The leading nutrition CME conference in the United States, our annual Nutrition & Health conference was initiated by Dr. Andrew Weil and Dr. Fredi Kronenberg in 2004 to educate the healthcare community. Sponsored by the Arizona Health Sciences Center at the University of Arizona and presented by the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, the conference presents the latest scientific and clinical evidence regarding nutrition, and examines the benefits and risks of nutritional recommendations for specific health conditions. Rationale Nutrition is an important part of the treatment for five of the top ten most common diseases in the U.S., yet health care professionals receive limited, if any, nutrition education. Medical education does not keep pace with advances in nutrition science and therapeutic innovations. Physicians are often unaware of the latest findings on diet and health and, therefore, are unable to advise patients on how to use dietary change as a treatment strategy in the management of disease. Faculty Our faculty members are leaders in scientific research, skilled clinicians, directors of major academic nutrition programs, experts in agricultural policy and innovative chefs. In addition to Dr. Weil, the 2009 faculty includes Walter Willett, MD, DrPH, Harvard University School of Public Health; E. David Heber, MD, PhD, University of California, Los Angeles; David Katz, MD, MPH, Yale University School of Medicine; and Tieraona Low Dog, MD, Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. Audience The majority of attendees are physicians, followed by registered dietitians and nurses. Attendees come from all over the country; last year, 38 states were represented, as well as 6 foreign countries. Based upon our packed audiences in previous years, we anticipate over 600 attendees from the medical community in our sixth year.
