From the Desk of Rep. Dovilla

    Dear 7th District Resident:

The lazy, hazy days of summer are here, but even during this

traditional time of vacation the Ohio General Assembly continues to work

    on your behalf.

While the House is on summer recess from voting sessions, I am

taking my standing committee on the road around our great state.Between now and September, the House Policy and Legislative Oversight

Committee will conduct a series of field hearings in all corners of the state

on a variety of policy issues that are important to Ohioans. You can read

more about this opportunity to interface directly with some of your

elected officials in our At the Statehouse section below.

With fewer trips to Columbus, this is also a busy time closer to

home. In addition to visiting with you at our communities summer

parades and festivals, I am using these weeks away from the Statehouse to

meet with various constituents and organizations throughout our district.

Some of my recent and upcoming activities are outlined in our Around

the 7th segment of this newsletter. If you would like to schedule ameeting with me, whether on an individual basis or for your company or

organization, please reach out to us. This fall, we will hold our next set of

district office hours; stay tuned for more information on these regular

opportunities to meet me in our local public libraries.

It is a privilege to serve you and your family in the Ohio House of

Representatives. If I may ever be of assistance to you, please contact my

office at 614-466-4895 or [email protected]. I hope to hear from you

    soon.

    Sincerely,

    State Representative Mike Dovilla

The House stands in recess from voting sessions until September,

but the work of your General Assembly continues during the summer

months. Per the Ohio Constitution, the House must gavel in for sessions

every five days (excluding Sundays) throughout our two-year legislative

session. This allows members to introduce bills and lets the House

conduct other essential business even when regular sessions are not

    scheduled.

More substantively, I have decided to use the summer to take

state government directly to Ohioans. The House Policy and Legislative

Oversight Committee, which I am honored to chair, will conduct a series of

field hearings in July, August, and September in various regions of thestate on the following topics:

    the targeting of Ohioans by the Internal Revenue Service;

the threat of increased governmental regulation of coal-fired

    power plants on Ohios families and businesses;

    the positive impact of tourism on Ohios economic development;

    and

the promotion of employment and other services for Ohios

    military veterans.

The first of these hearings is scheduled for Thursday, July 25, at

1:00 p.m., at the University of Cincinnatis College of Education Criminal

Justice and Human Services. This will be the second hearing (proponenttestimony) on House Concurrent Resolution 27 (Johnson-Mallory), a

bipartisan measure to urge the IRS to take immediate action to correct its

policies and cease targeting organizations applying for tax-exempt status

based on their political affiliation. I encourage Ohio residents or

organizations who were targeted by the IRS to contact my office for more

information on how to testify in person or to submit written testimony for

    the committees consideration.

The other hearings indicated above will be scheduled in August

and September in southeast, northwest, and northeast Ohio, respectively.

It is my hope that this inclusive process will allow more Ohioans to be

involved in public policymaking that generally is centered on activities at

    the Statehouse in Columbus.

In addition to preparing for our summer hearings and continuing

to work on legislative matters at the Statehouse, over the past few weeks,

I participated in the following activities in our district:

On June 28, on the invitation of Olmsted Falls Senior Center

Director Kathi Lowery, I spoke at a meeting of the Cuyahoga County

Municipal Office on Aging. We discussed House Bill 49, the Ohio ElderJustice Act, of which I am a lead sponsor.

On June 28, I attended the graduation ceremony of the second

Cleveland cohort of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at

Cuyahoga Community College. I was pleased to be the guest of my

constituent Ann Reichle, owner of Angelinas Pizza.

On July 15, I participated in the first meeting of the newly

designated Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission. Among other

actions, the Commission approved the issuance of $1.5 billion in new

bonds authorized by House Bill 51, the biennial transportation budget. These dollars will help advance existing Turnpike and other northern Ohioinfrastructure projects, including the second span of the Inner Belt bridge

in downtown Cleveland. I have followed up with ODOT and OTIC

regarding the pledged use of some of this funding for Turnpike noisemitigation in suburban areas. Action on this matter remains a key priority

for me, and I am committed to addressing it for impacted residents of the7th District.

On July 15, I met with representatives from the Council of SmallerEnterprises to discuss my priorities related to job creation and economicdevelopment for small businesses in our district and Greater Cleveland.
