Standing on the Mount of Olives Near the time of Pentecost They were asking when the Kingdom comes He was telling His disciples of What God would do “God has called, you must tell them all The Good News of the cross By His po-WER you’ll talk about it When the Spirit of the Lord’s poured out You’ll tell the News” And then, Jesus – vanished from sight In the air He flew To the nations, go and share the News He said, “I’ll even be with you forever Yes, I’ll BE with you” To the nations, go and share the News

interlude Well, they TOOK to heart What Jesus remarked And they went to pray They went to Jerusalem They’re waiting for a Power within They’re waiting on the Lord Then they asked to– be blest And made a request – for the Spirit of life In ten days – they were set free – He blew – in like a breeze A po-wer from the Lord They kept saying, I’ve never really seen this kind of thing– before, Have you?” To the nations, go and share the News And they said, “What we have We’re comin’ to share– with you” To the nations, go and share the News To the nations, go and share the News To the nations, go and share the News

Rose Garden Lynn Anderson knows the value of suffering © 2001 by David J. Landegent

I beg your pardon He never promised you a rose garden Along with the sunshine There's gotta be a little rain some time

Though He takes, He’s gonna give So live and let Him, and let go~~ I beg your pardon

He never promised you a rose garden He could promise you things Like big diamond rings But you’ll find much better Hopes in what the Lord has ordered So you better think it over Well, if wishin’ would do Then dreams would come true We would hand you the world right now On a silver platter But what really matters

So smile in your trials and don’t be sorry God has the power to make you jolly God above is there for good times and for bad

chorus a, brief interlude

I beg your pardon He never promised you a rose garden He could take away gloom And promise you the moon But the Lord’s got a plan to mold you Your sufferin’– helps you grow It’s the ONE thing He wants you to know And when the water’s gettin’ deep You’re safe in His keep For the Lord always is present there To pull you out And I know what I’m talkin’ about

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Joan Baez cries, “Babylon is fallen” (Rev. 17-19) © 2001 by David J. Landegent

Se-ven angels who came Here to pour ho-ly wrath on men They showed a vision again A harlot who lived in sin She’s a city, and full of pride All the merchants– needed her to survive The kings adored– her riches and wealth And how they cried– When they heard that harlot fell–

They cried– for fallen Babylon And all the world was weeping They cried– for fallen Babylon But all believers were singin’ They went – Lord, hallelu~jah Glory to God, and worship Him above

Babylon’s full of adultery Of splendor and luxury She’s so full of greed Hurt all the ones in need The incense, wine, and costly wood The silver– and material goods The cattle and sheep, the very best But they’ve forever– forsaken the way that’s blest

chorus If you’re hearin’ my story Heed the Lord’s commands And give the Father the glory And flee the rebel’s land Well, if you leave that scene, you’ll be saved Cuz the City is head–in’ for the grave When God comes to judge, the sinners weep When He COMES again, look up See the Victory

Up on Cripple Creek The Band is full of Jesus freaks © 2002 by David J. Landegent

When Christ spoke up on the mountain You know– He said where to go From here to the nations on the edges Gotta let– the people know We’re all like missionaries Gotta tell the world the holy news He told us to evangelize It’s the very least we could do

I’m a Jesus freak – He sends me If I’m feelin’ weak – He mends me I just gotta speak – He defends me

I’ve been redeemed by the heavenly-sent Son Good News had just claimed me, To the nations I did go I went cuz I’m born again And I got all my brothers in tow God has shown his favor The vict’ry had been won So turn back– from sin and get back on track Turn now – to the Son

chorus I turned from all of my sinning, And I got a lotta blessings back The Lord– of love is givin’ me His grace I just had to laugh Now there's one thing in the whole wide world, I sure would like to see That's when my neighbors start to find Livin’ for eternity

chorus Now me and my mates were get-tin’ so slack We had been like stumblin’ blocks We said, “We can’t stay the way we’ve been No, we gotta walk the talk” Now, God just gave our heart a start So we got up– on our feet And the Lord, well He filled our empty souls We’ll take it to the streets

chorus, interlude There's a world out there callin’ FOR ya It’s a world that’s freezing cold But we’re walk–in’ on the road We’re tryin’ to save some souls So I guess, I’ll call out to the masses Tell em Christ– will come again And you know, deep down, I gotta tell ‘em To come and be forgiven of sin

chorus

Let Your Love Flow Bellamy Brothers becomes springs of living water © 1999 by David J. Landegent

There’s a reason – for the sunshiny sky And there’s a reason – why I’m feeling so high I turn to Jesus — cuz His love light shines all

around us You know He’s healin’ – heals you deep inside And He’s revealin’ — no, His love can’t hide And He’s appealin’ — through the darkest nights To your spirit

Just let His love flow, Like a mountain stream And let His love go, And the lost are redeemed And let His love show, And you’ll know what I mean, He’s the reason Let His love fly, like a bird on the wing And let His love bind you, to our King of Kings And let His love shine & you’ll know what I mean, He’s the reason

There’s a reason — for the warm, sweet nights And there’s a reason — for the candlelight Just turn to Jesus – cuz His love light shines All around us Be filled with wonder — at His holy grace Nothing will sunder — His love will embrace Just feel the thunder, as He shows His face, He won’t hold back

Rainy Night in Georgia Brook Benton offers up a lament © 2002 by David J. Landegent

Hoverin' by my suitcase, Tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night Heavy rain fallin', Seems I hear Your voice callin' "It's all right."

A rainy night in Georgia, A rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

Neon signs a’flashin', Taxi cabs and buses passin' through the night A distant moanin' of a train Seems to play a sad refrain to the night

But it’s a rainy night in Georgia, Such a rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

How many times– I wondered I still– all out Your name~ No matter – how you look at it or think of it It's life and you just got to pray the same

interlude I find me a place in a box car, So I take my guitar to pass some time Late at night when it's hard to rest I bow my head down to my chest and I feel fine

But it's a rainy night in Georgia, Savior, it's a rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world Kinda lonely, Savior It’s rainin’ all over the world

Rainin’, rainin’, rainin', rainin' Rainin’, rainin’, rainin', rainin' Rainin’, rainin’, rainin', rainin' Rainin’, rainin’, rainin', rainin' Rainin’ – all over the world

Patches Clarence Carter testifies about depending on God © 2002 by David J. Landegent

I was born and raised down in Alabama On a farm way back up in the woods I was so raggedy, folks used call me, “Patches” Papa used to tease me ‘bout it Of course deep down inside he was hurt Cuz he’d done all he could My papa was a great ol’ man I can see him with a shovel in his hand, see Education he never had He did wonders when the times got bad The little money from the crops he raised Barely paid the bills we made Oh, life it kicked him down to the ground When he tried to get up, Life would kick him back down One day papa called me to his dyin’ bed Put his hands on my shoulders And in tears he said

He said, “Patches Just depend upon the Lord To pull the family through The Word of God is always true

Two days later papa passed away And I became a man that day So I told mama I was gonna quit school But she said that was daddy’s strictest rule So every morning ‘fore I went to school I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too Sometimes I felt that I couldn’t go on I wanted to leave, just run away from home But I would remember what my daddy said With tears in his eyes on his dyin’ bed

He said, “Patches, Just depend upon the Lord And try to do your best It’s up to God to do the rest”

Then one day a strong rain came And washed all the crops away And at the age of 13, I thought I was carryin’ The weight of the whole world on my shoulders And you know mama knew What I was going through Cuz every day I had to work the fields Cuz that’s the only way we got our meals You see, I was the oldest of the family And everybody else depended on me Every night I heard my mama pray

“Lord, give him strength to make another day” Four years have passed & all the kids have grown The angels took mama to a brand new home Lord knows, people, I shed my tears But my daddy’s voice kept me through the years

Sayin’, “Patches Just depend upon the Lord To pull the family through The Word of God is always true

Oh, I can still hear papa’s voice sayin’, “Patches, just depend upon the Lord And try to do your best It’s up to God to do the rest” I can still hear papa when he said, “Patches, just depend upon the Lord To pull the family through

Judy Mae Boomer Castleman tells the story of Joseph © 2003 by David J. Landegent

As a little child of tragedy It hurt when my momma died And when my daddy found out Just a short time later Well, he broke right down and cried And after that year, I was his pet My brothers were so enraged They decided to sell away me – as a slave Well, my daddy did a lot of sending us out And before he would say goodbye He’d tell ‘em to take care of their young brother I’m the apple of his eye And then one day they plotted my goodbye “Let’s sell him so he’s far a-way” They laughed at the boy, on his knees now As a slave

Just a slave, but the Lord had a way Of a’lookin’ after me Though my life– was darker, He lighted the night Got me so ready to lead

Well, one night while my master was gone His wife came to my room She said that she had to talk to me Cuz the master’s gonna be home soon She said, “You know I get so lonely and cold When your master is gone for days Oh, what a boy like you could do, for me today” Well, I told her that I’d never sin against the Lord And pulled away my hand How could I do such a wicked thing And then I turned away and ran

Her lust became an angry fire And she accused me of her own shame They threw me in the dungeon, as a slave

chorus

Well, you know it’s only God’s providence That’s truly raisin’ me high The Pharaoh showed his favor – our God is good I even got to save my brothers’ lives But thinkin’ back now, I am filled with wonder To this very day It was Him turning sin into blessing, for a slave It was Him turning sin into blessing, for a slave

Finally knowing within that I wanted the Lord Needing repentance again from my cynical snares Mercy I find, calling in prayer You know my faults – my fault I fear I thought that You’d want what I’d want – Sorrowful tears And who wears the crown? You wear the crown O Father, draw near

Hot Rod Lincoln Commander Cody must decide: hot rod or true God? © 2003 by David J. Landegent

My pappy said, "Son, You're better really start thinkin’ If it’s God you’ll serve or that hot rod Lincoln”

brief interlude Have you heard this story of the hot rod race When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace. That story is true, I'm here to say I was drivin' that Model A. It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up. That Model A body makes it look like a pup. It's got eight cylinders and uses them all. It's got overdrive, just won't stall. With a 4-barrel carb and a dual exhaust, With 4.11 gears, you can really get lost. It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared. The brakes are good, tires fair. Pulled out of San Pedro late one night The moon and the stars were shinin' bright. We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill Passing cars like they was standing still.

brief interlude All of a sudden in a wink of an eye A Cadillac sedan passed us by. I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me!" By then the taillight was all you could see. Now the fellas was ribbin' for bein' behind, So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind. Took my foot off the gas and man alive, I shoved it on down into overdrive. Wound it up to a hundred-and-ten My speedometer said that I hit top end. My foot was glue, like lead to the floor.

That's all there is and there ain't no more. Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense And telephone poles looked like a picket fence. They said, "Slow down! I see spots! The lines on the road just look like dots." Took a corner; sideswiped a truck, Crossed my fingers just for luck. My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts. The guy beside me was white as a ghost.

brief interlude Smoke was comin' from out of the back When I started to gain on that Cadillac. Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass. Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas? We had flames comin' from out of the side. Feel the tension. Man! What a ride! I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly!" And that Caddy pulled over and let us by. Now all of a sudden she started to knockin', And down in the dips she started to rockin'. I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin' The cops was after my hot rod Lincoln! They arrested me and they put me in jail. And called my pappy to throw my bail. And he said, "Son, You're better really start thinkin’ If it’s God you’ll serve or that hot - rod - Lincoln”

One Tin Soldier Coven warns against violent greed © 2003 by David J. Landegent

Listen children to a story

That was written long ago 'Bout a kingdom, on a mountain And the valley folk below On the mountain was a treasure Buried deep beneath a stone And the valley people swore They'd have it for their very own

Go ahead and hate your neighbor Go ahead and cheat a friend Do it in the name of Heaven Try to justify it in the end There won’t be any celebration Come the Judgment Day On the sorry morning after, hoo~ Empty sinners sent away

So the people of the valley Sent a message up the hill Asking for the buried treasure Tons of gold for which they'd kill Came an answer from the kingdom With our brothers we will share All the secrets of our mountain All the riches buried there Now the valley cried in anger Mount your horses, draw your sword And they killed the mountain people So they won their just reward Now they stood beside the treasure On the mountain dark and red Turn the stone and looked beneath it “Peace on Earth” was all it said

Desiderata Les Crane gives words of godly advice © 2003 by David J. Landegent

Go peacefully amid the noise and haste, And remember the peace that abounds in Jesus. As far as possible without surrender, Be on good terms with all persons. Speak God’s truth quietly and clearly, And listen to others - Even the dull and ignorant, They too need God’s story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons They are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, You may become vain and bitter, For always there will be Greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy God refreshments and follow God’s plans. Keep interested in the Lord and fear However humble, serving’s a real possession In the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, For the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is. Many Christians strive for high ideals, And everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection, Neither be cynical about love. For in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, It is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, Gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Find the strength of Jesus to shield you in sudden

misfortune, But do not distress yourself with imaginings - Many fears are borne of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the Savior’s Word. You’re blessed by the Tree and the Scars You’ll find His light will draw near And whether or not it is clear to you,

No doubt the Lord’s plan is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, Whatever He may lead you to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, In the noisy confusion of life, Keep peace with your Lord. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, It is still a beautiful world. Be joyful. Find life in Jesus.

Chick-a-boom Daddy Dewdrop has an Easter dream © 2003 by David J. Landegent

Last night I had a crazy dream About a crypt and I asked to see it Oh, with news so good, oh could it be real? I looked where they buried Jesus Angels then appeared, in the garden It was after three days And they asked who I was seeking “Why do you look for your Lord He isn’t here among the dead?” I asked about the crypt But then they said to me:

Check the tomb, check the tomb Jesus has risen Check the tomb, check the tomb Our Lord has risen Check the tomb, check the tomb Jesus has risen Check the tomb, check the empty tomb

I found the burial cloth, inside the sepulcher But where had the body gone, from that tomb This holy angel sat and shouting out praises “Give God the glory and hallelu” He said, “Hey man, ain’t no jive, I’ll tell you, where the Lord went” And he looked at me, as pleased as could be And said these words But I wondered what he meant

Goodbye Girl David Gates brings God’s comfort on his deathbed © 2004 by David J. Landegent

All our life together We’ve loved what Jesus gave But when the Savior takes me You must not slip away I know it's hard believin' The words you've heard before But listen, you must trust them just once more Cuz of heaven:

Goodbye– doesn't mean forever Let me tell you goodbye– Doesn't mean we'll never be together again If you wake up and I'm not there, I won't be long away For in life or death, the Holy Lord Is holding me and you

I know you've been shaken, Afraid to hurt again You fight the Father’s plan for me Instead of givin’ in But death won’t last forever, In heaven you will see That Christ arose for you and rose for me So remember

Goodbye– doesn't mean forever Let me tell you goodbye– Doesn't mean we'll never be together again Though I maybe soon WILL depart, The Spirit comforts hearts So believe and trust the Holy Lord Till we’re all home at last

Junk Food Junkie Larry Groce confesses his sin of gluttony © 2004 by David J. Landegent

You know I love that organic cooking I always ask for more And they call me Mr. Natural On down to the health food store I only eat good sea salt White sugar don't touch my lips And my friends is always Begging me to take them On macrobiotic trips – yes, they are Oh, but at night I take out my strongbox That I keep under lock and key And I take it off to my closet Where nobody else can see I open that door so slowly Take a peek up north and south Then I pull out a Hostess Twinkie And I pop it in my mouth

Yeah, in the daytime I'm Mr. Natural Just as healthy as I can be But at night I'm a junk food junkie Good Lord, have pity on me

Well, at lunchtime you can always find me At the Whole Earth Vitamin Bar Just sucking on my plain white yogurt From my hand thrown pottery jar And sippin' a little hand pressed cider With a carrot stick for dessert And wiping my face in a natural way On the sleeve of my peasant shirt – oh yeah Ah, but when that clock strikes midnight And I'm all by myself I work that combination On my secret hideaway shelf And I pull out some Fritos corn chips Dr. Pepper and an Ole Moon Pie Then I sit back in stuffin’ my own addiction With a gluttonous junk food high

Back When My Hair Was Short Gunhill Road finds the meaning of love © 2004 by David J. Landegent

Back when my hair was short I didn’t know the Lord Wore pointed shoes and big pants Drank till my eyes were red Hid Playboy ‘neath my bed Heard the DJ’s at the dance (When we danced, when we danced–) Back when I shirked the Lord I met some friends in court For stealing hubcaps from cars Chain smoking under the stars Played all night pinball in bars

And dreamed about love (love~) We were experts on love We talked our way all around it And even if we had found it We couldn’t respond

Later I changed my ways College and long-haired days Seeing three concerts a week An honest, but odd hippy freak Too busy reading to speak

Except about love (love~) We held rallies for love But no one knew what they stood for How many months were they good for The meaning was gone

Then when I met the Lord I opened up the door With God, I came back alive (Came back, came back alive) And what it takes to survive Wringing the truth out of jive

I’ll tell you of love (love) More than ever it’s love Call out in faith and you’ll find it And it’s the Lord that’s behind it He makes us belong

Now that I’ve met the Lord, I am no longer bored Open your heart and believe Gospel revealed to me, not just philosophy…

We know God is a source of strength A ready Helper when troubles arise So in earthquakes we will not fear Or when planets fall down from starry skies Though the waters might roar and foam And highest mountains collapse in their swell There’s a river whose streams Make glad the city of God The holy place where the Holy One dwells The Almighty will stand by us The God of Jacob is like a fortress Come and see all Jehovah’s works Desolations He brought upon the earth And He’ll make all the warfare cease And make the weapons be gone, so there’s peace So be still and you’ll know The Lord alone, He is God He’ll be exalted across the whole earth

Escape Rupert Holmes looks for a perfect church © 2005 by David J. Landegent

I was tired of my old church I’d been a member too long Like a worn-out recording Of a favorite song So while its saints were sleeping And acting like they were dead I made a private decision I wanted better instead

I wanna sing hallelujah And seek the lost in His name Cuz I’m NOT into rituals Or some le–galist claim Oh, I like praise that isn’t uptight With good news– of His grace Oh, that’s the church that I look for Can there be– such a place? brief interlude

I didn't think about my old church I know that sounds– kind of mean But me and my old church now Had fallen into the same old dull routine So I wrote to the paper Took out a personal ad And though I'm nobody's poet I thought it wasn't half bad

“You wanna sing hallelujah? And seek the lost in His name? If you’re NOT into rituals Or some legalist claim – I’d like to meet you by tomorrow noon The Corner Diner’s the place Start a church that’s on fire Get our plans– into shape” brief interlude

So I waited with high hopes When they walked in the place I knew their smiles in an instant I knew their ser-vice and faith It was my own church’s members And they said, “Oh, it’s you” And we laughed for a moment And I said, “I never knew

You wanna sing hallelujahs And seek the lost in His name With a zeal and devotion And a faith– unashamed If you like praise that isn’t uptight With good news– of His grace Oh, that’s the church that I look for

Let us be– such a place” brief interlude, chorus ab…

At Seventeen Janis Ian is beautiful in God’s eyes © 2005 by David J. Landegent

I learned the truth at seventeen That love was meant for beauty queens And high school girls with clear skinned smiles Who married young and then retired. The valentines I never knew The Friday night charades of youth Were spent on one more beautiful At seventeen I learned the truth.

And those of us with ravaged faces Lacking in the social graces Desperately remained at home Inventing lovers on the phone Who called to say, “Come dance with me” And offered on-ly fantasy It isn't all it seems – at seventeen.

A brown-eyed girl in hand-me-downs Whose name I never could pronounce Said, “Come to Je–sus and you’ll learn Of love that no one could– deserve Oh, He’ll give salvation and redeem, Offers everything you need With a guarantee of company And heaven for eternity

Remember those who win the game Lose the love they sought to gain So leave behind frivolity And dubious integrity For Jesus Christ will make you new In Paradise – you’ll see the truth Believe and you’ll receive – at seventeen interlude

He calls to us who knew the pain Of valentines that never came, And those whose names were never called When choosing sides for basketball. It was long ago and far away The Lord– of all would bear our shame And speak, “You’re beautiful indeed” To ugly duckling girls like me.

I was saved by grace right then in prayer And cast myself on Jesus’ care In joining others at the throne

I am no longer all alone He called and said, “Come, dance with me” In beauty, you’re My bride-to-be” He loves the girls like me – at seventeen

If trusting You is wrong, I don't wanna be right If trusting You is wrong, I don't wanna be right

When I heard Your call So quickly I followed You

Brandy Looking Glass focuses on Jesus’ call of Andrew © 2000 by David J. Landegent.

There’s a port on a western bay And it serves a hundred ships a day Lonely sailors pass the time away And wonder what life’s for There’s a man in this harbor town And he works – till the fish are found Call him Andrew, let there be no doubt

Will he be fishin’ for life?

The sailors say “Andrew, it’s a fine world What a good life on the sea What more– could a–ny sailor – wanna be?

Andrew, fixin’ nets one day Saw a holy preacher come and walk his way He’s stoppin’ and He said his name He commanded Andrew “Come” He left – on that very day Droppin’ nets – he walked away Left his fishin’ gear, he couldn’t stay He heard his Lord say “Come”

The Savior said, “Andrew, I am callin’ (I am callin’) My disciple, you will be (I am callin’) Give your life, your ship and your sailing Up for me” (doo-doo-doo-doo…)

Andrew used to watch His eyes When He told His kingdom stories Saw Him heal the sick and make ‘em rise He saw the Savior’s glory And Andrew always shared the truth For he was a gen’rous man Andrew helps the rest to understand His life – is the Master’s now Andrew preaches from town to town He once was lost, but now He’s found He still can hear Him say

He hears Him say, “Andrew, I am callin’ (I am callin’) My disciple, you will be (I am callin’) Give your life, your ship and your sailing Up for me” (doo-doo-doo-doo…)

Torn Between Two Lovers Mary MacGregor must decide between God & money © 2005 by David J. Landegent

There are times– when we sinners Must confess what’s in our life Even though we know how much it’s gonna hurt Before I say another word, Let me tell you, “I’m untrue” And confess to you I’ve played the game of grabbing all I can I’ve been a greedy one And it’s money – that I loved And that surely means I loved God less But the goods of life possessed me And they seized my very will There’s just this empty place inside of me That money seemed to fill

Torn between two masters, livin’ like a fool Serving God alone or Mammon, I must choose Torn between two masters, livin’ like a fool Lovin’ ‘em both – impossible to do

You mustn’t be complacent Just because you have your wealth Is it your one real love – this stuff you have? And all the things you ever said To God, are they still true? For God and wealth can’t share your heart There’s only one to choose

chorus If your money claims you Then you’ll turn and walk away But with everything you must decide To follow God today

So when you falter as the music starts to play And your ability to reason – is swept away Oh~ heaven on earth is all you see; You're out of touch with reality And now you cry, but when you do The Lord God’s around helping you get through

Though you’re feelin’ like a fool (this time) There’s hope from heaven; Jesus rules (Listen, people) The Lord can patch you up, fix you too (I wanna say it again) Heal what’s broke and make it new (Listen to me, people) Though you’re feelin’ like a fool (this time) There’s hope from heaven; Jesus rules (Up in heaven Jesus rules)

The Night Chicago Died Paper Lace celebrates Passover © 2006 by David J. Landegent

Cryin’ out to God – They were held by– the Egyptians Back when the Jews were slaves Back in the bad old days In the heat of a summer night~ When the Lord broke the Pharaoh’s will In the land of Egyptian pride~ Well, they talk about it still When the Lord upon the throne Said to Pharaoh, “Let them go” And He sent ten plagues in all But the Pharaoh only stalled

I heard the Pharaoh cry I heard him cry the night the firstborn died Brother, what a night it really was Every Israelite would learn to trust Glory be! I heard the Pharaoh cry I heard him cry the night the firstborn died In the morning light the people saw How the Lord of life did miracles Yes, indeed!

And the sound of the grieving rang~ Through the streets when the firstborn died But the people of Yahweh sang~ All because they’re safe inside They applied the blood of lambs On the doorways and the jambs So the angel passed right by And the folks inside didn’t die

chorus a

But the terror soon would fall~ When the midnight angel called – Then the Lord broke open wide All the chains of Pharaoh’s pride And the Jews were no more slaves And they left the land that day

The night the firstborn died (Hallelu, hallelujah to the Lord of life) The night the firstborn died In the morning light the people saw How the Lord of life did miracles Yes, indeed! chorus bb

Hal–lelujah, sing hallelujah, hal–lelu~jah I'm sleeping And right in the middle of a good dream Like all at once I wake up From something that keeps knocking at my brain Before I go insane, I hold my pillow to my head And spring up in my bed Screaming out the words I dread: “The Father loves you” (the Father loves you) This morning, I woke up with this feeling I didn't know how to deal with And so I just decided to myself I'd hide it from myself And never talk about it And didn't I start to doubt it Till the knocking had resumed “The Father loves you” (the Father loves you)

“The Father loves you” So what am I so afraid of I’m afraid that I’m not sure of A love there is no cure for “The Father loves you” Isn’t that what life is made of Though it worries me to say That the Father wants to save interlude

I don’t know what I’m up against I don’t know what it’s all about I’ve got so much to think about – hey–

(The Father loves you!) The Father loves you! (The Father loves you!) The Father loves you! (The Father loves you!) The Father loves you! (The Father loves you!)

When I realized the reality gave me a roll If things are the same Then explain why your faith is so cold And that mist in your eyes Comes from evil desires – in your soul You’re lyin’ & dyin’, your evil is gettin’ nowhere It don’t stack up, you’ll crack up, so back up The Lord still cares Don’t let this old world get you, or pull you down Don't you drown When your dream boat runs onto the ground

interlude I'd just like to know Are you sad with no God in your life You’re stuck in the past With your fast-flowing bitter-sweet lies. You'll face the after taste When you come home late some night. With your eyes all amist From the smoke of the de–vil’s fire. Oh your eyes have a mist From the smoke of devil’s fire. (Well your eyes have a mist From the smoke of the devil’s fire) Your eyes have the mist From the smoke of the devil’s fire. (Well, your eyes have a mist From the smoke of the devil’s fire) Oh your eyes have a mist From the smoke of the devil’s fire. (Mist in your eyes from the devil’s fire) Oh, your eyes have a mist

Emotion Samantha Sang sings her lament to God © 2006 by David J. Landegent

I’m feelin’ so glum And the heartache lives on inside, oh Lord, You’re the One I’m clinging to I wanna see – Your light

But where are you now Now that I need You Tears on my pillow – wherever I go I cry me a river – when reading devotions You’re gonna see me fall apart In the words of a broken heart

It's just emotion that's taken me over Tied up in sorrow, lost in my soul But if You don't come down To comfort my sorrow Lord, have mercy Come to me, Lord, With Your Word to show the light Come to me, Lord With Your Word to make it right

Oh why, oh why, oh why – Lord, why? Come here by my side And be the kind of God You are But I’ve been alone, all by myself I’ve got to find a brand new start

13 Questions Seatrain keeps their eye on Jesus, not theology © 2006 by David J. Landegent

Deep in the darkest hour of a very heavy week Three preachers did confront me, And I could hardly speak. They met me in a hurry, They left me tired and sore, And when I'm fit for wishing I hope they'll come no more. When I'm wishing, I hope they'll come no more~ Standing by the exit, with one eye on the door, I listened to them argue. I asked them, "Why? What for?" Exposing every error that’s theological They’re askin’ empty questions

Each one an endless hole. Empty questions, each an endless hole~

Focus on the one true Light Jesus the Lord of all~ You should believe the one true Light He’s the Lord of – one and all– interlude, chorus

You’re Only Lonely J. D. Souther hears God’s call to the lonely © 2006 by David J. Landegent

When the world is ready to fall On your little shoulders, And when you're feeling lonely and small You need somebody to uphold you.

You can call out My name When you're only lonely, Now, don't you ever be ashamed, You're only lonely

When you need somebody around In the times that try you I’ll be there for you in your need And I'll be the last one there beside you.

So you can call out My name When you're only lonely. Now, don't you ever be ashamed You're only lonely

(You’re only lonely, you’re only lonely) (You’re only lonely – ooh–)

verse 1

So don't you ever be ashamed, You're only lonely. Ah~ you can call out My name When you're only lonely

Spiders and Snakes Jim Stafford recounts the Fall © 2006 by David J. Landegent

Oh, the Serpent was very shrewd Said, “You wanna know some other food?” Well, Eve said – “Yes, I do” He said, “I know what can help you know Though God has said you gotta leave alone Makes you wonder” – she said, “Me too” And so they took a stroll Wound up down by a dangerous grove And he said, "Do what you want to do Don’t be silly, you can be like God Never dyin’ and you’ll know it all” He was talkin’ to her And he said, "This fruit’s for you"

She said, “Why don’t I follow the Snake? This fruit’s got what it takes To change me – it’s good for food Why don’t I follow the Snake? This fruit’s got what it takes – to change me Oh, I wanna be god, don’t you?”

Well, the Serpent said, “Girl, you will not die God made it up, and it’s just a lie So just go– for it” – she said, “It looks good” So – she ate right there and then And brought the fruit to have her husband join in They did what’s evil – like some fools They would try to hide for awhile

When they did wrong, they were defiled Then God said, “Come on over here” They were nervous as you might guess They’re makin’ excuses for makin’ a mess And God said, “Let’s make this perfectly clear”

He said, “Why did you follow the Snake? This fruit’s got what it takes To turn you – into some fools Why did You follow the Snake? This fruit’s got what it takes – to turn you From the life I had planned for you”

Everything is Beautiful Ray Stevens preaches against racism © 2006 by David J. Landegent

Jesus loves the little children, All the little children of the world Red and yellow, black and white, They are precious in his sight Jesus loves the little children of the world

Everything is beautiful in its own way Like a starry summer night Or a snow covered winter's day Everybody's beautiful in their own way Under God's heaven The Lord’s gonna show the way

There is none so blind as he who will not see We must not close our minds, We must let all folks be free For every hour that passes by You know the world gets a little bit colder It's time to realize that beauty lies In the eyes of the Beholder

Everything is beautiful in its own way Like a starry summer night Or a snow covered winter's day Ah– sing it children Everybody's beautiful in their own way Under God's heaven The Lord’s gonna show the way

We shouldn't care about the length of his hair Or the color of his skin Don't worry about what shows from without But the love that lives within We gotta get it all– together now If we trust in the Lord for light Just take a little time To get on the Lord’s side, my friend He’ll straighten it out in your mind

chorus a He’s the ON-ly Lord, who is really good (Yes, the Lord is good–) I’m believing in His love upon the cross of wood (The cross of wood–) All my sorry fears – seem to fly away (Seem to fly away–) And He called to me, so now I say:

Love Story Theme Andy Williams sings of the glory of the gospel story © 2006 by David J. Landegent

Where do I begin To tell the story of how great a love can be The gospel story that is older than the sea The simple truth about the Lord who died for me Where do I start With the cross of love He gave new meaning to this empty world of mine There’d never be a greater love that’s so divine He came into my life and made me justified

He fills my heart He fills my heart with every blessed thing With angels’ songs, beyond imagining He fills my soul with so much love That anywhere I go, I’m never lonely With Him around, who could be lonely I live in His hands, He’s always there Look upon the cross Can love be measured by the hours in a day I have no answers now, but this much I can say I will believe Him though the stars all burn away For He’ll be there

O Lord— bless all the hungry – O Lord— O Lord— bless all the hungry – O Lord—

If you hear ‘em prowling around your kitchen door Better feed all the kids Whether its cooked or refrigerated, They’ll take bites Bless all the hungry again
