Please read this instruction manual and all other auxiliary materials carefullybefore installing and using the product, which will be helpful to work with it better.

■ Product InstructionRWD 68900 series large animal stereotaxic instruments, which is an important

apparatus and is widely used for research on neuroanatomy, neurophysiology,neuropharmacology, neurosurgery and so on, could be applied to the animal cerebrallocalization before electrical stimulating, injecting, signal recording, brain lesionmaking and some other experiments like this, and to build neurogenic diseasemodels in animals so as to study the effect of pharmacology on animal cognition,behavior etc.

■ Feature & Characteristics☆ Could working with dog, monkey & pig size animals. By cooperate with multiple

adaptors.☆ Parallel rail-mounted frame provide brilliant performance and flexibility, could

fasten on the baseboard for on the table directly.☆ Unique palatine fix adapter, fit for headlock of different weight animals.☆ Characteristic design rotatable mounting bracket, provide 360º rotation

horizontally and absolutely locking at any position, applicable to various angleoperation.

☆ Up to 6 manipulator arms could set on the two parallel pathways, providemultiple independent operations on one animal.

☆ Orbit range: 200mm(-100mm ~ +100mm), with the accuracy of 100micrometer.

☆ By cooperate with standard two-dimension manipulator arm, to achieve 180ºrotation vertically and 360º rotation horizontally.

☆ Vernier caliper reading for manipulator arms three-dimensional coordinates,with the accuracy of 10 micrometer.

☆ Able to compatible with microsyringe pump, with the accuracy of 10micrometer.

■ Installation1. Carefully unpacking the shipping box followed by carefully reading the operation

manual and check the components are complete and undamaged, if missing,damaged or defective components are found, please contact RWD and shippingcarrier immediately.

2. Place the baseboard (1) on table after unpacking, insert the support rod into the

baseboard, then tighten the locking screw.

3. Install the U-frame component (6) onto support rod, and tighten the locking

screw (4).

4. Install the adapter (5) onto the guide rail component(for some products,

pre-install had been completed).

5. Insert the support component (8) into the guide rail, and tighten by the locking

screw (7).

6. carefully attach the “+” manipulator arm (9) onto the protractor, and align the

protractor base scale “0” to the vertical line “∣ ” followed by tightening the

locking screw (10) by rotating it clockwise.

7. base of back and forth manipulator arm(Y-arm)

8. Ear rod (12) located under the guide rail fix block(13), the holder(11) should be

fixed on the two-dimension manipulator arms.

9. Please refer to figure 1 for accomplish apparatus installation.

■ Operation

Step 1: Installing Animal (As showed in figure 2 & 3)

1) Anesthetize the animal before proceeding and insert the ear-bar into the animal’sear canals, symmetrically regulate the left and right ear-bars to make the animal

binauricular axis and the two ear-bar tips are on the same line. (It’s optional to fixeither the left or right ear bar and you could slide the adaptor as far anterior aspossible in the U-Frame to allow clearance while installing the animal)

2) Once the animal’s head is basically centered, part the animal’s incisors withforceps and lift the snout up and feed the tooth bar of the adaptor into themouth, lift the incisors over the tooth bar so that the palate will rest onto thetooth bar just behind the incisors, and then carefully tighten the nose clamplocking screw to secure the snout down onto the tooth bar(be careful not to betoo tightly, or else it will have an effect on animal breathing).

3) According to the body weight and bodily form, block up the animal’s body uponthe chassis with a plastic foam or wooden board (or lifting platform made byRWD) to let the animal’s head and body keep horizontal to prevent fromrespiratory obstruction.

1) Shear off the animal’s hair with shaver or curved scissors, disinfect the skin ofsurgical site with both iodine and alcohol-cotton.

2) Confirm the injection position: move the “+” manipulator arm withcorresponding distances to skull surface directly over the target point and mark thesite with positioning tip or other markers. Hippocampus, according to the brain atlasof The Macaca Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, use zygomatic arch as bonelandmark, 11.6 millimeters ahead the midpoint of biauricular line plane, 7millimeters above the plane.

3) Make an incision through the scalp and retract the scalp tissue to clear the top ofthe cranium, and then drill a hole with trephine. Fix the syringe tip onto the holder,and move back the “+” manipulator arm to the skull surface directly over the targetpoint, remain the needle for 5 minutes to prevent the drug from backflow. UseGelatin sponge to fill the cut, then suture.

■Maintenance & Care

● Do not squeeze the device with heavy objects or invert, side place it.

● Wipe the surface of instrument with a soft cloth to avoid scraping the surface by sharpinstrument.

● The instrument should be wiped up and stored at room temperature environment when notusing for a long period.

Note:For any products from RWD, in case of hardware failures during the period of ordinary

operation, one year repair and permanent maintenance warranty are offered.
