In 1968, the Van Dyke Plant opened and began producing front suspension products including the upper and lower control arms.
First transmission program; AX4N (4F50N) transmission built from 1993 to 2006
FN (4F27E) transmission launched in 1999 6F (6F50) transmission launched in 2006 6F Mid Range (6F35) transmission launched in
2008 6F (6F55) transmission launched in 2009 HF35 / 6F35 expansion launching in 2011-2012 In 2012, Van Dyke was Best in Ford (BIF) for Energy
and Hydrocarbon usage per unit In 2013, became Ford’s first North American zero
waste-to-landfill transmission plant and now diverts a total of 15 tons of waste-from-landfill monthly.
2013 - Largest Global Supplier of Transmissions Targeted to produce 1.8M transmissions in 2013.
To support this requirement the plant has multiple Alternate Work Schedules (AWS).

6F Transmission A conventional six-speed automatic transmission Upgraded clutches feature high-energy friction material that can handle the higher loads and shi energy of the EcoBoost engine (6F55) to allow
better fuel eciency. Thicker transmission case and wider final drive
gears were incorporated to match the higher performance of the EcoBoost engine.
FN Transmission
HF 35 Transmission Ford engineered the HF35 with a
goal of creating the industry’s highest-performing, smoothest-operating hybrid transmission.
Electric motors capable of operating at higher electric speeds
A super-ecient new cooling system that enables higher speeds in electric drive
Optimized gear ratios enabling improvement in fuel economy
More precise controls to deliver higher levels of refinement as the powertrain transitions between engine and electric drive
“We eciently provide high quality transmissions to worldwide assembly plants so that Ford can deliver superior value to customers while achieving competitive margins.”
– VDTP Mission Statement
6FM Transmission Optimized for improved
drivability & fuel economy Large gear ratio span maximizes performance Fuel ecient pumps Reduced mechanical losses Smoother shiing Select-Shi Functionality gives customers
the control they want Grade assist improves the drivability of
transmission in hilly terrain
•Reduced weight to help increase fuel economy
