The University of Science and Technology, Megha-

laya (USTM) has been established under the provi-

sion of the University of Science and Technology,

Meghalaya Act (No.6 of 2008) enacted by Legisla-

tive Assembly of Meghalaya and notified vide Ga-

zette Notification No LL(B) 87/2008/21, Dated

02.12.2008 of the Government of Meghalaya. The

University has a mission to become one of the prem-

ier universities in the country by bringing together

the leading academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs,

thinkers, administrators, corporate and other stake-

holders in an endeavour to synergize their expertise

with a view to impart world class education explor-

ing opportunities and talents of the Northeast region,

thereby, creating a centre of cutting edge research

and societal development in order to play a signifi-

cant part in the process towards nation building with

scientific temperament and knowledge capital.

The University of Science & Technology, Meghala-

ya (USTM) is the first private science and technolo-

gy university in the north-eastern region of India. It

The Department of Earth Sciences is one of the ac-

tive departments of University of Science & Tech-

nology, Meghalaya (USTM) working in various

fields of Environment, Geography, Biodiversity &

Wildlife, Disaster Management, Natural Resource

Management and Sustainable Development primari-

ly focusing in the field of Remote Sensing and GIS.

The Department offers full time Post Graduate De-

gree in M.Sc. Environmental Science and M. A. / M.

Sc. Geography with specialization in Geoinformat-

ics, Regional Planning; and Ph. D. in Environmental

Science and Geography respectively.

Infrastructure and the Department of Earth Sci-

ences, University of Science and Technology

The Department of Earth Sciences has well-

established remote sensing and geographic infor-

mation systems labs, cartographic laboratories and

lecture rooms with LCD Projectors, geospatial soft-

ware and tools, GPS, Internet with LAN & WiFi,

etc. There are 10 regular faculty members in the de-

partment.

The University has a well equipped guest house

with 30 rooms, three auditorium, a conference Hall,

Bank ATM , Health Centre, Book Stalls and Res-

taurants on campus.

Lodging

The University has a guest house on campus where

the participants will be accommodated.

About the Summer School in Geospatial Tech-

nologies (Level 1)

The 21 day summer school in geospatial technolo-

gies (Level 1) supported by the Natural Resource

Data Management System of the Department of Sci-

ence and Technology, Government of India will fo-

cus on building knowledge and skills in using open

source geospatial technologies.
