Final Announcement
It gives me the greatest pleasure to welcome you to the 29th Annual Scientific Congress of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology which will be held on 9 – 11 July 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic has been posing a huge challenge for us to organize any large-scale scientific and educational program since the year 2020. Nevertheless, a 90-year-old lady receiving the 1st COVID-19 vaccine in a mass vaccination program in United Kingdom on December 8 2020 heralded the fight-back against the virus. This year, we will continue to make great strides in promoting education for cardiovascular professionals which has always been the primary mission of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology.
Our Annual Scientific Congress has established herself as the iconic and flagship educational program for cardiovascular professionals from different disciplines in Hong Kong. The first-ever virtual Annual Scientific Congress with a rich scientific program was successfully held and well received last year and we were greatly encouraged by the record-high number of 2,000 registrants and 1,500 attendees. This year, we are going to put together again an all-round program on cardiovascular medicine. With the better control of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong, we are glad to present to you a hybrid Annual Scientific Congress. While virtual participation continues to be enabled, physical attendance of the meeting with strict observation of social distancing and infection control is allowed. The program will retain the well-received structure with various theme-based symposia, joint sessions with international cardiac societies, Hong Kong Heart Foundation Lecture, abstract and case presentations, poster presentations, cardiology course for family physicians and general practitioners, paediatric cardiology program and allied health cardiovascular symposium. We have worked in close collaboration with American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology, Korean Society of Cardiology and British Cardio-Oncology Society in producing 4 high-quality joint sessions with top-notch speakers. In addition, we are excited to present a new learning mode named Cardiovascular Therapeutics Workshop characterized by small-group, interactive and case-based teaching. Furthermore, 2 new Chapters, namely the Exercise and Sports Cardiology Chapter and Adult Congenital Heart Diseases Chapter will be formed under the Hong Kong College of Cardiology and inaugurated during the Annual Scientific Congress. It is therefore a timely collaboration to organize this year, a joint symposium with the Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science.
Lastly, I strongly believe all participants would have an extremely fruitful and enjoyable learning experience during this Congress!
