    Prerequisites

Make sure your system meets the following requirements.

Minimum Tec hnical Req uirem ents

Customers must conform to the supported platforms for the release as detailed in the JDEdwards EnterpriseOne Minimum Technical Requirements. In addition, JD EdwardsEnterpriseOne may integrate, interface, or work in conjunction with other Oracleproducts. Refer to the following link for cross-reference material in the ProgramDocumentation for Program prerequisites and version cross-reference documents toassure compatibility of various Oracle products.

    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/contracts/index.html

Access the current Minimum Technical Requirements (MTR) for the JD EdwardsEnterpriseOne 9.00 client from Metalink3:

    https://metalink3.oracle.com/od/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=705409.1 .

    Additional Co nsiderations

    1. Be sure the MTRs are met before starting the Standalone Client installation.

    2. The Standalone Client does not support Internet Explorer 7.

    3. The Standalone Client does not support Windows Server 2003 or VistaonlyWindows XP.

    4. JDK 1.5 is required. JDK 1.6 and higher have not been validated withEnterpriseOne as of November, 2008.

    5. Microsoft Visual Studio is not required unless you are building businessfunctions. The installation of the Standalone Client installs the Microsoft libraries

that are necessary to run EnterpriseOne, but if you plan to build businessfunctions, you will need the compiler and additional libraries that Visual Studioprovides.

    6. Verify that all previous releases of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne have beencompletely uninstalled or saved via Snapshot before installing the EnterpriseOne9.00 Standalone client.

    Installing the Req uired JDK

You must install a supported Java Development Kit (JDK) in order to support thestandard configuration that relies on a standalone version the Oracle Application Serverthat is delivered by the Standalone client installation. The JDK must reside in a directoryon the Standalone client.

To complete this task, you must obtain the required JDK from SUN Microsystems andinstall it on the Standalone client machine. Refer to the Minimum TechnicalRequirements in the section Clients > Development Clients > OC4J 10g Standalone , todetermine the correct JDK required for this installation.

Note: It is strongly advised that the machine on which you are installing has network connectivity during this JDK installation, as updates and libraries may be required fromthe Sun site as the installation proceeds. If the machine does not have network connectivity, the installer may appear to complete normally but the complete directorystructure required for Standalone client may not be present.

    To install the required JDK

    1. On the Standalone client, create two JDK directories in these paths:

    c:\Temp\JDK

    c:\E900\system\JDK

    2. Navigate to this Sun Microsystems website:

    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

On the displayed web page, locate the JDK version specified in the MinimumTechnical Requirements for the JD Edwards Standalone Client. If the currentrelease of the JDK version is greater than that specified by the MTRs, youmay need to drill down further on the Sun web site. For example, from themain index there may be a tab or a link for Previous Releases of the JDK.

    3. Once the requisite JDK has been located, click the download button, reviewthe license agreement and if you choose to accept, select the Accept option toaccept the license agreement.

    4. On Save As, navigate to a temporary directory on your local drive (forexample, c:\Temp ) and click Save.

    5. The program downloads the JDK self-extracting executable to the temporarydirectory.

Note: Do not download the .exe file of the JDK into the JDK directorythat you created in Step 1. The reason is because when you

extract this file, the file cannot exist in the same directory intowhich the extraction occurs.

    6. From Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to the temporary directory fromStep 4, highlight the downloaded executable, and double click the executableprogram to run it.

    7. If you receive a security warning, select Run.

    8. Review the Sun license agreement, and if you accept, select the Accept optionand click Next.

    9. On the Java 2 SDK InstallShield Wizard, use the browse function to change tothis directory that you created in step 1:

    c:\Temp\JDK

Note: Do not select the same folder where the install executable islocated; the installation destination folder must be different.

    10. Accept all other default values and click Next.

    11. Deselect all Browser Registration options.

    12. Click Install.

The installation process takes several minutes.

    13. When the process is complete click Finish.

To troubleshoot EnterpriseOne Standalone Client startup errors

If you have any trouble running the Standalone client, turn on additional logging andrerun the Standalone client.

    1. Run the Windows Task Manager.

    2. Kill these processes if they are running:

    activConsole.exe

    jdenet_n.exe

    3. Edit the c:\Windows\jde.ini file.

    4. In the Debug section, change the value of the Output key to FILE (withoutthe quotes).

    5. Take note of the names of the log files specified for the JobFile and DebugFilekeys in the Debug section.

    6. Run activConsole.exe from the c:\E900\system\bin32 directory.

    7. Attempt to sign into the Standalone client.

Logs are generated in the directory specified by the JobFile and DebugFilekeys in the Debug section of the jde.ini . However, the names of the fileswill be of the forms jde_pid_mmddyy.log orjdedebug_pid_mmddyy.log where

pid is the ID of the process generating the log.

mmddyy is the month, day, and year in which the log was generated.

You can determine which process ID belongs to each E1 process by noting theprocess IDs and names shown in the Windows Task Explorer and byexamining the first few lines of the generated logs.

    8. If you get an error (either in a pop-up window or in the logs) indicating that theStandalone client could not connect to the security server, try the following:

    a. Try again to sign on. The security server (processjdenet_n.exe ) may have simply been slow in startingcausing the activConsole.exe to time out.

    b. By default, the Standalone client attempts to start the webclient at the same time that activConsole.exe starts. This could cause the security server (processjdenet_n.exe ) to take too long to start causing theactivConsole.exe to time out. You can specify thatthe web client should start only when you attempt tobring up the Web menu (described in the next section). To do so, follow these steps:

Run the Windows Task Manager. Kill these processes if they are running:

    o activConsole.exe

    o jdenet_n.exe

Edit the c:\windows\jde.ini file. Change the value of the StartAppServer key in

the [LOCALWEB] section to ONDEMAND. Forexample:

    [LOCALWEB]StartAppServer=ONDEMAND

    Rerun activConsole.exe .

    Replacing EnterpriseOne Standalone Tools Release

The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.00 Standalone client is shipped with the 8.98.0.1version of the EnterpriseOne Tools Release. When a newer Tools Release becomesavailable, you may wish to install that release. Follow the instructions in this section toreplace the installed Tools Releasealso called system code. Also, because the H4Ainstaller will be run to configure some files, you will also replace the H4A installer with anewer installer.

Note: For the following instructions, we will assume that the folder where youcopied the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne installation DVD (in the section entitledDownloading the 9.00 Standalone Client from the Oracle E-Delivery Website ) is

    c:\Standalone_9.00 .

    To Replace the System

    1. If EnterpriseOne is running, stop it. Verify in Task Manager that thefollowing processes stopped:

    o activConsole.exe

    o jdenet_n.exe

If either or both of these processes are running, either wait for them tofinish or kill them via Task Manager.

    2. Because the entire system needs to be replaced, rename the old system directory in your installed EnterpriseOne Standalone Client; that is,c:\E900\system . If you cannot rename the directory, one or morerunning java.exe processes may have the directory locked. In thiscase, either reboot your machine or use Task Manager to kill thejava.exe processes.

    3. Make a backup copy of the H4A installer file calledc:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe .

    4. Download the appropriate Tools Release WINCLIENT from the UpdateCenter. The download is transferred to your machine as a .par file. Thisfile may be opened with the standard WinZip program.

Note: Do NOT open the .par file by double clicking on it. It is a self-extracting file that is normally installed on a deployment server. If youdouble-click on it, it will assume that your workstation is a deployment serverand attempt to install it.

    5. Open the .par file with WinZip.

    6. Inside the .par file will be multiple .CAB files in the Disk1\System folder. The files will be called SystemX.CAB where X is eithernonexistent or a whole number. Extract these .CAB files into a temporaryfolder. Be sure to specify Use folder names . The system .CAB files willextract to Disk 1\System under your temporary folder.

    7. Open each of these .CAB files in turn in WinZip and expand them into theDisk 1\System folder under your temporary folder. When extracting

the .CAB files, be sure to specify Use folder names .

    8. Copy the new system directory and all its files and subdirectories toyour installed EnterpriseOne Standalone Client (e.g., c:\E900 ).

    9. Also inside the .par file will be the H4A installer called Disk1\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe .Extract this file to thec:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature directory.

    10. If the SSE version of the Standalone Client is installed, follow the

instructions in the section Installing the Required JDBC Database Driver(SSE Local Database Only) .

    11. Run the H4A installer:c:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe .

    12. Follow the instructions in the section Installing the Required JDK . If theMinimum Technical Requirement for the JD Edwards Standalone Client'sJDK has not changed from the original installation of the StandaloneClient, you may copy the JDK from the original installation (e.g.,c:\E900\system_old\jdk ) into the new system.

    13. Clear your browser's cache.
