During the opening sessionof The Global Leadership Summit that day

Bill Hybels exhorted pastors andleaders of all kinds to lead with

courage.

During his message, Hybels frequentlyreferred to God's promise to Joshua foundin Joshua 1:9, which says, "Be strong

afraid; do not be discouraged, forthe LORD your God will be with

you wherever you go."

Hybels spoke about four specific areas inwhich leaders must have courage, starting

with the courage to act on a vision Godhas given them. He spoke about how, inthe midst of an economic recession, hischurch moved forward with the vision to

build a Care Center , a facility whereWillow Creek could provide those in need

with food, clothing, housing andtransportation help, medical services and

much more.

"Every significant vision that God births inyou is going to put your courage to the

test you can count on this," said Hybels.

After the Care Center was up and running,a woman with several children told Hybels

the center was her family's "only hope,"which caused him to think about how

close he came to "killing" that visionbefore he even shared it with anyone else.

Visions are "holy commodities,"

he said, and many leaderssecretly abort the vision God has

given to them because itrequires risk.

"So, in my view, when we look at a

violent and suffering world, and we allwatch the news every night, I thinkwe have a decision to make on where

to lay the blame," said Hybels.

"Should we lay the blame at the feet of acompassionate God, who has been

sending life-enhancing visions to millionsof leaders all over the world?

Or should we lay the blame at the feet of alarge number of gutless, cowardly leaderswho aborted the misery alleviating visions

that God could have blessed wildly had

there been the leadership courage to givethem birth?"

He encouraged leaders to be

honest about the reality theirorganization is facing, whetherthey're in an upturn , a downturnor if they're just holding on to thestatus quo .

It takes courage to face such realities, he

says, but a leader must face them in orderto lead appropriately.

Hybels also encouraged leaders to findthe courage to build "a fantastic culture" intheir organizations.

"Staff cultures will only ever be as healthyas the CEO or senior pastor wants

it to be," he said.Leaders must offer "brave apologies" for

their mistakes and misdeeds, andunderstand that there are some people

who will help build the organization'sculture and others who will

work to tear it down.

"We are no longer going to pay people tobruise and bust our culture," said Hybels.He later said it can be hard for leaders tosay goodbye to colleagues they haveworked with for a while, though sometimesit is necessary for the health of anorganization.

this Book of The Revelation be out ofmind. Ponder and meditate on it day and

night, making sure you practiceeverything written in it.

Conclusion:Israel failed to keep God s Word duringthe time of the judges, as well as manyeras since, and they experienced negative

consequences as God disciplined them.

But when they were faithful to His Word,God fully supported them with Hisstrength.
