BEFORE YOU GO!The suggestions on the left panel are just a few of the more popular trekking areas. These areas are not patrolled. If you get into trouble you will be on your own. So be prepared, and tell someone where you are going, and when you will return. Below is a list of a few things to do and to bring when you head out into the backcountry. Most important is common sense. Avoid avalanche areas, and remember that any steep terrain above you has the potential to let loose and bury you. (6 inches of fresh snow blanketing a slope can pile up to 10 feet at the bottom.) Always check the weather forecast and avalanche conditions. Remember that it takes longer to go uphill than downhill, and plan your turn around time accordingly. Winter is a beautiful time to explore the Sierra, so plan ahead and have a safe and fun time!

CHECKLIST1. Tell someone who cares where you are going and when you’ll return2. Take a friend. It’s more fun and safer.3. Water — bring plenty!4. Food — i.e. energy bar, sandwich, etc.5. Adequate clothing — layers, hats, gloves6. Waterproof matches or lighter, and metal cup7. Small flashlight8. First aid kit9. Map of area and a compass10. Sunglasses, or goggles, sunblock, lip balm11. Check the weather report and avalanche info 530.587.215812. Common sense!

ABOUT SNO-PARK PERMITSIn order to park in a Sno-Park area, a vehicle must have a Sno-Park permit displayed on the dashboard. A day permit costs $5.00. It is a good at any Sno-Park on the date

for which it is issued. A season permit costs $25.00. Any vehicle parked in a Sno-Park without displaying a valid permit is subject to a $94.50 citation. Permits can be purchased at all Tahoe Dave’s locations and other retail stores in the area.
