Leadership Plenary | Can we do better than 2°C? The recent landmark Paris climate change agreement adopted by 195 nations at COP 21 marks the beginning of the era where countries work towards their determined climate targets. It is of little doubt that upstream leadership in driving sustainable buildings and mind-set changes with the cornerstone of every national climate change strategy, as the building sector contributes as much as one third of the total greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. Yet, questions remain – how can buildings adopt and mitigate climate change? How can we move towards net-zero energy and carbon-neutral buildings? Can we do better than 2°C?

Spotlight Plenary | Is the Sky Our Limit?Technology will continue to disrupt and cross-cut every dimension of our lives. The building sector will not be an exception. Today’s novel building technologies (i.e. responsive building materials & smart analytics) and innovative building design (i.e. well-being) may become the norm in the future.

Closing Plenary | Build Green: The Next Decade

This session brings back the various speakers from the different IGBC plenaries and tracks over the past 2 days and concludes the conference. The session strives to accelerate the transformative evolution of our green building movement to shape a sustainable future for generations to come.

[Sponsored by Daikin Airconditioning (Singapore) Pte Ltd]

This workshop provides a detailed introduction to the Green Mark 2016 scheme. Building upon Green Mark 2015, leveraging on more than 10 years of experience and having more than 2,700 building projects meeting Green Mark standard, Green Mark 2016 is the latest version of BCA's rating tool for new residential buildings. The 5th incarnation of the Green Mark Scheme Green Mark 2016 assesses the outcomes of the green residential building design processes and ultimately align themselves with best corporate practices. Similar to Green Mark 2015, Green Mark 2016 brings the focus of sustainability into the early stages of project development, through the construction phase, and finally building operations stage. The latest set of criteria guides building owners towards the driving of ambitious but achievable sustainable targets and total building performance.

With the criteria into the final stages of its piloting, it will be soon before the new Green Mark 2015 will be applicable to all new non-residential projects in Singapore. This workshop, shares on best practice essential strategies to excel in the new scheme while staying cost and time efficient. Once you’ve mastered these tactics, you will find that designing a green building is not only simpler than it sounds, but an enjoyable and rewarding process, too!

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore champions the development of an excellent built environment for Singapore. BCA’s mission is to shape a safe, high quality, sustainable and friendly built environment, as these are four key elements where BCA has a significant influence. In doing so, it aims to differentiate Singapore’s built environment from those of other cities

The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) was officially launched on 28 October 2009, as the only non-profit organisation with a concerted private-public sector partnership to achieve a world-class and sustainable built-environment in Singapore. Our key role is to advocate green building design, practices and technologies and drive environmental sustainability in the building and construction industry.

• Full-day competition for students from local Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs)Drawing inspiration from the popular Korean drama, "Build Green: Student Edition 2016 - Descendants of the Stars” a full-day competition for students at local IHLs, where they will undertake various activities enabling them to learn more about sustainability.

• Half-day programme for Secondary School studentsThe Secondary School students will embark on an exploratory learning journey which includes an exclusive green tour of Marina Bay Sands.

Build Green: Student Edition 2016 is back again this year with a new focus: Greening Schools. It aims to educate youths on sustainability in the built environment through fun and games, where participants can learn how sustainability can be incorporated in schools.

To be held on 7 September 2016 at the Marina Bay Sands, the Build Green: Student Edition 2016 comprises two key components, and is free for all eligible students.

Back in its 8th year, the Singapore Green Building Week (SGBW) will be an exciting week which plays host to international green building experts, policy-makers, academics, built environment practitioners, tenants and end-users, including members of the public and students. Throughout the week, there will be a congregation of ideas, collaboration, partnership and learning with the aim of achieving a shared vision of a more sustainable built environment in years to come.
