NEMA 2005 ELECTRICAL STANDARDS & PRODUCT GUI DE 3

NEMA is pleased to present the 2006 edition oftheElectrical Standards & Product Guide. Morethan 50,000 engineers, specifiers, and buyers ofelectrical products make use of the guide to makesure that electrical installations perform safelyand effectively.

NEMA has been developing electrical industrystandards for eight decades. NEMA will continueto play a critical role in promoting advanced tech-nology, from medical imaging systems to trafficcontrol systems, from homeland security devices

to electrical applications of nanotechnology. Weare indebted to the dedicated professionals whodevelop our industry standards.

NEMA is increasingly moving into the interna-tional marketplace. It is active in the InternationalElectrotechnical Commission standards develop-ment and conformity assessment processes, attempting to facilitate the entry of NEMA prod-ucts into markets across the globe. In the past fewyears, we have opened offices in Mexico, Brazil, and China, offering services to members selling

product into these markets and working on behalfof members to influence the standards develop-ment and regulatory processes in those countries.

NEMA's government relations program worksboth domestically and internationally to removetrade and regulatory barriers to doing business. InChina, which at the moment may hold the greatestopportunity for our multinationals, NEMA hasbeen working diligently to level the competitiveplaying field and foster free and fair trade.Government relations achieved a great victory lastyear with the passage of the Energy Policy Act of2005. The association was instrumental in thedrafting of key portions of the bill, including onethat requires the federal government to purchaseNEMA Premium electric motors and Energy Starlabeled products, ensuring high performance andhigh energy efficiency at the same time.

NEMA also helps itsmembers understand themarkets via its a full-serviceeconomics and marketresearch consulting shop, which has gained a reputa-tion as a reliable, attractive-ly priced provider of busi-ness information to the elec-troindustry. Known asNEMA/BIS, it is uniquely positioned to fill the

electroindustry's business information needs. Itprovides accurate and timely customized research, data collection, analysis, and forecasting to keydecision-makers in NEMA member companiesfrom relatively small surveys to the complex fore-casting models developed for NEMA productgroups. NEMA/BIS services are distinguishedfrom the competition because they are designedto meet specific customer requirements, andemploy a rigorous method of collecting accuratedata, while maintaining the utmost confidentiality

of company data. The Industry Data Exchange Association,

IDEA, a joint venture between NEMA and theNational Association of Electrical Distributors,is also contributing to an efficient marketplace bysetting standards for e-commerce and providingthe means by which those in the marketing chan-nel can transact business in the most efficient, effective, and accurate manner possible.

All told, NEMA continues to provide tremen-dous value to its members and the electrical man-ufacturing community. We are here to serve.

    Going beyond thebalance sheet.

The numbers on a balance sheet are a snapshot of a companys

financial position and theyre important. But the heart and soul of

company are its people, its products and services, the markets it

serves, the customers it helps. In the last year alone, Hubbell

people responded in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita with

unprecedented urgency. They supported the recovery of vital

energy resources, came to market with one of the largest new

product launches in company historyand much more. The way we

see it, the numbers on our financial statements tell only part of

the Hubbell story. The real story is what we do every day to achieve

    them. Visit us at www.hubbell.com

This index is a quick reference guide to all of the standards available from NEMA, including certain ANSI standards.

It notes the latest version available, the price, and the page number on which you will find the title and a short description

of the document, as well as companion standards and notices of approval or adoption by other organizations.

At least every five years, each NEMA standard is reviewed for timeliness, technical accuracy, and relevance. The dates

of the reviews are published as part of the alpha-numeric standard identifier. Revisions published for NEMA standards

are made available for holders of the base standard at a nominal price. The revision is automatically included in the basestandard for future users and the price of the standard (base and revisions) is adjusted. When a NEMA standard is pur-

chased through IHS/Global Engineering Documents, the customer will be sent notification of the standards revision.

    Some say welding

    is a static industry

that theres nothing tolearn about joining metal

    with metal. But at Lincoln

    Electric, we think there will

always be new ways to improve

    productivity. Thats why we spend

    more on research and development

than any other company in welding.

Our view is long range: we plan to

stay No. 1 in arc welding and cutting.

And well keep inventing the new tech-

nologies that drive your business forward.
