• Dutch Protestants:Worried about the conflict between the Protestant and

Catholic Religions.

• Toleration Act:Brought freedom so the country could be involved indifferent religions such as quakers

policy of national debt.- King William the 3rd introduced innovations in the

management of national finances, such as ledger book.-Management enables Britain become a super empire

-When King Charles the 1st fell out of favor for the people of England in the middle of the plantation

Domestic Problems

• In 1685, Mary's uncle Charles II died and her father became king.• His pro-Catholic policies provoked a constitutional crisis• Mary died of smallpox on 28 December 1694 leaving William to rule

alone.• The 1701 Act of Settlement was designed to secure the Protestant

succession to the throne by nominating Princess Sophia who wasdescended from James I, and her heirs as successors to the Britishthrone.

• British forces - personally led by William - battled to protect theNetherlands against the French in Flanders.

• Once king of the three realms, William used them to continue hiscrusade against Louis. In the spring of 1689, he took Britain andIreland into a broad European confederacy against France.
