PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE This week marks the second week of our Kindergarten orientation program. The new children have loved being in the classroom and being acquainted with the surroundings of their new school. The teachers have all commented on how well the children have settled and been involved with the activities provided. They will look forward to meeting their Year 5 buddies this week and eating their morning tea with the whole school at recess. Thank you to all the parents and carers who made it along to our information evening last Tuesday.

World Teachers’ Day was celebrated on 25th October. World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity to celebrate the 160,000+ hardworking and dedicated primary, secondary and early childhood teachers in NSW. We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and caring teachers at NWPS. Why not thank a teacher (both past and present) who has inspired you or your child.

I would like to wish the students, who are performing at the Chords Festival this week, all the best. We have students from our school who have been a part of the Core Choir, School Choir and Stage One Dance group. Our students will be performing on Wednesday 30th October at the Civic Theatre and with tickets remaining, it is not too late to purchase a ticket and watch the evening performance.

Have a fabulous week!

PINK CLASS ART EXHIBITION Pink Class has recently been greatly influenced by Cubism and Pablo Picasso, who we have been studying in class. In our portraits, we worked hard to merge front view and side view of the face into one image. As you can see in the photos below, we have used bold, non-realistic colours like Picasso. We also took care to use strong black lines like Picasso often did in his portraits. We held an Opening Art Exhibition on Friday, with special guests Mrs Standley and Mrs Hilton, and we all became official art critics, reviewing and sketching each other's amazing artworks.

CRAZY HAIR DAY On Friday the 8th of November the North Wagga Dance group will be holding a crazy hair day. It would be great if you could style your hair up, just remember anything goes on crazy hair day: teased coloured, gelled, twisted, wig, scarves, punk or just plain messy. The cost will be a gold coin donation with the money raised going towards our excursion to Sydney for School Spectacular. EMINDER: NOTES TO

KINDER GREEN LADYBIRD DAY On Tuesday Kinder Green had a a very special Ladybird Day. After reading 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson, Kinder Green wrote some fantastic sentences about the kind, clever, quiet and sneaky ladybird in the story. Then the whole class went outside onto the oval in search of our very own ladybirds. Can you believe we found 23? We kept them safe and took care of them for the day and watched them play in the ladybird home we made. Then in the afternoon we let them all fly away. We learned that ladybirds have six legs, can have up to 20 spots and they beat their wings 90 times in the time it takes you to say "Ladybird"!

OZOBOTS IN PINK CLASS

Last week in STEM, Pink class used the Ozobots to practice some more coding. Last week we drew coloured lines on paper to code, this week we used I-Pads to code using 'block' instructions to tell the Ozobot what to do. The aim of the lesson was to program the Ozobots to sweep pom-poms outside of the black rectangle on the table (we imagined the pom-poms were rubbish and the black rectangle was our beautiful Murrumbidgee river). Our whole school will be starting Peer Support Sessions today. The children will be participating in a new module, Moving Forward which focusses on resilience. The experiences in the module help children identify their qualities and strengths, develop skills, respond with a range of strategies and seek support when faced with challenges. In this session, the children will establish connections with other members of their group and develop their group agreement to enable them to work well together. The children will discuss an example of a challenging situation and some resilient and non resilient responses.

You might like to discuss with your child what they can do to help them take an active role in Peer Support.
