“Where were you when the World stopped Turning” Alan Jackson
I was sitting in a computer lab atIowa State working on a paper, waiting for
class to start. I received atext from my friend. Hetold me to turn on the TV in the lab. I said, ‘Whatchannel?” he said, “...itdoesn't matter. The World Trade Centers have beenhit by a plane.” We turnedthe TV on just in time tosee the second plane crashinto tower #2.. At thatinstance, I was speechless and shocked. Ihad to go to class so I walked the short
distance over to the other building to class. The Professor told us class was canceledand to go call our families! Every emotion went through my body in about a second.
Every time I attend an In Honorand Remembrance Ceremony, all those
emotions come back. You are part of anorganization that will never let the victims andtheir families be forgotten. Every generation hasan event that they will remember forever, such as
Lincoln’s assassination, D-Day,the Kennedy assassination, Watergate, Vietnam and9/11/01.
There have beenmoments that change a life andmoments that change a lifetimeI asked you: “Where were youon that day in 2001?” Now Iask you, “Where are you going to be on 9/11/12, eleven years
later?” Virginia Chapters have plenty of eventsyou can attend even if your chapter is not carrying
out an In Honor and Remembrance Project. Goout and honor your local heroes and the 2,977individuals and their families by attending aremembrance event.“...Faith, hope and love are some good things hegave us and the greatest is love...” Alan Jackson

Five Star Fraternal Challenge Update! Please be sure to
check myfraternalweb.org for your star rankings. If youdon’t like where you are, then your chapter has time to
change it.
Chapter Annual Planning Sessions should be taking place
very soon. Don’t forget the deadlines for your calendar entry. See the Fraternal 3
month outlook above for important dates.
Let’s start thinking about how each chapter can help their area managers grow their
field force and how we can help Woodmen grow its membership.
Have you found a person, family or community project that might be a fit for Red
Basket? If you have please let us know!

We need your help. As of 9/4/13 at 3:50 PM, the
State of Virginia has 100 events still to be reported. 77 of these events are past due. Reporting
your events within 30 days is required by the Woodmen of the World. This will also help you with
your 5 star fraternal challenge points and extra matching funds. Every chapter has a person that is
assigned to complete the reporting. Please encourage your chapter reporter to go onto My Fraterna
Web and get these completed. If
you need some assistance you
can always ask your field
representative, Sheri Anderson or
myself to help you catch up your
reporting. Also keep in mind that
you will receive an additional 10
points ($10 of additional matching
funds) if you have your reporting
up to date at the end of each
