Saint Monica Parish • Methuen, MA Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 28, 2015
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ,
At the June meeting of the Collaborative Pastoral Council of the St. Lucy and St. Monica Parishes we learned that Msgr. William Fay will not be replaced. This is difficult news, but not surprising news given that the Archdiocese of Boston has published numerous news articles warning of the coming crisis of lack of new priests.
The workload for the three priests was already heavy, often requiring a visiting priest to help with Mass coverage. We now have two priests that will be doing the work of three; the 180+ funerals alone will fill their calendars. Understanding their workload, as well as the needs of the two parishes, the concern of the Parish Council is keeping Fr. Bill Lohan and Fr. John Cassani healthy and effective spiritual leaders.
With this in mind, the combined Pastoral Councils unanimously voted to support a modified Mass schedule. This schedule will be developed with prayer and input from parishioners over the next few months. We will make every effort to balance coverage for both parishes. While there will be no immediate changes to the schedule, we believe this a prudent action given our new staffing reality. In related news, our collaborating parishes Planning Team—composed of parishioners and staff from St. Monica’s and St. Lucy’s—has completed the Pastoral Plan and will be presenting it to both parishes before the end of June. There will be a parish-wide meeting at St. Monica’s School Hall at 7:00pm on Monday, June 29th and a second parish-wide meeting at St. Lucy’s Church Hall at 7:00pm on Tuesday, June 30th. All parishioners are invited to attend. In the meantime, parishioners may review the Pastoral Plan by going to the collaborative website methuencatholic.org or asking for a copy from the parish office. Following these parish-wide meetings, the plan will be submitted to Cardinal Sean for approval. The focus of the plan is evangelization and making disciples of Jesus. Because the overarching goal of the Pastoral Plan is to grow the church by making disciples, any modification of the Mass schedule will need to support and complement the goals of the Pastoral Plan.
Together in Christ,
Your Collaborative Pastoral Council

Our children are out of school for the summer! It is a time of fun, but also stress for hundreds of families in Methuen. Parents that depend on reduced breakfast and lunch for their children's nutrition are at a loss to supply them with the meals they need to have a happy, healthy summer. Will you please consider participating in our " One can" project. One can or box of food from each family adds up to many.. The baskets are at the back of the Church. For those who generously give week after week we thank you for your kindness to those we serve.
June 28-Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time:
In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering. To date this month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting 25 families, providing 75 bags if food, and $750 in food gift certificates. We also assisted with $400 rent, $403 in emergency shelter and $463 electric bills. The need is also great right now for size 5 and 6 diapers and wipes that we supply to many families. Thank you for your continued support!

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. “Please spiritually adopt an unborn baby.”
Every day over 4,000 babies are killed by
abortion. They have so little protection only the hand of God can end this massacre. Prayer is the best weapon to help them • the most effective. Say this prayer every day for nine months to save a baby’s life!
“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the
unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”
