the process units, demonstrated ability to provide globalservice, supply spare parts, and a proven quality (performance, reliability, etc.) product. TheSupplier/Manufacturer may participate in a technical relationship with UOP.

This list is not exclusive, and the products from an Owner-preferred Supplier/Manufacturerthat can satisfy the design and functional requirements of a UOP design specification will beacceptable. It is the joint responsibility of the Owner/Contractor to determine equivalency.

UOP Refining and Petrochemical Equipment Technology is the recommendedsupplier for the MODULAR CCR SECTION. UOP has supplied over 25 ModularCCR Sections worldwide. The UOP CCR Section has the vast UOP operationsexperience built into each unit.

    4.3 Supplier/Manufacturer or Equal

Supplier/Manufacturer which has provided product that has satisfied UOP's design, performance and functional requirements.

This list is not exclusive, and the products from an Owner-preferred Supplier/Manufacturerthat can satisfy the design and functional requirements of a UOP design specification will beacceptable. It is the joint responsibility of the Owner/Contractor to determine equivalency.

The Owner/Contractor may obtain the product from the specified Supplier/Manufacturer orfrom an equivalent Supplier/Manufacturer.

In all three of the above categories, the Supplier/Manufacturer is fully responsible for theperformance of its products and services.

    5. Engineering Design Information (EDI)

UOP issues an Engineering Design Information (EDI) book to provide background process anddesign basis information to the Owner and the Contractor. The EDI documents are not considered asdesign specifications but they do provide functional design data for the equipment included in theUOP design specifications. The EDI data is informational only and is intended to augment the data

provided in the design specifications. In all situations, design specifications take precedence overinformation in the EDI book.
