Replying to Narendra Patil’s calling attention notice, Patil had, on July 28, said since incorrect in- formation on Shetye’s post-mor- tem was submitted to the compe- tent authority, the medical officer concerned would be suspended immediately. According to reports, while there were multiple injuries on the Shetye’s body and Roke had submitted a report saying no obvious external injuries noted. Earlier, JJ dean Dr TP Lahane had told TOI that Roke had not commented on the nature of inju- ries as the patient was “brought dead” to the hospital. “He simply noted that she had no grievous in- jury and sent the body for an au- topsy as per protocol,” Dr Lahane had told TOI. Roke was appointed a tempo- rary medical officer for 120 days from June 15 to October 21. By and large, once an announ- cement is made in the House, it is implemented immediately irre- spective of the fact that whether the information has been recei- ved by the department or other- wise, but in case of Roke, it was delayed by 15 days. On Wednesday, when TOI so- ught information from Patil on the prolonged delay in Roke’s su- spension, a shocked Patil said he was surprised over the non-imp- lementation of the assurance gi- ven on the floor of the House. “Su- spension orders of erring jail offi- cials have already been issued. I will check the status of case with the medical education depart- ment,’’ he said. Shetye, who was lodged in the Byculla jail, was brought dead to JJ Hospital on June 23. It was alle- ged that all efforts were made to suppress specific information on the cause of death and whether she was beaten up in jail. In fact, then DIG (prisons) Swati Sathe, too, was at the receiving end for sending controversial messages supporting the suspended jail staffers on WhatsApp. Following a series of complaints, CM De- vendra Fadnavis on Wednesday appointed Konkan divisional commissioner Jagdish Patil to probe charges against Sathe and submit a report within a month. He will probe if she had exceeded her brief while sharing messages on the WhatsApp group.
