PRE-STRESSINGDIFFERENCE
The
Because the wire stretches,it can be “pre-stressed” to produce zeromovement and compensate for buildingsettling and long term wood shrinkage.Shrinkage and movement are a commonproblem in wood framed buildings; aproblem which the old method of strapsand threaded anchors simply do notaddress. When the building is exposed todead loads as it is being built, deflectionsdevelop in these products, creating a“loose” load path to the foundation. Loosestructural connectors allow movementwhich causes the building to be “pulledapart” until these parts become tight, during high winds. This movement is alsoone of the major contributors to drywalland stucco cracks and bowing trim.
Quick Ties do not need to be secured norrequire take-up devices at each floor.
QuickTies are flexible and elastic. By pre-stressing to a design load for 115- 215mphwinds, QuickTies are designed to allowzero movement until the forces applied,(wind or seismic) reach the pre-stress load. That’s why QuickTies keep your home“Stronger in the Storm.”™ They simplycinch the top plate to the building’sfoundation!
QuickTies are easy to inspect. Atinstallation, the pre-stress load exceedsthe design load; therefore “proof-testing”each QuickTie when installed, and notduring a storm!
Installed in thousands of single-family andapartment homes... is the smartframing system for uplift and shear loads.A less expensive & better way to frame!•Safe and secure engineered system•Meets model building codes•Install QuickTies after framing is up•Easy to inspect•Faster than straps and endless nailing•Less expensive than conventional ties•Compensates for wood shrinkageby “pre-stressing” (see below)QuickTies•Reduces nail popsand drywall/stucco cracks
The system installs in half thetime and has been successfully used onthousands of wood structures. The system isinstalled after the building is framed. QuickTieseliminate the need for labor-intensive strapsthat bulge drywall and are time-intensive toinstall and difficult to inspect.

PRODUCT FEATURES:The QuickTie™System is aroof and wall anchoringsystem consisting of wirerope with threaded studsswaged to each end. Oneof the threaded studs iscoupled to a cast-in-placeanchor bolt or embeddedinto cured concrete byinserting it into a predrilledhole and using epoxyadhesive to anchor it to thefoundation. The oppositeend of the wire rope withthe threaded stud isextended vertically to theuppermost top of themasonry wall, insertedthrough a hole drilledthrough the wood topplate(s), and attached to asteel plate and nut that areplaced on top of the topplate(s). The nut is thentightened providing acontinuous load path holddown resistance for thewall. Trusses areconnected with QuickConnectors to providedistribution of load to theQuickTie™System. QUICKTIE HOLD-DOWN ALLOWABLE LOADS
QuickTies are used to resist three different loads that develop from a wind or seismic event. These loads are: 1) Uplift loads from the roof system (as seen on the previous two pages ofthis catalog); 2) Horizontal loads at the bottom plate; and, 3) Overturning forces at the ends of shear walls (hold-down as show in this and the next page). When using QuickTies as hold-downs the wood columns of the shear walls are pre-stressed. The columns are compressed between the foundation and the uppermost wood top plateusing elastic QuickTie(s). The QuickTie(s) are attached to the foundation with mechanical or chemical anchor attachments. The QuickTie(s) are attached to the top plate using threadedfasteners, steel plates, and nuts. The tensioning process applies a pre-compression force that is equal to the service over turning load at the end of the shear wall. Initial overstress areapplied to the QuickTie(s) to compensate for shortening of the building due to the closing together of construction gaps between the wood members, wood shrinkage of the wall, and, stress relaxation in the QuickTie.The bottom of this page shows different applications of the QuickTie(s) when using them as hold-downs. When designing with QuickTie(s), the designer should place the shear wallhold-downs first and then fill in between the hold-downs with QuickTie(s) from the uplift spacing table (Page 7) to satisfy the roof uplift.Because these overturning loads can be very high, studs at shear wall ends shall be sized to resist the additional compression load from the pre-compressing QuickTie(s). The tablebelow indicates the minimum number of studs required when using a specific QuickTie(s) as a hold-down. The stud configurations below the table show possible stud configurations(refer to the notes and illustrations on this page for additional information).
Notes:The stud configuration
illustrations shown are only possibleconfigurations to meet thecompression loads. Theseillustrations do not indicate thatadditional studs must be added.Corners, tees, jacks, and king studscan be used as requiredcompression studs when locatednext to QuickTies.
The design professional shouldcheck for the correct number ofcompression studs in combinationwith other loads developed by thestructural designer.
QuickTie(s) are hold-downsonly. Shear walls shall be designedby the design professional usingproper framing, sheathing, andfasteners to resist wind or seismicloads.
Epoxy anchors should be placedbetween QuickTie hold-downs tosatisfy horizontal loads at thebottom plate.
To resist loads higher thanshown here, additional Quick Tie(s)and studs can be added.
When used as a hold-down,additional QuickTie(s) are notneeded at the same location to meetroof uplift loads as shown on pages6 and 7.
Where wood walls are installedover reinforced masonry walls, theelastic QuickTie(s) may beanchored into formed concrete tiebeams.
When grouted masonry tiebeams comprise the top course ofreinforced masonry walls, theelastic QuickTie(s) shall be coupledto anchor bolts that have beenhooked and wired under acontinuous reinforcing bar, locatedat least 5 inches below the top ofthe tie beam. Concrete is then castinto the tie beam. Mechanical orchemical anchors may be used aslong as they are installed into aminimum 2500 psi concrete mix fill, and the anchors meet edge andembedment requirements.
