held liable for damage resulting fromsuch unauthorized modification.
The machine has not beendesigned for collectingdusts which are detrimentalto health or explosive.
Notes on warranty
The terms of the sales contract apply.Damages are not subject to warranty ifthey are due to non-compliance withthe maintenance and service provi-sions. The maintenance work has tobe performed by an authorised Hakoservice centre and confirmed in the"Maintenance certificate" which is thewarranty document.The following is excluded from warran-ty: fuses, natural wear and tear after over-load, and damages caused by inexperthandling and unauthorised modifica-tion of the machine. Moreover,
any claim for warranty cannot be ac-cepted if damages at the machine arecaused by fitting parts or accessorieswithout Hako's prior and explicit con-sent or by non-compliance with themaintenance instructions.
Acceptance of the machine
Upon arrival, check machine for possi-ble damages in transit. For refund ofsuch damage, have the DeutscheBahn AG or your freight forwarder con-firm such damage. Mail notificationand waybill to:

Apart from the instructions containedin this manual, the general safetyinstructions and accident preventionregulations, as imposed by law willhave to be complied with. Do not putthe Manual aside without reading iteven if you used similar sweepersbefore. Take the time to read themnow and save time later. It will be ofessence to make yourself familiar withall accessories and controls, as wellas their functions, before you startworking. Take time to read now andsave time later.Machines with known defects must notbe used.Prior to operation make yourself famili-ar with all systems and controls and"where they arrive". Avoid the mess ofhaving to read this book while trying torun the machine.Using the machine in areas withexplosion hazard, on public roads andplaces is prohibited.
The operator has to use the machinewithin its design limits.Shut the motors down before transpor-ting the machine.
Keep clear of hazard zone!
Before commencing work, the opera-tor has to make sure that the Hako-Jonas 980 E/EH and its accessoriesare in proper and safe condition. Warning and instruction labels atta-ched to the machine contain importantinformation about safe operation.Illegible or lost labels have to be repla-ced.
Make sure that all coversare fitted before starting tosweep.
When sweeping in closedrooms, provide for suffi-cient ventilation.
Pinching and shearing ha-zard. Provide for requiredsafe distance before liftingor lowering the dirt hopper.

1.4 Operation/Safety Information
Vacuum sweepers may be run by qua-lified personnel only; such personnelwill have to have evidenced their qua-lification for running the machine tothe owner or his authorised represen-tative; operators explicitly will have tobe instructed by the owner or hisauthorized representative to use themachine.
The machine may be usedfor cleaning such surfacesapproved by the owner orthis authorised representati-ve for operation of vacuumsweepers.
Before starting the engine,switch off all drives
Transporting persons on the machineis prohibited. Ride-on machine typesare to be started with the driver beingseated.
Never leave the machine unattendedbefore the motors are off and the ma-chine is protected against unintendedmovements.To prevent the machine from unautho-rised use, pull the control key to blockall drives.Shut down the motors before transportof the machine. During driving the ope-rator has to take account of local con-ditions and when working he has towatch out for other persons, especiallychildren.
Do not open the hood withthe machine running.
This machine must not beused as dust-evacuatingmachine with dust filter in-sert (separator) to collectdusts which are hazardousto health.
Compared to four-wheeledvehicles, driving stability ofthree-wheeled vehicles isreduced. We thus recom-mend:- do not negotiate curves athigh speed.- do not turn at slopes buton level ground only- ride up- or downhillstraight.

1.5 Cleaning Information
The specific safety instructions forhandling drive batteries (see leaflet88-60-2556) apply. Before proceedingto cleaning of the machine, pull thekey.
The machine is splash-proof (IPX3).
Do not clean the Hako-Jo-nas 980 E and EH by meansof high pressure cleaner orvapour jet.
Proceed to cleaning of thedirt hopper in regular inter-vals to preclude formationof bacterial deposits.

Before proceeding to repairor maintenance work pull the key.Use appropriate tools for maintenan-ce, service, setting etc. As far asaspects of safety are concerned,spare parts will have to be at least ofthe same quality as the genuine spareparts.
Switch off the motors befo-re maintaining the machineor replacing parts of it. Turnoff the machine, pull the keyand, additionally, discon-nect the battery plug.
Check hydraulic lines andhoses for damages and lea-kage in regular intervals; re-place defective hoses andlines immediately!
Before changing wheelsprotect the machine againstrolling by placing wedges.Proceed to wheel changingwhen the machine is on le-vel and solid ground.
Do not repair the pneumatictires mounted to the machi-ne yourself. Dismount thewheel and take it to repair toqualified workshop.
Use of other than the cylin-der brooms and side brus-hes approved by the manu-facturer is not admitted (seetechnical data) since use ofother cylinder brooms andside brushes may affectyour safety.
When handling lubrica-ting agents, the appli-cable regulations forprotection of the envi-ronment and prevention of fire haveto be complied with.Provide for disposal ofused oil and grease inaccordance with theprovisions imposed bylaw.
Collect cleaningagents, oil, fuel oil,grease etc. and provi-de for adequate dispo-sal. Wipe away spilledsubstances.

Before commencing anywork on the electric systemdisconnect battery plug ofthe Hako-Jonas 980 E andEH.
Do not keep batteries di-scharged for a longer peri-od; always recharge themas soon as possible.
Top with distilled water only.Never refill battery acid inbattery cells of perfect con-dition.
Open the hood before char-ging batteries; explosive ga-ses may occur during thecharging procedure.
Keep batteries dry and cle-an and clear of soiling suchas e.g. metallic dust to avo-id leakage current.
Do not place metal objectsor tools onto batteries.Short-circuit and deflagra-tion hazard.
Spilled (straight) batteryacid must not get into thesewage system before ha-ving been neutralised. Com-ply with the regulations im-posed by law and observelocal provisions.
Battery acid is highlycaustic (keep clear of chil-dren). When checking thebattery acid level, wear sa-fety glasses. If acid splas-hes get into the eyes rinsewith clear water for 15 minu-tes and contact a doctor im-mediately.Wear appropriateprotective clothes (e.g. pro-tective gloves or
