Siempre Adelante! Nunca para atras! Always Forward! Never turn back! These were the words that Fr. Junipero Serra used as a motto as he founded the Missions here in California. With these same words we move forward as a parish. I would like to personally thank Fr. Steve Davoren for his seven years of ministry at Our Lady of the Assumption as its pastor. If I dare use one word to define his accomplishments here at the parish, the word I would use is inspirational. For all of us here who have been served by Fr. Steve’s ministry, he has truly served as an inspiration of how to love the Lord and how to wit-ness the Lord’s love to each other. Although he will truly be missed, he will not be forgotten. We will continue to pray for his ongoing ministry of fostering and encouraging vocations especially to the priesthood to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. That same zeal and dedication that he constantly has lived with his priesthood, will now serve as the great inspiration in his new role as Vocation Director. No pressure, Fr. Steve! Just as so many of us experi-enced his support in our times of need and joy, so now do we continue to pledge to support him with our prayers and ongoing endeavors to support vocations to the Church. We will speak more on this later! With Fr. Steve’s departure, I want to introduce the two priests that will be here beginning July 1st. Many of you may recog-nize the familiar face of Fr. Chris Owczarek. Fr. Chris is from the Salesian Religious Order, working in the Semi-nary in Africa. Fr. Chris was a delight to have last year and he will once again join us for the summer to assist us at the parish until the early part of August. He is celebrat-ing his 25th Anniversary of priesthood this year, so we feel especially honored to celebrate with him this special year! The other priest may be a new face to many of you. His name is Fr. Adalberto Blanco, Fr. Beto for short. This dedicated, humble priest was ordained to the Arch-diocese of Los Angeles in 1977. Born in Mexico, Fr. Beto is very familiar with Ventura County, having attended St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo and served in the parish in Carpinteria for many years. He will be assigned here as the new associate pastor. He will be assisting us in both in English and Spanish. Please help me to welcome both of these priests to our parish. They will be here on June 30th/ July 1st to celebrate the Masses. I will miss their arrival since I will be in Rome for a week, viewing the Vatican Secret Archives, which are only open to the pub-lic until September. I will be returning to the parish on the 5th of July. Have a blessed and safe 4th of July. Take care and God bless, Fr. Steve Correz

—–——— Safeguard The Children ——–—— The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the par-ishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sex-ual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment poli-cies, procedures and resources.

Click on http://www.archdiocese.la/protecting/ for more information.

All volunteers working with or around children must be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese and certified in the Safeguard the Children Program Protecting God’s Chil-dren. Information for both fingerprinting and Safeguard Classes are listed below. The Virtus training must be updated every 4 years. However, instead of the 3-hour Protecting God's Children program, people can recertify by completing the 1.5 hour Keeping the Promise Alive program. Fingerprinting does not need to be repeated.”

———————Did You Know?—————-—- Safety tips for children traveling alone Take time to discuss appropriate behavior with your child before he or she boards an airplane alone. If another passenger acts in an inappropriate way, be sure that your child knows to inform a flight attendant or other airline representative. Inappropriate behavior on the part of other passengers includes rude, offensive, or threatening comments; inappropriate touching; inappropriate conver-sations; taking food or other items away from the child; or other behavior that makes the child uncomfortable or fearful. In addition, inappropriate behavior would include any attempt to elicit personal information about the child. Make sure that you child understands that no passenger they meet needs to know things such as their full name, their home address, their telephone number, or where they are going. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

————-Secular Franciscan Order——–—--

St. Francis established the Order of Brothers and Sisters of Penance, now the Secular Francis-can Order (SFO), for those men and women, single or married, who were unable to leave their families and occupations, but still wanted to be affiliated with St. Francis and a religious life. The SFO is a recognized order within the Catholic Church, not a club or organization. Secular Franciscans are men and women who answer the call to follow Christ more deeply through the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi. It all begins with a nudge from the Holy Spirit! We meet the third Sunday of every month from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. We share in prayer, discussions of spiritual and secular material and fellowship. We also work on individ-ual and group service projects. We meet at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in the Parish Center and wel-come visitors to any of our gatherings!

Our next gathering will take place on July 15th

Love God and love your family cherish each of the good times be patient when the trials come. And they indeed will come. Stay close to the heart of Christ Jesus. He will stay close to you. New Restroom Project

Thank you to the 207 families who have already contributed to our New Restroom Project. To date we have collected $46,762! Our goal is to have 100% participation to help us reach the total cost of $250,000 for the project. If each of our 3098 households contributed just $80.70 we would reach our goal! Please contact Lau-ren in the business office at 642-7966 ext. 101 to make payment arrangements or donate with a credit card if you choose to do so. Thank you again for your participation!

Please help in any way you can. No donation is too small - or too big! Improvements will include: ∗ New ADA compliant men's and

women's restrooms will be con-structed along the west side of the church building.

∗ Construction planned to start this summer and take approximately 3 months to complete.

∗ Estimated construction cost is $250,000

∗ Special donation envelopes are avail-able, or you can make your donation at the parish office.

∗ More information will be available at Mass, in the bulletin and on our web site at www.olaventura.com

CARTA PASTORAL ¡Siempre Adelante!
