Dear Parents/Guardians, Congratulations on making it this far into remote and flexible learning. We’ve done about 17 days! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support, patience and understanding as we navigate the unchartered waters of remote learning. Hopefully your routines are becoming embedded and we are all getting into the swing of it. During this time of isolation the staff at K.P.S. wish all our Mothers, Grandmothers and very important family members a very “Happy Mothers Day!” We usually have a “well stocked” Mother’s Day stall to help celebrate our mothers and family members, but not this year unfortunately. So dads you have a couple of shopping days to go! Just For Fun Q. What happened when the principal tied everyone’s laces together? A. They went on a class trip. Q. Why is it dangerous to do math in the jungle? A. Because when you add four and four you get ate (eight) A Few Q & A’s Please remember the wonderful staff at Karingal P.S. are here to support you. Here are a few more common questions that have been asked.

How can I teach my children and do my job? You can’t. Our teachers who have school-aged children are also trying to strike the balance, and we recognize that it is not easy. The most important thing to remember is that parents are not teachers and we are not expecting you to teach your children. You have a very important role to play; supporting and loving your children through this challenging time.

How much time should children spend on their work? There are different expectations for different year levels and your child’s teacher will communicate their expectations to you. The primary focus is on literacy and numeracy. We understand that the day will not run like a normal school day as remote learning will work around what’s happening at home. Learning from home will need to look different in each home, since every family has different resources. Our staff are all willing and available to support you to establish routines that will work for you and your family. Teachers are aiming to set work that can be completed independently or with minimal supervision. If this is not your child’s experience, please contact the classroom teacher by email.

Something to share I am sure you have seen a thousand memes, quotes and messages on social media regarding remote learning, but I really liked this one and thought it was worth sharing… Dear Parents, Don’t stress about school work. When we are back at school, I will get your children back on track. I am a teacher and that’s my superpower. What I can’t fix is the social-emotional trauma that prevents the brain from learning. So right now, I need you to share your calm, share your strength and share your laughter with your children. No kids are ahead. No kids are behind. Your children are exactly where they need to be. With Love, All the teachers on Planet Earth. We are all in this together, Stay safe and healthy. Karen Luff Principal P.S. Look out for our Remote Learning School Assembly on Friday 15th May.
