Bengaluru – Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore onThursday expressed his concern over the ‘rapidsaffronisation’ of the education system in the country andthe slow disappearance of secularism in educationalinstitutions.

Addressing the 17th All India Association for ChristianHigher Education conference here on Thursday, the arch-bishop said India was a multicultural society and theeducation imparted at Christian institutions was for all. Hesaid the institutions were not only imparting education, but also preparing the future generation to become theleaders of the nation.

He said though it had been more than six decades sincethe country attained independence, nearly 30 per cent ofthe population did not have access to basic education. However, he said, South India was fortunate enough tohave a large number of educational institutions, deccanherald reported.

Education getting rapidly ‘saffronised': Archbishop

H G Dr Jacob Mar Irenios, Metropolitan of Kochi, MalankaraOrthodox Church, urged the leaders of the Church tocontribute to improving the quality of education. Rev DrPrasanna Kumar, secretary and bishop-designate, Dio-cese of Central Karnataka of the Church of South India, was also present on the occasion.

Modi is reminded that religiousminorities are not for killing

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, does not like tobe told that he, his government, his political party or thecadres of his old group, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak

Sangh [RSS], have done something wrong.Over the course of three days this week, he was

politely reminded that India’s religious minorities, particu-larly, were uneasy, and any adverse occurrences would seriously impact thepromise of development on which he rode to power last year.

US President Barack Obama made international headlines with his “townhall” speech in Delhi as he concluded a three-day visit to India for its RepublicDay.

The speech offered a rather sharp lesson on what makes a country great— not economic progress or military might, but the unity of its people broughtabout by a shared destiny, the hope of progress among the most marginalizedand a sense of security among its religious minorities.

But it was the Indian president, the 79-year old Pranab Mukherjee, whodelivered a homily that was the strongest caution yet about the threat posed tounity and progress in India from the religious nationalism of the RSS.

Mukherjee did not name the RSS, or its many associates in the SanghParivar family, but his address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day onJanuary 26 — which marks the promulgation of the constitution in 1950 — dweltat some length on the issue.

In his address, Mukherjee said: “In an international environment where somany countries are sinking into the morass of theocratic violence … we havealways reposed our trust in faith-equality where every faith is equal before thelaw and every culture blends into another to create a positive dynamic.

“The violence of the tongue cuts and wounds people's hearts. The Indianconstitution is the holy book of democracy. It is a lodestar for the socio-economic transformation of an India whose civilization has celebrated plural-ism, advocated tolerance and promoted goodwill between diverse communi-ties. These values, however, need to be preserved with utmost care and

vigilance.”Mukherjee touched on a point that

has worried many among those whovoted for Modi, hoping he would bringabout change and end the corruptionand economic coma in which Indiafound itself in the last years of theCongress administration led byManmohan Singh.

This was the increasing ca-cophony of many in the BharatiyaJanata Party, including several minis-ters and members of parliament, whowere supporting a demand that Indiamark itself out as a Hindu Rashtra orNation, and stop appeasing Muslimsand Christians.

Both minority religious groups areseen as enemies of the nation and themajority.

Some among them were quitestridently asking that the constitutionbe scrapped and replaced by a more“nationalistic” one rooted not in West-ern concepts but in India’s Hindu tradi-

election to forcibly convert Dalit andTribal Christians and Muslims to Hin-duism was put on hold a week beforeObama’s state visit.

It was never in doubt that thecampaign, and violence targeting reli-

to produce 10 or more children to main-tain a demographic superiority.

There is controversy now about aseries of media advertisements by thegovernment that has illustrations of theillustrated preamble of the constitutionwithout two key words, “secular” and“socialist”.

These words were not there in thedocument signed on January 26, 1950,but were introduced in an amendmentpassed by parliament in the 1970s.

Much of the social legislationpassed in the closing decades of thelast century, including employment forrural poor, and scholarships for Muslimyouth in particular, were born from thosetwo words.

Talk among those in the highestquarters that the constitution is betteroff without socialism and secularismhas understandably sent shockwavesamong the rural poor, Tribals, Dalits, aswell as Muslims and Christians in gen-

tion.Industrialists, bankers and busi-

nessmen hoping that the new regimewould be able to attract internationalinvestors and partners, especially fromthe US, found its response turning tepid, despite Modi’s much-touted visits toWashington, New York, Beijing andTokyo.

Investors became hesitant not justbecause economic reforms were nottaking place at the speed promised, but also because the country’s humanrights environment had, if anything, sharply deteriorated.

The so-called “Ghar Wapsi”, orhomecoming campaign, launched bythe Sangh Parivar just after the general

gious groups, would resume. And resume it did, the day after

Obama left India.Recent data shows almost 150

recorded cases of violence againstChristians last year, and several in re-cent days. Violence against Muslims isfeared to be several times more.

The hate campaign, meanwhile, has been ramped up with governmentleaks from 2011 census data statingthat the Muslim population has soared.

The official desegregated data ofreligious populations is among the lastto be made public, but nationalists liketo stoke alarm by saying that Muslimsbreed at a rate that would see themovertake the Hindu population withinthis century.

The leaked data does show anincrease in the Muslim population. Eventhough the growth rate slowed from 29percent to 24 percent between 1991and 2001, it is still higher than thenational average of 18 percent for thedecade.

It is not just fringe elements orpolitical mavericks who suggest solu-tions that would be deemed anti-demo-cratic even in military dictatorships —including disenfranchisement of reli-gious groups, or asking Hindu women

Obama’s parting, and cutting, re-marks are evidence that the world iswatching India as it stakes its claim tobe a member of the elite global eco-nomic and strategic clubs.

The 'reconversion' row alongwith controversial remarksmade by various BJP leaders,as well as the extended SanghParivaar, over the last monthhave cast a long shadow overPrime Minister Narendra Modi's'sabka sath, sabka vikas'agenda. What remains unclear, however, is what the PM him-self makes of this derailing ofhis development discourse.

—First Post

As a child growing up in cosmopolitan Mahim, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, now archbishop

of Mumbai, was surrounded by peopleof all faith.

“There were Hindus, Muslims,Sikhs and Christians in ourneighbourhood. We would celebrateeach other’s festivals and none of usfelt any different on account of religion. The beauty of India lies in the richmosaic of cultures, languages and cui-sines that co-exist in one country,”Cardinal Gracias says.

However, he now fears an agendato divide the country along religiouslines and erode its secular fabric, cau-tioning that it will cause great harm.

At a time when BJP MPs likeSadhvi Niranjan Jyoti are asking peopleto vote for ‘children of Ram’ and not‘illegitimate children’, he says it’s ashame the government has shown nosigns of disapproving such acts.

“I wonder if this is a deliberatestrategy of the government. Delega-tions from the Church that have visitedthe prime minister over such mattershave not returned reassured that thingswould get any better,” he says.

The government’s silence on theinvolvement of its MPs in communalactivities, he says, makes him wonderif it is because it supports such ac-tions, reported timesofindia.

While India’s religious right winghas accused Christians of forced con-versions, he says that’s something theRoman Catholic Church would con-demn.

“But when it comes to acts suchas ghar wapsi, I see both force andinducement…A person who wishes toconvert to the Catholic faith must un-dergo a rigorous two-year trainingprogramme before doing so. After theprogramme, we need a letter from apriest endorsing that the person hasunderstood the religion before he/sheis allowed to convert,” he adds.

Cardinal Gracias points to theirony that religious extremists have noproblem using services provided byChristians, such as schools and hos-pitals, while continuing to target thecommunity.

“We are very happy to serve ev-erybody. But those who have ben-efited from our services should haveunderstood our purpose.”

An attempt to fragment Indiaalong religious lines will hurt the coun-try and destroy the fabric of the nation,he warns, adding that the attempt toforce India to fit into the mould of onemonolithic society is absurd.

“I was once at an event with Ger-man chancellor Angela Merkel in Eu-rope. When she spoke of the diversityof the European Union, I told her wehad greater diversity in India,” he re-called.

While concerned over the turn ofevents in the country, Cardinal Graciasremains optimistic and says he is suregood sense will prevail.

He believes that most people inIndia are not communal and will en-sure a course correction if the countryis veering down a path that is not goodfor it.

“I had very good relations withthe previous NDA government and Igot along very well with the then PMAtal Bihari Vaypayee. He was a de-lightful man and very reasonable,” saysCardinal Gracias, who feels the cur-rent government seems more hardlinein its religious views than the earlierNDA government.

“This government has a tremen-dous opportunity to take the countryforward on the development front, hav-ing won the majority in the Lok Sabha. With one party at the Centre, the gov-ernment can be effective and imple-ment projects it wants. But this cannotbe achieved in the face of growingcommunalism. It will only give India abad name and hinder progress,” hesays.

Govt Silence On ‘Ghar Wapsi'Irks Cardinal Oswald Gracias

Obama said.“Your Article 25 says that all people

are equally entitled to freedom of con-science and the right freely to profess, practice and propagate religion.

“In both our countries — in allcountries — upholding this fundamen-tal freedom is the responsibility of gov-ernment, but it's also the responsibility

of every person,” he said.“Every person has the right to

practice their faith how they choose, orto practice no faith at all, and to do sofree of persecution and fear and dis-crimination.”

Unfortunately, many in the Indiancivil rights movement, especially activ-ists on freedom of faith issues, fear theirstruggle will get increasingly grimmer.

Last Prophet ofthe Old Testament

Melvyn Brown in the above article, The Secular Citizen, 02Feb.2015 has failed to men-

tion five important episodes regardingJohn the Baptist:

1) At the Visitation: “The child (John)leaped for joy” (Luke, 1:44).

2) Besides, Melvyn mentioning “mes-senger” in Malachi 3:1, this word isalso mentioned in all the three syn-optic Gospels (Mt. 11:10; Mk. 1:2;Lk. 7:27) by Jesus himself.

3) “Voice of one crying in the wilder-ness” (Mt. 3:3; Mk. 1:3; Lk. 3:4; Isa.40:3).

4) Theophany: It is the visible mani-festation of God to humankind. TheBaptism of our LORD is the onlyoccasion wherein the TRINITY isrevealed – The SPIRIT in the form ofa Dove, and the voice of the FA-THER – “This is My SON, the be-loved with Whom I AM well pleased”(Mt. 3:17; Mk. 1:11; Lk. 3:22). Thesewords were also repeated at theTransfiguration (Mt. 17:5; Mk. 9:7;Lk. 9:35; 2 Pet. 1:17).

5) Divine Mercy: It is the first publicproclamation of the ‘Divine Mercy’through Zachariah’s prophecy andword in the New Testament:a) “shown the ‘mercy’ promisedto our ancestors” (Luke, 1:72).b) “by the tender ‘mercy’ of ourGOD” (Luke,1:78)

Neglected ABEInstitutions of Mumbai

With reference to the article’Let two or ,more wrongschoose’ by Don Aguiar

(Secular Citizen, Jan 26), I must saythat as an ex-Mumbaikar who did hisentire schooling and college educa-tion in Catholic educational institutionsof erstwhile Bombay, I was pained toread about the dwindling standard ofeducation and the poor treatmentmeted out to teachers of our oncemuch-revered and prestigious centresof learning and character formation. While the reasons for this could bemany, the Archdiocesan Board of Edu-cation (ABE) cannot escape blame orresponsibility for its lackadaisical ap-proach to the overall supervision andgovernance of its 100 plus institutionsand the utter negligence and casualapproach to the grievances of the teach-ing staff. It is also not right to apportionblame on his eminence Cardinal

Oswald Gracias who , as advisor to HisHoliness Pope Francis, is required tobe present at various and frequent timesin Rome. We seem to have forgottenthis great honour to our country and tothe Archdiocese of Bombay, to whichCardinal Oswald originally belonged.Incidentally, I too was a lifetime parish-ioner and student of St Michael’s,Mahim, of which I am proud. Secondly, looking at the way our Archdiocese inGoa is run by a single Archbishop, Ifeel that Mumbai is blessed by having5 auxiliary bishops to assist the Arch-bishop. Is it therefore too much to handover charge to one of the bishops torevamp the ABE? I don’t think this is aproblem provided there is a will to actand restore these neglected institu-tions to their former glory and excel-lence.

On Obama’s Cau-tionary Remarks

President Obama’s cautionary re-marks on the dangers of ‘religious di-vide’ in our country comes not a daytoo soon and assumes significance inthe wake of the world-wide growingreligious intolerance and violence, andthe recent killings of the ‘Charlie Hebdo’journalists, which received condemna-tion by over 40 world leaders who un-dertook a solidarity march with the slainjournalists through the streets of Paris. It is also a reminder to the India govt ofits responsibility to uphold the funda-mental rights of freedom of worshipand right to practise and propagate thereligion of one’s choice as enshrinedin our secular Constitution, especiallyat a time when the govt is consideringexpediting the ’Anti-conversion’ billwhich will ban religious conversions inthe country, and some bigoted ele-ments seeking to change our secularConstitution.

God Made No MistakeI totally agree with Prof. Robert

Castellino's letter in the 2nd Februaryissue of TSC. God did not make a'mistake' when he created the mentallychallenged. He has created these spe-cial people to teach us lessons in cheer-fulness, simplicity, love and genuine-ness. God does not judge us by thenarrow definition of our capabilities andwhat we achieve in life. He values thementally challenged more than He doeswilly politicians and super achievers.

They are gifted in special ways.Young Savio Dagama, for instance, is agifted musician able to play the guitarby placing it behind his back where hecannot see the strings! The youngadults of Atmavishwas, Verna, Goa (aNGO for the differently abled) producebeautiful handicrafts such as mats, tow-els, cards, writing pads, paintings, beadwork, necklaces and bags.

The mentally challenged faceenough of prejudice, sometimes fromtheir own families, without others add-ing to this prejudice.

Women as Cardinals?

Answered by Legionary of Christ FatherEdward McNamara, professor of liturgyand dean of theology at the ReginaApostolorum university.

Q: I understand that technically anyone, even a woman, can be appointed acardinal because a cardinal does nothave to be a bishop or priest. Kindlyenlighten.

Secondly, the Holy Father is alsothe bishop of Rome. In Mumbai thecardinal is also called the "archbishop"and not bishop of Bombay. Why? R C

A: I think we need to distinguish differentquestions. First, may a woman be ap-pointed cardinal? Second, could womenbe involved in a papal election? Finally, what is the distinction between archdio-cese and diocese? In response to the first question I wouldsay that the answer is no.

It is true that the cardinalate is adignity and not a sacred order. It is alsotrue, however, that from the very begin-ning of the office the cardinals havebeen associated with the clerical state.

The cardinals are divided into threeorders -- bishops, priests and deacons -- even though almost all of them areactually bishops. This is because from arelatively early period the election of thebishop of Rome was restricted to thebishops of the dioceses surrounding theDiocese of Rome: Albano, Sabina-Poggio Mirteto, Porto Santa Ruffina,Velletri-Segni, Frascati, Palestrina andOstia, which is no longer a functioningdiocese and is usually held by the deanof the College of Cardinals.

To these were added the mostimportant priests of the Rome Dioceseand the deacons who at that time wererelatively few in number and often hadthe responsibility for its administration. This distribution is still reflected in thedistribution of cardinals, of which thereare six cardinal bishops, 160 cardinalpriests and 39 cardinal deacons.

As time went on the title was widelygranted to bishops of other diocesesand those who worked within the Ro-man Curia. However, the connectionwith the clergy of Rome was alwaysmaintained by granting each cardinal atitular church of which he is, so to speak, honorary parish priest or deacon.

It is true that the title was grantedoccasionally to those who were not or-dained, but not, strictly speaking, tonon-clerics. At that time a man canoni-cally entered the clerical state (and theobligation of celibacy) by receiving firsttonsure, and this was a minimum re-quirement for being named cardinal.Unfortunately, some of these behavedmore like princes than as clerics andhad little intention of proceeding towardordination.

Others, however, were notable.Pius VII's secretary of state CardinalErcole Consalvi (1757-1824) never pro-gressed further than deacon and wasalready a cardinal a year when the Popeordained him to this office. It is said thaton his way to exile Napoleon Bonaparteremarked that Cardinal Consalvi, whowas not a priest, was more of a priestthan many who were. From the time of Pope St. John XXIII, allcardinals should be bishops, but thePope may and often does grant an ex-emption to this requirement if requestedby the person being named cardinal. Ingeneral this has only been granted tothose priests nominated after they hadpassed their 80th year. Therefore, since the cardinalate is his-torically tied to the clerical state I wouldsay that this is an impediment to womenbeing named cardinal.

This does not mean that womenhad no role whatsoever. Women wereprobably involved in some ways in theelection of the bishop in ancient timeswhen this election was done by theassembled faithful. This system pro-duced the occasional St. Ambrose. Butit could also provoke deep divisions andwas more subject to manipulation by

KANPUR (27th Jan): About a week agosome Christian pastors under the ban-ner of the Kanpur Pastors' Associaton(KPA) expressed their displeasure oversome distortions of Christianity pub-lished in some school textbooks. Theimpression given was that some edu-cational board had approved thesebooks. They were the Class 6 and 8workbooks of Singdha, published byFriends Publicaitons, Agra. Thispublisher's books are commonly usedin many Christian Schools, but they arenot officially approved by any Board.

One of the offending texts referredto the nativity of Jesus as a story, andsaid that at the time of his birth anevergreen fir tree appeared in the sky, which is why Christians put up Christ-mas trees! Another text stated that insome circles it was believed that Jesushad come to India, and had then im-bibed his teachings on forgiveness andcompassion from ancient Hindu andBuddhist texts.

To protest against the same theKPA, that consists of small indepen-dent churches, threatened to close allChristian schools in the city, and orga-nize a protest march and even go tocourt, if the offending books were notwithdrawn, and an apology tendered.

Sensing things going out of hand,Sri K.V. Vincent, principal of the localHuddard School, and National Secre-tary of the Association for Schools ofthe Indian School Certificate, called thepublisher, Sri Vineet Sahni, to Kanpur.

He also invited chhotebhai, Presidentof the Kanpur Catholci Association, andformer National President of the AllIndia Catholci Union, to study the of-fending texts.

Sri Sahni stated that the booksand had not yet been published. Onlysample copies were sent to someschools, for feedback. He claimed thathe had consulted some authoritativaesources regarding these texts. How-ever, now that he has been told thatthey were incorrect he was immedi-ately withdrawing the same. He sub-mitted a written unconditional apologycum assurance to Sri Vincent andchhotebhai. Accordingly the duo is-sued a press statement appealing tothe pastors and the Christians of Kanpurto not stoke the fire any further, and tolay the matter to rest.

Thank you Cardinal, the shepherd leads his flock from thefront, and that is what we Catho-

Well ,I do appreciate your stand, andplease be assured we the catholicand christian community at The Arch-diocese of Bombay, and India arestanding besides you.

Yes I do recall, as a child when wewere in school, we never ever sepa-rated or even thought of our dearfriends as from a different commu-nity, we all lived as one big happyfamily, even today, my ole nonchristian friends wish me at Easterand Christmas and the reciprocalwishes are shared with them at theirfestive seasons.

It takes a few misguided elements tocause misunderstanding among thepeoples for their own personal, andor political gains and we the peoplemust bring a stop to this.

Take a survey of some leading politi-cal and or business tycoons, evenmany of our political sisters and broth-ers . Many of them have been edu-cated in our Catholic/christianschools and they and we are proud ofthe same.

Thank you once again for your standon this issue and I for one look for-ward to you stand and your leadingfrom the front on other many pendingissues within our community whichwe have been discussion for a veryvery long time.

Disabilities Rights Association ofGoa [DRAG] was inaugurating a filmfestival on disability issues. A mediareport states that, at this function, theGoa C.M. ,Laxmikant Parsekar, saidthat people are born with disabilitiesbecause of a “mistake” and “negli-gence” of God. NGOs are rectifying themistake committed by God. NGO workis more than that of God.

I am wary of quoting media re-ports as invariably, when they becomecontroversial, the originator comes outand says he was misquoted, misun-derstood, misinterpreted. However, Iam using it as it gives me a subject towrite about. Though the C.M. is fromGoa he has obviously not been to aCatholic school where you are taughtthat God is perfect and cannot makemistakes. How then does misery comeinto this world? Is an abortion the an-swer to a potential disability? There aretwo driving forces that determine ourchoices. Fear of the consequences ofliving with a disability. Or Love whichsees it as a challenge, something whichcan be changed, corrected, coped with

The Universe is made up of en-ergy which cannot be destroyed. It canchange its form —— light to heat, tosound and even to matter, substanceand living things. God is a Creator nota manufacturer creating finished prod-ucts. Once He set the ball in motionwith the Big Bang, 14 billion years ago,He allowed the universe to evolve andchange. The evolutionary process in-volves interactions. As energies, ideasand substances interact they evolveinto new forms.God has put enoughenergy in the tiniest of atoms, whichcan light up a whole city. Each one of ushas trillions of such atoms. Change isthe one constant in the Universe. New

Life ensures death and decay for whichwe all must be prepared. Even a newsystem, a new product has its LifeCycle.

As Christians we believe that dis-abilities from birth are not punishmentfor the sins of the forefathers. No doubtnot following the Laws of Nature canresult in some disabilities which can bepassed down. God could have made aperfect world, where there is no suffer-ing. He didn’t. Instead He promisedthat we could experience perfect hap-piness in the next life if we choose to doHis Will in this life. Life has the ability tochoose what change to make. Unfortu-nately the choice can be for evil.

Now here is the difficult part tounderstand. When we are tempted andsin, God shows restraint. — He allowsus to sin. He allows wars, disease, disaster, He allows us to despoil theplanet. He allows us to defy God. Godmade it easy to deny His existence. Hedoesn’t destroy the atheist.

In the face of evil we pray to Godbut often it appears that He has notheard our cry. We expect God to obeyour commands, to work miracles, toshow His authority. He allows us tochoose false gods if we so wish.

Those in authority or who want tobe in authoritypromise us that if we givethem control over the resources thatbelong to all —labor, land, water, airforests, minerals, vegetation, technol-ogy — they can give us the Good Life. They can do for us what God is notdoing — We must only believe inthem. We have to worship the falsegods of money and authority. With theflick of a finger God could throw them

from their thrones. But He doesn’t. Hewants us to make the choice. After allhow long will they be in power — 4, 40,400 years? God has promised us Eter-nal Happiness

Jesus taught us the perfect prayer,“The Our Father”. If God is our father,He knows what we need. He will notdesert us, He will not try us beyond ourabilities. He has also given us intelli-gence to find the solutions to the prob-lems facing us. As one philosopher hassaid “If there is a God, and there is aproblem, there must be a solution”

Disabilities are not only challengesfor the individual but for humanity toshow compassion, to find solutions, tofind ways to cope with the disabilities.God depends on humans to bring theKingdom of God on earth. In a wayNGOs are the Hands of God Co-opera-tion, working together ,living in loveand harmony, tackling problems to-gether will enable us to see the King-dom of God on Earth.

Being a compulsive writer I haveto make up scenarios as I am notassociated with the media andhence don’t have access to truestories. This story about an issuein a co-operative society is purelyfictional and hence, any resem-blance to real life is purely coinci-dental.

The Mayfair Society bought land tobuild their Co-operative on. Unfortu-nately this land had pockets whichhad been leased out, which had tocome to the society once the leaseexpired. However, as happens withall leases and tenancies, thosestaying on these premises refused tovacate when their lease was up. Onearea was occupied by Dr. Naushad –Hence, I shall call it the NaushadCase, which is now 30 years old, 30years and more is quite normal inland and property matters. Ashappens in all co-operative societiesthere are some members, who askawkward questions at A.G.Ms. — Iwas told that is what A.G.Ms. arefor. One question which was asked atevery AGM for the 30 years duringwhich the society was struggling toget the place was the status of thecase. The standard reply for 30 years

was that it was “status quo”

One committee tried to settle thematter out of court. They called anA.G.M. and decided to give aboutone third of the land to Naushadprovided he surrendered the rest. The wily Doctor in the actual negotia-tions and demarcation managed toget more than what was decided atthe A.G.M. In any case the societygot some free land which they couldsell. Knowledgeable members gotinto the act — The land has to bekept vacant as per the CorporationRules, In any case where is the proofthat the land belongs to us? Thepurchase deed provingownershipwas subsequently located.Has thelease with the doctor been can-celled? Where is the surrender deed?We must be very careful and check

out everything very carefully — Youknow how tricky these deals canbe. Then there were commercialobjections. Why sell the land now.Land prices are rising. The corpora-tion has plans to increase the F.S.I.from 1 to 6. It is on the main highway, etc. etc.

Now Naushad had a daughter and ason. So he wrote to the society thatthe agreement with him should beexecuted with his son. In the mean-time the shrewd doctor made a willmaking the daughter the inheritor tothe property. Members jumped intheir chairs when they heard this. How could he? The will is invalid. TheDoctor is in unsound mind and on hisdeath bed.

Now some members of the societyfavored the daughter, while someothers were on the side of the son. Those who favored the daughterleased her a flat in the society, whichwas already leased to someone else, who had in the meantime sold it to afourth party. Now it became a legalmatter being fought in four differentcourts as our legal system is verycomplicated — Sister againstbrother, buyer versus seller, originalallottee with the society and thesociety with everyone else.

In the meantime the son produced aprobated will wherein he was de-clared the rightful heir. On which beddid the father write this will since hewas already on his death bed whenthe will in favor of his daughter wassigned?

Like the Fox Crime movies I leave ithere for the reader to decide whofinally got the property.

As a sign of “synodality” with localChurches, Pope Francis has decidedthat new metropolitan archbishopswill officially be imposed with the pal-lium in their home diocese, ratherthan at the Vatican.

“The meaning of this change isto put more emphasis on the relation-ship of the metropolitan archbishops— the newly nominated — with theirlocal Church,” Monsignor GuidoMarini, Papal Master of Ceremonies, told Vatican Radio on Thursday.

By having the official impositionceremony in the archbishop’s homediocese, more faithful and bishops indioceses under the archbishop’s ju-risdiction will be able to attend theevent, “which is so meaningful tothem,” he said.

The pallium is a white wool vest-ment, adorned with six black silkcrosses. Dating back to at least thefifth century, the wearing of the pal-lium by the Pope and metropolitanarchbishops symbolizes authority aswell as unity with the Holy See.

Traditionally the pope bestowsthe stole to the new archbishops June29 each year, which is the Solemnityof Saints Peter and Paul. The rite is asign of communion with the See ofPeter. It also serves as a symbol of themetropolitan archbishop’s jurisdictionin his own diocese as well as the otherparticular dioceses within his ecclesi-astical province.

The title of “metropolitan bishop”

refers to the diocesan bishop or archbishop of a metropolis, namely, the primary city of an ecclesiastical province orregional capital.

Monsignor Marini said moving the official ceremonyof imposition to the local level doesn’t take anything away, but rather “keeps the whole meaning of the June 29celebration, which underscores the relationship of com-munion and also of hierarchal communion between theHoly Father and the new archbishops.”

At the same time, he noted, “this adds — with asignificant gesture — this bond with the local Church.”

In a January 12 letter to apostolic nuncios in countrieswhere a new metropolitan archbishop is set to receive thetraditional pallium this year, Monsignor Marini said that thedecision “will greatly favor the participation of the localChurch in an important moment of its life and history”.

He also said that Pope Francis believes this newcustom will advance “that journey of synodality in theCatholic Church which, from the beginning of his pontifi-cate, he has constantly emphasized as particularly urgentand precious at this time in the history of the Church”.

Pope Francis made the decision regarding the changein custom “after a long reflection and upon receiving advicewhich he had requested,” Marini noted in his letter.

The pope, he explained, will bless the palliums duringthe June 29 Mass on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul in theVatican as usual, but they will placed on the shoulders ofnew metropolitan archbishop “in his own diocese, by hisrepresentative, the Apostolic Nuncio”.

Each of the new metropolitan archbishops are invitedto concelebrate the June 29 Mass and blessing of thepalliums in the Vatican, where they will then receive thestole “in a private manner, from the hands of the HolyFather”.

Afterward, Monsignor Marini said that it will be up tothe nuncios to decide on a day and time to “publicly and

officially” invest the archbishop with the pallium “by man-date of the Holy Father”.

Other bishops under the jurisdiction of the newmetropolitan archbishops are expected to attend theceremony for their new shepherd.

The imposition ceremony is “enriched” by this newaspect of community at the local level, Monsignor Marinitold Vatican Radio, saying that the dynamic of communiongenerated by the change is “very beautiful”.

political powers. The system was eventually abandoned. In some periods in which the power of the state had a

strong hand in naming bishops, some queens, such asIsabella of Castile (1451-1504), had no small role in choosingthe episcopate even though the appointment fell ultimatelyupon the pope.

The election of the pope by the College of Cardinals isnot of divine right; it has had relatively exclusive rights to papalelections since 1059. However, it is ultimately rooted in veryancient traditions of communion among neighboring churchesthat has gradually been adapted over time to reflect thepresent situation of the universal Church. However, hypothetically speaking, under a completely newsystem of electing a pope, it is possible that women could alsobe involved.

Finally, it is not quite correct to say that the pope is alsobishop of Rome. It is more correct to say that the bishop ofRome is, by that very fact, the pope. There could not be a pope

who is not bishop of Rome, although there have been situa-tions when he was not resident in the city. This unique statusof the Diocese of Rome has meant that it is not formally anarchdiocese.

Without going into too much detail, let me say that anarchdiocese is usually the most important and oldest diocesein an ecclesiastical province in which the other dioceses havebeen created from territory taken from the original diocese. The archbishop has certain duties rights and responsibilitiestoward the other dioceses of the province, although he doesnot have any real authority over them.

Advice from a CA:

In ordinary course we keep issuingand submitting our KYC documents(identity and residentialproofs..such as PAN card, electric-ity bill etc.) to various people. Forhousing or car or other loans, bankaccounts,or even for buying newsim card we submit these docu-ments. At almost all these placesthey ask for self certification on thesedocuments. We immediately signthose documents and hand over.Just imagine your self certified cop-ies are freely available in the handsof such persons & those documentscan be used by him for EVERY-THING!

Its really serious and its been seenthat in most of the terrorist activities,KYC documents are sourced fromthe SIM card sellers.

Hence, inculcate a habit of writingthe date and purpose for which youare submitting the self certified KYCDocuments so that those docu-ments cannot be used again.

6. Episcopalian: The Episcopal Churchtraces its origins to the Church of En-gland in the American colonies. It is the14th largest denomination in the UnitedStates with almost two million mem-bers. The church split from Anglicanismas clergy of the Church of England aremade to swear allegiance to the Britishmonarch. Aside from the United States,it has dioceses in Latin America, theCaribbean, Europe and Taiwan. Itsmembers are considered to have at-tained the most wealth among all reli-gious believers in the United States.

5. The Church of England: In a way,the Church of England is also a form ofProtestantism. It was only formed be-cause of the desire of the King of En-gland, Henry VIII, to get a divorce fromCatherine of Aragon. It was somethingthat the Catholic Church would not givehim. Also known as Anglicanism, itused to be the biggest landowner inGreat Britain. It sold off most of the landto build up an investment portfolio of$6.7 billion that earns more than $255million each year. It also gets morethan $320 million in donations and $400million through its events and services.

4. The Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter Day Saints: The Church of JesusChrist of Latter Day Saints is consid-ered to be one of the fastest-growingand richest religions in the world. Itsmembers are called Mormons and canbe found everywhere, from Scandinaviato Japan. At the turn of the 21st century,Mormon assets were already beingestimated to be at over $30 billion. Italso has an annual revenue of $6 bil-lion, with nearly 90 percent of theamount coming from member contri-butions called tithing, in which mem-bers are required to give 10 percent oftheir entire income.

3. Judaism: Those practicing Judaismare said to have accumulated the mostwealth among all believers in religions

in the United States. This is not stereo-type profiling, as Jews are known to beadept in the world of business. It actu-ally came from a sociological researchdone in the country. Though Judaismis monotheist, it is not homogenous asit does have a lot of different views. Thelargest streams and movements areRabbinic Judaism, Orthodox Judaism,Conservative Judaism and Reform Ju-daism. Aside from its homeland in Is-rael, its members also have enougheconomic clout in the United States toform a powerful lobby that can influ-ence and sway the decisions of politi-cal leaders.

2. Islam: Islam is a monotheistic reli-gion that is the second largest and oneof the fastest growing in the world. While Muslims are found all over theworld, most of them live in sub-Sa-haran Africa, Indonesia, South Asia andthe Middle East. As a result, Muslimsactually have control of the abundantoil found in the Middle East. Some ofthe richest countries in the world followstrict Islamic laws. Estimates in 2012put the assets of the Islamic financialindustry alone to be at nearly $1.6trillion.1. Roman Catholic Church: Catholicpriests are expected to make a vow ofpoverty, so it is ironic that the church isactually the richest religion in the world. The Catholic Church owns some of thegreatest art works ever made. It alsohas vast gold deposits and billions ofdollars in assets. It also earns a signifi-cant amount of income from the tour-ism sector as the Vatican is consideredan independent city-state. It also hasmore than a billion members aroundthe world.

Remember the fact that goodtable manners can help yourkids come across as polite

and mature people after they growup. They will be respected and nothated anywhere. In fact, you mustensure that table manners for kidsbecomes a part of their upbringing.Only then, they will ensure that theyeat well. Ways to teach table man-ners for kids ;

In starting stages...It is tough to teach table manners fortoddlers. If the age of your kid is below2 years, you can simply sit at the tablefor a few minutes as if to give your kida clue about what you do while eatingfood. Ensure that you take your kid tothe dining table for every meal. Also, teach your kid about using a napkin towipe his face.

Forks and spoonsAt the age of 2 years, kids can alsolearn about using a spoon to eat food. You just need to be patient enough toteach about forks, spoons and napkinstoo.

Clean eatingOnce your kid is around 4 years, youwill observe him or her eating foodwithout much help. This is the timewhen kids learn how to eat withoutthrowing the food everywhere on thetable.

Closed mouthTeach your kid how to close mouthwhile chewing. A closed mouth canhide the ugly sight of food being chewedby teeth. This is an aspect of propertable manners.

Laughing loudlyMost of the kids must be taught thattalking or laughing while eating is not agood habit. Gradually, your kid willlearn to eat silently.

Using cutleryIf using a spoon or a fork gets difficult, you can encourage your kid to find hisown comfort zone while eating.

Drinking habitsWhen it comes to drinking beverages, you can teach your children how todrink without smearing the contentsaround the mouth. When it comes towiping the mouth, remind your kid thata napkin must be used instead ofclothes that are worn.

Other aspectsApart from all these things, you canalso teach other things like cleaningthe table after the meal and giving

If children are not taught about table manners, they will starteating clumsily poring liquids all over the place and solids on thetable. The mere sight may be repulsive and your kids might getdisorganised. Also, in social situations, they will embarrassyou. If you spend some time and pay attention, teaching tablemanners for kids is not so difficult.

Table Manners For Kids

compliments to the person who cookedthe meal. This helps your kid do well insocial situations. This is how propertable manners can be taught to yourchildren.

To ensure good manners, get yourolder kids to start acting like grown-upsat the table by having them place theirnapkins on their laps, encouraging themto use their cutlery properly, and byteaching them not to dig in beforeeveryone has been served. The otherthing kids this age have in common iscomplaining about the meal they’reserved. We suggest parents say okayand give them a set of rules. Eitherthey'll try it once and decide mom'sfood tastes great or they end up lovingto cook and clean.

Like any other muscle in thebody, the heart requires preventive care. So, as February

is known to be the month of 'HeartAwareness', let's talk about keepingour heart healthy through diet.

Heart disease is the biggest killer ofwomen and men. But, it's also a pre-ventable disease in many cases. WithFebruary designated as 'Heart Month',know the follds for reducing your risk ofcardiovascular trouble.

AvocadosAvocados are loaded with heart-healthyfats that allow for the absorption ofcarotenoids. They have the powerfulability to lower bad cholesterol levelsproviding 3 grams of monounsaturatedfat and 0.5 polyunsaturated grams fatper 1-oz. serving. Avocados remain asthe only fruit that containsmonounsaturated fat which aids in low-ering LDL levels while raising HDL cho-lesterol levels. Avocados are both so-dium and cholesterol free making thema great addition to any heart healthydiet.

BerriesStrawberries, blueberries, and rasp-berries are wonderful for vascularhealth. They are loaded with anti-inflammatories that reduce both heartdisease and cancer risks.

BroccoliIt has great levels of vitamin C, as wellas dietary fiber and contains many nu-trients with strong anti-cancer proper-ties. It is rich in lutein and beta-caro-tene. Broccoli also contains a com-pound sulforaphane that has beenknown to increases enzymes to protectheart blood vessels while reducingmolecules that damage them.

FishFatty fish such as salmon, halibut, andTuna are great additions to a heart

healthy diet. These fatty fish have highlevels of omega-3 fatty acids which areknown to reduce blood pressure andthe risk of developing blood clots.

FlaxseedIt is another great heart healthy food asit has the ability to improve cardiovas-cular health. It contains both solubleand insoluble fiber and healthy lignans, which are rich in antioxidants. Numer-ous studies have shown flaxseed re-ducing risk of heart stroke.

Lentils and PulsesBlack beans, kidney beans, lentils andchickpeas are all loaded with solublefiber, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acidswhich help in lowering both blood pres-sure, cholesterol, as well as lose weight.

NutsWalnuts are full of omega-3 fatty acidsand, along with almonds and macad-amia nuts, are loaded with mono- andpolyunsaturated fat. Plus, nuts increasefiber in the diet. And like olive oil, theyare a great source of healthy fat.

OatmealStart your day with a steaming bowl ofoats, which are full of omega-3 fattyacids, folate, and potassium. This fi-

ber-rich superfood can lower levels ofLDL (or bad) cholesterol and help keeparteries clear. Opt for coarse or steel-cut oats over instant varieties—whichcontain more fiber—and top your bowloff with a banana for another 4 grams offiber.

SpinachIt is great for cardiovascular heath aswell as cancer prevention and eyehealth. It contains super levels of beta-carotene, and vitamin C, which worktogether preventing oxidized choles-terol build up in the blood vessel walls. The potassium and magnesium in spin-ach also make significant contributionsto heart health and both work by lower-ing blood pressure and the risk of car-diovascular disease.

Malad (W)

Most of us have experienced something happening that makes us

feel stuck, as if there’s no wayout. Our world seems to spiraltighter and tighter. As a result, wefeel small, restricted, with limitedoptions available – and we can’tsee a way out. We feel pressuredto find an answer, but we’re onlyable to generate ideas that arelimited and weak.

Our tendency is to try to havemore control, and usually we thinkit is to do more, within the small, tight hole we have dug ourselvesinto.

When this happens, the best thingto do in that state is to release TheWhole Thing and start from zero.Hear me out, there is power inzero.

Returning to InfinitePossibilities

The first step is to stop all attempts tocontrol the situation. As challenging asit may be, making the decision to sur-render it all, even for a brief moment, can give you much more leeway andbring in more resources than you canimagine.

Once you surrender, it is important toground yourself in this new space byacknowledging that you are now in astate of not-knowing. Acknowledge thatyou don’t know anything about what’sgoing to take place from hereon andyou are trusting in an invisible power totake care of it. This space, which I call“the space of infinite possibilities”, iswhere all things are equal. Every sce-nario and option, imaginable or un-

imaginable, is possible to create andmanifest.

Connecting to a DeeperTruth

From the space of infinite possibilities, ask yourself, “Can I do/achieve this?”This, referring to the outcome you want.

Inquire gently within.

Again, you may feel a contraction inyour body as a response. It stems fromyour mind labelling the circumstanceas unchangeable, that it’s dire andyou’re likely to suffer out of it. In otherwords, your mind does not believe thatyou can solve this problem.

Now, there’s a part of you that is sepa-rate from the mind. You cannot accessthis part of you when your mind is verybusy. This is the part that is beyondmind and its judgements, labelling anddefensiveness. It is this part of you thatyou’re inquiring of.

As you ask yourself the question whilestaying calm, you may feel a sort of‘parting of curtains’ as you movethrough pockets of resistance beforegetting to a deeper place of truth: whereyou are connected to the Real You.This is the expanded version of you; heor she is way more capable, resource-ful and has a higher perspective ofwhat you’re dealing with.

Allow yourself to connect to your be-lievability in the possibility of achievingthe outcome you want. Let the sense ofbelievability flow to your mind, infusingyour mind with a new sense of possibil-ity.

Opening Up to UnlimitedResources

Next, ask yourself, “How can I do/achieve this?” Again, inquire gently, with curiosity. Allow your mind to gofreely to unexplored places, withoutcensoring. Cast your net out in theopen, into the vast unknown where out-of-the-box ideas are found. Be open toany ideas, no matter how unpracticalyou may judge them to be. One ofthese ideas may be just the steppingstone to a perfect solution.Sometimes, a solution may not be ap-parent immediately. It may take sometime for your mind to connect the dots. Thus, the more dots you reveal, even ifthey are useless on their own, the fasterthe connecting can happen. And soon, you are on your way out.

When You Can't Find The Answer
