M O T I V A T I N G ! The CVMA Convention offers RVT’s an opportunity that is NOT available at any other veterinary convention. The CVMA Emerging Leaders Program, now its 7th year, was originally designed for DVMs, but it is now open to veterinary technicians. The two half-day workshop (July 7 afternoon and July 8 morning), provides a unique opportunity to explore your personal and professional accomplishments. The program will change the way you work and how you think about work.

Nadine Schueller, RVT from Saskatchewan, was an ELP participant in 2015. She says: “It is no exaggeration to say that Dr. Rick DeBowes and the ELP experience was transformative — both professionally and personally. Dr. DeBowes focused on the team approach and made each person in that room realize that they were a leader, whether they were a DVM, RVT or kennel cleaner. We all have important jobs! This workshop will long remain a high point of my life, and I highly recommend it to all other veterinary technologists. I went home empowered.”

E X C I T I N G !Think you know Niagara Falls, Ontario? Think again. Scenic Niagara Falls offers much to see and do. Experience the Falls with the legendary Hornblower boat, North America’s oldest attraction wowing millions of visitors since 1846. Or Journey Behind the Falls and traverse tunnels bored into rock behind the great sheet of water for a thunderous close-up view. The sight of the roaring water makes getting wet worth it! For amazing views, you can zip up to the top of the Skylon Tower or ride the Skywheel. And for the more adventurous, check out Niagara Helicopter tours.

Explore Clifton Hill, the world famous ”Street of Fun” by the Falls with wax museums, arcades, themed restaurants, haunted houses and more.

Discover the best of the region’s more than 50 vineyards by following the Wine Route of Ontario through the country-side by car, bike or guided tour. Restau-rant options are abound and Niagara Falls is home to Jamie Kennedy’s Windows Restau-rant and Massimo Capra’s The Rain-bow Room. The picturesque town of Niagara- on-the-Lake, home of the Shaw Festival, is also a short ride away.

A c c o m m o d a t i o n s at the Sheraton on the Falls hotel offer spacious guestrooms and suites with amaz-ing Falls views.

I N S P I R I N G ! The Registered Veterinary Technicians and Technologists of Canada (RVTTC) and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) invite you to experience something new in Niagara Falls this July!

The 2016 CVMA Convention, July 7–10, offers over 118 CE credits of which more than 80% are relevant for RVT’s so you can earn up to 28 CE credits. Over 35 speakers will present sessions in companion and large animal, ruminant, equine, bovine, practice management and animal welfare tracks. Disciplines include dentistry, soft issue surgery, anesthesia and pain management, dermatology and more.

On Thursday, July 7, take advantage of lectures and/or labs dealing with CPR and emergency procedures being taught by expert veterinary technician specialist and educator David Liss, BA, RVT, VTS (ECC, SAIM), CVPM. David has worked for many years in general practice and emergency facilities. He will be presenting two lectures — “ECC FUNdamentals: The Basic of Shock and Triage” and “Train Wrecks and Car Crashes: ECC Disaster Cases!” which are open to all registered RVT’s. Then, get hands-on training with David, in two labs aimed at veterinary technicians: “CPR for Veterinary Technicians and Emergency Procedures for Veterinary Technicians.“ Additional fees apply for the labs.
