On August 11, GM announced John Stapleton, GM North America Chief Financial Officer, has been named acting global Chief Financial Offi-cer. The appointment follows the resignation of Dhivya Suryadevara, executive vice president and CFO, who has left the company for an oppor-tunity outside of the automotive industry. Though Dhivya will be departing from GM for an opportu-nity to apply her skills in another sector, she has stated that she still has great confidence in GM’s trajectory and future. The company will conduct an internal and external search for a successor.GM also announced August 11 that, after it com-pletes the Federal government’s order for 30,000 critical care ventilators by end of August, it will hand off operational control to Ventec to contin-ue manufacturing operations in Kokomo, Indiana. To date, the partnership has delivered more than 20,000 critical care ventilators to the Strategic Na-tional Stockpile for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For more information, refer to the “John Stapleton Named Acting CFO” and “GM Set to Transfer Ven-tilator Operations to Ventec Life Systems” Socrates stories.

Leadership Changes and Ventilator Update

Global Safety Week is about celebrating our com-mitment to safety and considering how our every-day choices to value safety can cause a positive ripple effect throughout the organization and within our communities. This year, we’re emphasizing GM’s Be Bold behav-ior and thinking bigger about safety. We are com-mitted to creating safer roads through our ad-vanced vehicle safety features and safer workplaces where employees feel protected and enabled to reach their full potential. We believe in creating an inclusive work environment that fos-ters innovation where every employee feels re-spected and comfortable speaking up for safety. In addition, we’re responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting safer communities through face mask and other personal protective equipment donations and the production of ven-tilators. All employees across the globe - whether working from home or from the office – are encouraged to get involved during Global Safety Week Septem-ber 14–18. One way to participate this year is to share your Safety Selfie video. 1. Shoot a selfie video horizontal/landscape high-res format. (Follow all Safety precautions without distracting yourself)2. Take your 35-40 second selfie video and answer the question: “Whether it’s at work, home or in your community, how are you bold for safety? to be eligible to be featured during the Global Safe-ty Week broadcast.3. Share your video with your Safety coordinator and/or Communications contact by September 2. By Catherine Scales and Kristy Brown

Do you have an elderly person in your life that you love and ap-preciate? National Senior Citi-zens Day, August 21, is the day to let them know how much you care and it’s an opportunity to recognize their accomplish-

ments. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan pro-claimed this holiday to raise awareness about is-sues that affect senior citizens and their quality of life. Today, seniors are still active in their communities as well as continuing to have a strong presence in the workforce. For all they do and have achieved for the good of their communities, senior citizens deserve our thanks! How to Observe National Senior Citizens Day1. Spend time at a nursing/retirement home. One of the kindest and most rewarding things one can do is to visit a nursing home. Sit and chat with resi-dents. Play games and participate in activities. You can really make a difference in someone’s life. Plus, you may find the experience fun and re-warding, too!2. Reach out to a senior family member. Do you have a senior family member? Perhaps it’s a par-ent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle. Visit them and spend some time together. If you can’t see them in person, don't text — call! Let them hear the warmth in your voice when you tell them how much you appreciate them.3. Have fun! Are you a senior citizen yourself? Well, today is all about you! Live it up and treat yourself. Spend time with your favorite people, go shop-ping — do whatever you like. This could be the day you finally try that one thing you never have time for or perhaps it's a perfect day to chill at home. You’ve earned this time, so enjoy it!Why National Senior Citizens Day is ImportantA. Seniors give wise and useful advice. Our elderly family and friends have a lifetime's worth of pre-cious experiences (and stories) to share. For cen-turies, cultures across the world have looked to the seniors in their communities for wisdom and knowledge. In times of trouble or when we simply don't know what to do, seniors are often the first people we turn to for a different or even, unusual perspective. If we listen, we can learn so much from them.B. Seniors give generously. It's widely known that seniors make more charitable donations than any other age group. They have more time to devote to others and volunteer. We appreciate how

much they look out for their loved ones and it’s a quality we love in our seniors.C. Seniors give us goodies! Perhaps this stems from their generous and charitable nature, but seniors are very good at making us feel special. Grand-parents dote on us when we need it, and some-times when we don't. To every grandparent or el-derly loved one that has given us a treat or made sure we ate well or spoiled us in some other way, we salute and appreciate you! By National Today

TIP OF THE WEEK - WORK READINESS: HIP MOBILITY

RIGHT GROIN/ADDUCTOR STRETCH Stand, feet shoulder-width apart. Take 1 large,

comfortable step to your LEFT. Keep torso upright. Transfer weight onto LEFT foot. Squat down with LEFT leg to

feel a stretch in your inner thigh of RIGHT leg, along path of green arrow.

**Be sure to keep LEFT knee behind your toes.

Improving Hip Range of Motion frees up the musculature

around the hips allows for easier lower body

function, such as picking up your feet.

Move through the movement at least 25 times or more

as time allows.

If you feel pain, STOP!!!Only move what feels good.

If you can’t do the movement very well, call or text Work-Fit at

Reminder: DO NOT move through pain. This is not a time for the “No Pain No Gain” mentality.

TIP OF THE WEEK – BIOMECHANICS TIPS: Hip MobilityDO use a wide or long stance for

better posture support.

OR

Protect your BACK with your stance:• Placing your feet properly to evenly

distribute body weight and maximize balance gives you a stable base.

• You are most stable when moving within this base.

Protect your BACK & KNEES with proper movement:

• Face the task directly. • Always pick up feet rather than

twisting torso.• This reduces stress on the

lower back and knees, as well as decreases reaching with the arms.

Always pick up feet to change

direction to avoid twisting through knees or

lower back.

DO remember “Nose Over Toes!”

Walk feet around to fully change direction!

In tight spaces, pivot your feet to avoid twisting.
