Why a focus on transition to ninth grade? Compared to other high school grades, ninth grade students nationally
have
+ Lowest grade point average
+ Most missed classes
+ Most failing grades
+ Most misbehavior referrals
+ Highest enrollment because 22% are repeating the grade
Success in ninth grade is critical to on-time graduation from high school.

High School Expectations + Monitor Academic Progress (check Report cards, use of Skyward,
schedule a meeting with teachers/counselors)
+ Encourage your child to become involved in a variety of activities
+ Review course selection process with your student in the spring of each school year
+ Counselor Information on summer programs are available in
counselors offices

8th Grade Transition to High School
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses + Advanced Placement (AP) courses are designed to help high achieving students
earn college credits while in high school.
+ In order for students to earn college credits through AP courses, students must take and pass the AP exam at the end of the school year
+ Students who earns a 3 or higher on the AP exam will earn college credit
+ If a student in unsuccessful on an AP exam, the AP exam grade will not appear on the student’s college transcript
+ All AP courses carry a 5.0 weight

Dual Credit+ Dual Credit courses are designed to help student earn college credits while in high school
+ Students must take and pass the TSI exam in order to take a Dual Credit course
+ Students who enroll in Dual Credit courses will earn college credit at the end of the semester
+ Unlike AP, students in Dual Credit do not have to take an exam in order to earn college credit
+ Unlike AP, if a student is unsuccessful in Dual Credit, the grade will appear on the student’s college transcript
+ All Dual Credit course carry an 5.0 weight

Project Lead The Way (PLTW)+ PLTW courses give students the opportunity to learn how to
solve real-world problems while collaborating with classmates
+ We offer courses in Computer Science, Biomedical Science and Engineering
+ The Engineering PLTW pathway provides students with an opportunity to earn college credit
+ All PLTW courses carry a 5.0 weight

Endorsements Students entering 9th Grade must choose from one of the following endorsements
+ STEM (Examples: Engineering, Computer Science)
+ Business & Industry (Examples: Business, Finance, Accounting)
+ Arts & Humanities (Examples: Literature, Art, Dance, Music)
+ Public Services (Examples: Hotel Management, Psychology, Teaching, Health)
+ Multidisciplinary Studies (Examples: Business, Sociology, Art)

IMPORTANT DATES!!! Course Selection+ Update your contact information in Skyward (Email, phone, etc..)
+ Setup a Course Selection Meeting with a Counselor (Jan 22-Feb 1)
+ Sign the PGP sheet before leaving a course selection meeting
+ Send your AP appeal request by March 7th, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
+ Schedules are Released/Distributed/Mailed on April 29-May 3
+ Send your “Schedule Change Request if needed” on May 3-May 24

WhiteIs the color of milk and fresh snow, the color produced by the combination of all the colors of the visible spectrum.
You can also split your contentBlackIs the color of coal, ebony, and of outer space. It is the darkest color, the result of the absence of or complete absorption of light.

Is the color of gold, butter and ripe lemons. In the spectrum of visible light, yellow is found between green and orange.
Blue
Is the colour of the clear sky and the deep sea. It is located between violet and green on the optical spectrum.
Red
Is the color of blood, and because of this it has historically been associated with sacrifice, danger and courage.
