Head Start/Preschool Dayanis Aguazul Dayanis Aguazul is WES Preschool Student of the Week. She is in Pam Mullin’s class. “Dayanis always comes to school with a smile on her face and enjoys playing outside and riding scooters in gym,” Mullin’s said. Dayanis’ favorite thing about school is playing with her friends. She doesn’t have a favorite book. STUDENTS Alexis Napier Alexis Napier is WES Intermediate Student of the Week. She is in Amy Hickman’s class. “Alexis has really come out of her shell the last couple of months, and it has been great to see her confidence grow,” Hickman said. Her favorite subject in school is math. Her favorite book is Baby Mouse. Her favorite thing about school is recess and encore classes. Intermediate ST. PATTY’S DAY LUCK OF THE IRISH - Emily Ford, Zach Bass, Sierra Swope, Abby Eakins, Grace Woodyard, Emma Beckner, Kaitlyn Bolog, Bryant Henson and Adam Burchett, all celebrate St. Patricks Day (or they don’t want to get pinched) by dressing in green. Photo by Camille McClanahan Courtney Jaconette Allison Mortensen nominated Courtney Jaconette as a student of the month. Mortensen nominated Jaconette for receiv- ing recognition from KAPOS (Cheerleading) for academics and received a scholarship. Jaconette was also chosen to represent GCHS FRYSC as a legislative page in Frankfort on Feb. 2. Jaconette is the daughter of Mark and Debra Jaconette. Grade: Senior Extracurricular Activities: Teen Court, Vice-President of the National Honor Society, varsity cheerleading, Vice-President of Student Council, Big Brother Big Sister, youth group and gender equity committee. Future plans: To attend the University of Kentucky with a double major in political science and psychology. After completing my undergraduate studies, I plan to pursue a law degree. Most memorable experience at GCHS: Growing so close to my senior class and making our last year of memories. Kayla Keith Kenneth Taylor nominated Kayla Keith for student of the month for January. Taylor said Keith is a hardworking young woman, not only in school, but also in band and the community. She always puts her best into all of her work. Keith is the daughter of Deborah Rogers and Robert Keith. Grade: Junior Extra-curricular activities: Marching band, FBLA, National Honors Society and School Based Scholars. Future plans: To attend college at Xavier University to earn a degree and become a CPA working for Procter & Gamble. Most memorable experience at GCHS: Being regional champs four out of the five years I have participated in marching band and being second in the state three out of the five years I have been in marching band. Trisha Lockaby Sonya Quince nominated Trisha Lockaby for student of the month for January. Quince said Lochaby was chosen for being an exceptional role model in the classroom and helping tutor her fellow students. Lockaby is the daugh- ter of Ernie and Chris Lockaby. Grade: Sophomore Extra-curricular activities: Volunteer at Grant Manor, attend youth events and community service at her church. Future plans: To attend Gateway Community College and graduate with a master’s degree in nursing. I hope to work at Grant Manor soon. Most memorable experience at GCHS: The medical classes are always fun for me and the positive attitude from some teach- ers, encourage me to keep moving up. Jordan Saylor Matt Shearer nominated Jordan Saylor for student of the month for January. Shearer said Saylor is constant- ly working hard main- taining excellent grades, while being respectful and under- standing. Saylor is the son of Lee and Pam Saylor. Grade: Freshman Extra-curricular activities: Basketball Future plans: Finish high school and go to a good Division I college. Most memorable experience at GCHS: Winning the homecoming prince in October. Grant County High School Students of the Month GCHS to hold SBDM election April 24 Grant County High School will be voting for a parent to serve a two-year term, starting with the 2012-13 school year. Nominations can be submitted to Tamela Smallwood on behalf of JROTC Boosters at GCHS no later than April 20. Call 859-824-9739 to nominate. Asbury, Golden Key’s Board of Directors Chair. “Our members are inspired and motivated not only to achieve excep- tional academic accomplishments but also to make a positive impact on our world through the Society’s commit- ment of ser- vice.” Golden K e y International Honour Society pro- vides aca- demic recog- nition to top- performing college and university students, as well as scholarships and awards, career and internship opportunities, network- ing, service and leadership develop- ment opportunities. Plunkett is a graphic communica- tions and business management major at EKU. She is a 2010 graduate of Grant County High School. She is the daughter of David and Donna Plunkett of Crittenden.
