The world’s demand for manufactured goods is growing
at a staggering rate. Industry has responded to this
demand with many new and sometimes radical ways of
producing products. The art of manufacturing has
undergone many dramatic changes and advances.
These changes have created a dire need for more cost-
effective and efficient work holding methods and
devices. As more manufacturing companies shift their
emphasis toward a zero-parts inventory system to keep
costs down and profits up, the need for efficient and
cost-effective work holders is becoming increasingly
important.
The goal of the program is to develop the teachers’
ability to assimilate high-level, scientific, and
technological information and procedures in the area of
design and development of Industrial work holding
devices and its manufacturing and automation
processes and then break it down into chunks suitable
for teaching and research.
Course Content
• Advances in Press Tool Machines and
Operations
• Defects and remedies –industrial solutions
• Strip layouts & optimization methods
• New ways of Locating and clamping
• Turing, Welding Milling and other fixtures.

using software to design press tools, jigs and
