Today we begin the third week of Easter. The Easter Season will continue through the Solemnity of Pentecost on May 24. I pray that these Easter weeks are days of grace for you and for your loved ones; and that among the blessings you receive will be a greater sense of how much God loves you, and a deeper faith. Jesus Christ came among us that we might have life and have it more abundantly (Jn 10:10). As we celebrate these high holy days of our Catholic faith, I express my thanks to all of you again for the so many ways in which you have cooperated with God’s grace to make our faith communities of St. Lucy and St. Monica such beautiful parishes. I am grateful to those of you who are involved in the many liturgical ministries that make our Sunday and weekday Masses at St. Lucy and St. Monica Parishes the great moments of worship and prayer that they are – and should be: to our altar servers, and to those who care for the beauty of our churches and for our sacred artifacts; to our sacristans and janitors; to our lectors; to the extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion who serve at the altar and in the homes of our elderly and infirm; to our musicians, our cantors and our choirs; to our ushers and greeters; and to our Worship and Spiritual Life Commission. I am especially grateful for the dedicated and wonderful way in which you served us so beautifully this year in the preparation and celebration of Holy Week and the Triduum. I am grateful to our School administrators, teachers, staff and board; to our Faith Formation and Youth Commission; to our Religious Education Coordinators and to those of you engaged in religious education. You all work actively with parents and sponsors in their God-given responsibility of passing on the faith. I am very thankful for the way you help our children and adults to prepare so well to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation. I am
especially grateful for those of you who
worked in our RCIA programs to prepare
our catechumens and those received into
the Church. My gratitude goes as well to
those of you who work with our youth
our young adults.
I am grateful to those of you who give yourselves
tirelessly to seeking out and helping the less fortunate
among us. Special thanks goes to our St. Vincent
DePaul Society and to its donors for the tremendous
assistance you give to the needy among us in Methuen.
I am grateful to the groups within our two parishes
that gather to build friendships, and to work and to
pray in our behalf – to the St. Monica Council of the
Knights of Columbus and to our young Columbian
Squires (Esto Dignos); to the St. Lucy Blessed Virgin
Mary Sodality; to our Friday Adorers; to our many
prayer groups; and to our Evangelization and Outreach
Commission.
I am deeply grateful to our priests – both resident and
those who assist us from other ministries, to our
deacon, and to our two religious sisters. You serve
our parishes and city in so many selfless and effective
ways. I am grateful to the members of the Pastoral
and Finance Councils, to the Property and Personnel
Commissions, to our Safety and Security Commission,
and to our parish staffs and their helpers for their
service and for the great example they continue to be
for me and for us. Your unflagging generosity of
spirit is an abiding confirmation to me of the truth of
St. Paul’s exhortation, “It is more blessed to give than
to receive” (Acts 20:35).
As I give thanks to the Lord for the abundant gifts he
continues to manifest in you, I pray that you and I may
continue to give generously from what we have
received. The gifts we celebrate at Easter – God’s
forgiveness and our reconciliation with God and one
another in Christ Jesus – are gifts that are meant to be
shared freely by those who have received them. May
the grace we have received make us more and more
like that, “for God loves a cheerful giver” (2Cor 9:7).
From Your Pastor Expressing Easter Gratitude
God bless each of you.

“The St. Monica students in Grade 2 put on a beautiful presentation of the Stations of
the Cross during Holy Week. In reverent words and solemn actions, the children por-
trayed the difficult journey of Jesus on his way to Mount Calvary. How joyous to see
their Alleluia finale: Jesus is risen from the dead! Well done, second grade!
May the joy of the Savior's Resurrection bring peace to all our world!”

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. “Please spiritually adopt an unborn baby.”
Every day over 4,000 babies are killed by abortion. They have so little protection only the hand of God can end this massacre. Prayer is the best weapon to help them • the most effective. Say this prayer every day for nine months to save a baby’s life!
“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have
spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

NEW! Tea & Treasure for YOUNG MOMS!
We have been offering Tea & Treasure for women for several years now at St. Monica Parish. It
consists of a light lunch, a short spiritual reading, and then we pray the Holy Rosary together. Up until now, most of the ladies who attend are senior citizens. Recently some moms with young children have expressed an interest in having a group where they can meet other women in their age group. So, we have started offering the luncheons for them. The next luncheons will take place on Friday, May 15th and Friday, June 12th, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the cream colored house directly across the parking lot from St. Monica Church. So far we have 7 people who have signed up. If you are interested in attending, or for further information, please call Kathy Garon at 978-683-1193 ext. 119. Please leave your name and phone number. Please be sure to RSVP so we can plan the amount of food needed.
NOTE: Rosary Instruction Pamphlets will be passed out at the luncheon for anyone who would like one.

Project Rachel is a confidential Catholic outreach ministry offering hope and healing to women and men hurting from past abortions. Trust in the tender embrace of God’s merciful love.
“Evangelization must be the first focus of our Church. Then, the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, which result from living and sharing the Gospel, will transform the culture around us. We have the mission ‘to repair the world,’ what the Jews call Tikkun olam.”
