Absolute Value
Definition:the distance between the
origin and the point representing the real
number

Kevin was careful to use a consistent ratio of 3 parts yellow paint to 1 part blue
paint so that his colors would match.
Unit Rate
Definition:a ratio of two quantities with
different units and a denominator of 1
Owen compared the unit rates to see which box of cereal was the better deal.
ProportionDefinition:an equation stating that two
ratios are equal
Rylin knew the cost for 3 pounds of pasta, so she
used a proportion to find the cost for 6 pounds.
Proportional Relationship
Definition:as one amount increases,
another amount increases at the same rate
There was a proportional relationship between the number of hours and the total distance traveled.
Constant of Proportionality
Definition:the constant value of the ratio of two proportional
quantities
The equation y=3x has a constant of proportionality
of 3.
Scale Drawing
Definition:a drawing that is used to
represent an object that is too large or too small to be
drawn at actual size

Definition:a question that encourages a particular response or a
sample that is not representative of a
population
If you ask which NFL team is the best while attending
an Eagles game, your results could be biased.

Unbiased
Definition:a neutral question or a
random sample that is a large enough representation
of a population
https://www.clker.com/clipart-smaller-crowd-rdc-color.html
Edwin worded his survey questions carefully to make
sure they were unbiased.
Likelihood Definition:the chance that something
will happen

from the deck.
Theoretical Probability
Definition:the probability of the number of favorable
outcomes to the number of possible outcomes; what
should happen
http://www.paperspencils.com/2016/11/13/cointoss-a-200-word-rpg/
The theoretical probability of flipping heads is ½ or 50%, but if you flip a coin
twice you could get all heads.
Experimental Probability
Definition:the probability that is based on the repeated trials of an
experiment; what does happen
If Joe got Red, Red, Red, Yellow, Blue on his spinner,
then the experimental probability of spinning red
is ⅗.
