Journal Entries from an Animist

These are journal entries that were found in ruins of an Indian Tribe. It is believed that the person who wrote these entries was an animist. This is the only page that was possible to be translated by historians. Other pages have been heavily damaged making it impossible to read.

5/6

This day is the first day I will start my journey so that I will find my power animal. I do not know which animal is my power animal. All of my closest friends have found theirs but mine has not appeared to me. I made this journal so that I can keep track of how many days until I find it. I hope it appears to me really soon.

5/8

Today is the day of my journey but I knew that my power animal wouldn’t appear right away. I went to go talk to the chief about finding my animal. He said that he would help tomorrow because it was getting

late when I asked why and he said he needs to go help with the hunting.

5/9I went to go help my fellow tribe members the next day when they returned back with all the game. After that I went searching for the chief but could not find him. I asked around and they told me he was still out hunting. I asked how long it would be until he came back and they said a day or two. I was a little disappointed but I can wait a day or two.

5/12

It’s been three days until they finally came back. I went up to one of the hunters and asked if they have seen the chief. He told me that the chief would be waiting for me at the pond. I ran as quickly as I can towards the pond and found him sitting on a rock in the middle of the pond facing the sunset. I walked up to the edge of the pond and asked if he could still help me figure out my power animal. The chief turned and looked at a totem that was standing right next to me that I didn't notice at first. He told me to think about the last couple of nights and what I dreamed about. I thought back into my dreams trying to see what the same in all of them was. I found that a fox kept appearing in my dreams. I told him of what I saw and he said that’s my spirit animal. Fox stands for cunning, slyness, and stealth. I didn’t know that you find your power animal by dreaming. Now that I got my power animal I don't feel so left out in the tribe. I told the chief thank you for your wisdom and then I went back to the camp. I was hoping for an eagle but it’s better than nothing. Now I have my power animal. I’m

not the only one with this power animal so I will see how things turn out.

"How do mythology, folklore, and religion shape culture?

Sikhism follower’s shape their culture by believing that everyone is the same and everyone should be treated the same. They believe in one god who has no form or gender. They know that everyone has a spirit even if they're poor or rich, high and low, race, sex, religion and nationality. The Sikh Temple Gurudwara is always open for anyone if they want to become a Sikhs. So to believe in one god who has no form and knowing that every has a soul and anybody can become a Sikhism shows that they believe everyone is the same. No one is treated differently in their culture meaning no one is left out of spiritual traditions.Reference Book: Sikh Religion by Sikh Missionary Center
