was officially established in 1995 by the Chapter of The Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land.

The main goal of the Institute is to train and prepare musicians to sing and play music in the Holy Places, and to offer musical education of high quality to all communities present in the Holy Land, and other churches of the Holy Land.

s varied subjects, such as, but not limited to, piano, violin, cello, organ, flute, guitar, voice training, percussion, oboe, bassoon and music composition.

There are a number of disciplines connected to this program: solfege, recorder, harmony, music history, and choir practice in one of the three choirs of the Institute.

The Magnificat Institute has an international team of teachers; all of them have academic studies as background and solid didactic experience. The students are approximately 250, ranging from the propaedeutic level to the 10 year courses of musical studies.

The Piano Competition which launched in1998 and continues to date.

COMPETITION REGULATIONS

Art. 1- The Magnificat Institute of Jerusalem hereby announces the regulations of the 6th Magnificat String Competition (MSC).

Art. 2 - The Magnificat String Competition (violin, viola, cello, and guitar) has the intended goal of promoting musical culture and of encouraging young people to study strings instruments as well as other music instruments.

Art. 3 - The competition will take place at the Magnificat Institute at the “St. Saviours’ Immaculata Hall”. The Auditions will be on the 12th of December, 2014, and the Winners Concert will be on the 13th of December, 2014.

Art. 4 - Participation in the MSC is open to all students of the Magnificat Institute and the Palestinian Music Schools who, according to the suggestion of their teachers, are in a position to perform the obligatory piece and a freely chosen piece.

SECTIONS AND CATEGORIES

Art. 5 - The competition is divided in categories, according to the following table. Each student can choose his/her category, if his/her technical and artistic preparation permits them to perform the obligatory piece of the respective category.

Art. 6 - Application fees are 50 nis for each category.

AUDITIONS

Art. 7 - The competitors of each category, before playing their own freely chosen piece, must per-form the obligatory piece connected with the category.

Art. 8 - Auditions are public.

Art. 9 - Prizes will be awarded according to the following table:

A prize of 4,000 NIS (to be equally distributed between the performers) will assigned to the competitors who will perform a free piece in duo or trio with guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe and bassoon. The piano can accompany.

If two competitors receive an equal rank, the prize in that category will be divided between them.

Art.10 - All the participants, at the end of the final concert on December 13th 2014, at 6 p.m. will receive certificate, an artistic handcraft, and the won prize. The winners’ teachers will also receive a symbolic gift.

Art.11 - The winner who for whatever reason will not play at final concert will lose his/her right to the prize. The other Participants, who for whatever reason will not attend the final concert, will not receive nor the prize nor the artistic prize.

THE JURY

Art. 12 –The jury is formed of the international team of five teachers and concert artists of Cello, Viola, Violin, and Guitar. The president of the jury is the Director of the Magnificat Institute or his/her representative; he/she will not give marks in the jury’s evaluations.Art. 13 – The judgment of the Jury is definitive. The Jury can stop the performance of a piece and/or request that a piece be played another time.

The Jury expresses its judgments with marks ranging between one and ten; in the calculation of the average, the highest and the lowest mark will not be counted.The Jury is free not to assign a first prize, second prize or third prize

1. The Magnificat Institute is authorized to freely use (free of cost) images of its students and teachers for its publications and communications (posters, advertising, brochures, programs, websites, press release, internet, invitations, fund raising, etc..)

2. The Magnificat organizes concerts and other musical and cultural activities involving students and their professors (Piano Competition, Magnificat String Competi-tion, Magic Lamp, MOM Festival, Farewell Concerts, concerts in and out of Jerusalem and other Places and locations). Students and professors give authorization to the Magnificat to freely use (free of cost) audio and video recordings of the above mentioned events in the Institute’s com-munications, publications, and productions (website, internet, You Tube and other social networks, CDs, DVDs and other audio and video productions, fundraising, press release, etc.)
