Julie Steinberg, piano, and David Abel, vio-lin and viola, present a concert featuring “Sonata in F Major, Opus 24” by Beethoven and “Sonata for Viola and Piano, Opus 147” by Shostakovich. Violinist David Abel and pianist Julie Steinberg appear frequently in recitals. Together they have recorded two so-nata programs for Wilson Audio Records. At the Library of Congress, they have premiered works commissioned through the McKim Fund by Ernst Bacon, John Harbison, Steve Mackey, and Paul Dresher. They also have ap-peared in Michael Tilson Thomas’ American Mavericks with the San Francisco Sympho-ny. Joined by percussionist William Winant, they established the Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio. They have commissioned more than 25 works for their unique combination includ-ing trios by Lou Harrison, Terry Riley, Ralph Shapey, and Frederic Rzewski. Both David Abel and Julie Steinberg have taught at Mills College in Oakland and at UC Berkeley.
John Boyajy received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied with Rosina Lhévinne, Mieczyslaw Mu ünz, and Katherine Bacon. He has appeared at Avery Fisher Hall in Lin-coln Center, and on the Concerts Grand and
Dance Palace piano series in Marin County. In February of 2009 he appeared at Old First Church in San Francisco, the venue for the Chopin Foundation’s fundraiser. In addition to accompanying the choir and appearing as a soloist at All Saints Lutheran Church in Novato, John teaches piano and coaches vo-calists at his San Marin studio. His students have won scholarships and prizes throughout California.
This coming together of two original musi-cal beings has given birth to a new sound, a KHDOLQJDQGOLIHDI¿UPLQJMRXUQH\LQWRDQHZworld of music, both grounded and spacious, earthy and transcendent. Mariana Ingold is a composer, instrumentalist, singer, teacher, and key contributor to the movement of Uru-guayan music. Born into a musical family, she has been active professionally as an artist since 1977 both in Uruguay and internation-ally. Keyboard innovator Kit Walker thrives on new musical horizons. Although in his early years he was classically trained as a pia-nist, pipe organist, and composer, Kit wasn’t content to stop there. His groundbreaking albums for Windham Hill Jazz, “Dancing on the Edge of the World,” and “Fire in the Lake,” produced with steel pan master Andy Narell, and released in the late 1980s, helped to broaden the spectrum of contemporary jazz.

Trivia Bee 2013
For those new to the community, this is a fantastic evening of costumes, questions, and rivalry. uestions will be covering a wide array of topics, including—but not limited to—sports, television shows, mov-ies, popular and classic literature, science, music, history, geography, and some total-ly meaningless facts. Super host and Alex Trebek look-a-like Matt Gallagher will once again serve up the answers while you supply the questions.
The audience is encouraged to play along or to come cheer friends on as teams com-pete for fabulous prizes. The entry fee is $120 per team; teams may have three or four members. If you are interested in be-ing on a team but need teammates, call Kelly at 663-1075, and we’ll try to link you up with other willing recruits. We encour-age all teams to come in costume, choose
names, and study rigorously for the event. The winners will be crowned Queen (or King) Bees; we’re hoping for another hot competition this year!
Delicious refreshments will be served, DQG¿UVW VHFRQGDQG WKLUGSUL]HVZLOOEHawarded, as well as a prize for the team with the best costume. We’re expecting an-RWKHUIDEXORXVO\FUHDWLYHVHWRIRXW¿WVIURPthe Trivia Bee teams—come with your best shot to take the title! In the knowledge category, the power struggle continues be-tween MALT and Four Guys. Can anyone challenge their global supremacy? Come WRWKH7ULYLD%HHWR¿QGRXW
