A special event was held recently at the KOC tent where the Governor of Ahmadi, Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, honored those who helped organize a ceremony last September on the occasion of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah being named a “Humanitarian Leader” and Kuwait being named a center for humanitarian action. The event was attended by Abdulla Ali Al-Sumaiti, Deputy CEO (South & East Kuwait) who expressed KOC’s pride in hosting and supporting the ceremony. The DCEO main-tained that the Company had merely upheld its duty towards the country and Kuwaiti so-ciety by participating in the event. He added that KOC was keen to promote its community services activities in collaboration with the concerned authorities. At the event, the Governor said that he was proud of the partnership that exists with KOC, which he called the government’s “constant partner.” The Governor then thanked every-one in attendance for the role they played in making the honoring ceremony a success.Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khaled then presented shields and certificates to KOC, KGOC, the Ahmadi Security Directorate, and other groups and organizations who took part in the organization of the ceremony.

KOC Hosts Cyber Crimes Awareness SessionEvent hosted by the Training & Career Development Group

The Training & Career Development Group recently organized a Management Breakfast Session at the Guesthouse. The event was attended by Deputy CEO (Administration & Finance) Saad Al-Azmi, Group Manager Qusai Al-Amer and TL T&CD Bashar Al-Khashti.

The session at the Guesthouse featured a presentation by Yousef Al-Habib, Manager of the Cyber Crimes Investigation Department at the Ministry of Information. Al-Habib’s Deputy, Haitham Othman, was also present. The two spoke about their experience fighting cyber crime in Kuwait and answered questions from the audience.

During the session, the presenters and participants discussed different types of cyber crimes in Kuwait and ways to avoid them, as well as the role that KOC can play in this regard in collaboration with the local authorities.

Capital Asset Physical Inventory Completed in Record Time2014/15 inventory is fastest in KOC history

Under the auspices of DCEO WK Hassan Bunain, and in collaboration with all Teams and Groups in the Directorate, Capital Physical Asset Inventory for 2014-15 was completed in a month’s time. This is the first time in KOC history that such a task was completed in this timeframe.

The Capital Asset Physical Inventory is an annual task that usually takes

six months to complete. This task is very important, as it sorts out all assets in KOC and shows what is owned by the Company, which affects future course of action, decisions and the direction of the Company.

KOC and Kuwait Municipality Form Joint CommitteeTwo sides will cooperate to remove campsites near oil facilities

A joint committee composed of officials from KOC and Kuwait Municipality recently held its first meeting in order follow up on regulations governing camping operations near oil facilities. The committee is also tasked with preventing the establishment of unauthorized camping in restricted areas.

The meeting was chaired by Security Group Manager Sami Al-Yakout, who confirmed that the committee was formed under CEO Hashem Sayed Hashem’s instructions. He also noted that the meeting discussed Kuwait Municipality plans to address the problem of camps established near oil facilities and operations.

Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary of Farwaniya and Ahmadi

Governorates at the Kuwait Municipality, Faisal Al-Jumaa, said that the meeting resulted in an agreement on the formation of a group that will be tasked with removing all camps near oil facilities. Approximately 100 violating camps have already been removed.

As part of the agreement, KOC has formed a special committee to follow up on campsites that are in violation of Kuwait Municipality directives. The committee is comprised of a group of TLs, the Gas Operations Team (South & East Kuwait), Gas Operations Team (North & West Kuwait), Consumer Networks Team, Local Relations Team and the Information Team.

Final Workshop Held for MCDR ProjectAimed at preparing new generation of KOC leaders

KOC and AAPG Host Shale Gas LectureVisiting Professor of Geoscience discusses impact of shale gas

The Geophysical Solution Team at the Exploration Group, in conjunction with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation, recently hosted a lecture by Dr. Terry Engelder, a Professor of Geoscience. During his talk, Dr. Engelder discussed shale gas and its impact on industrial development in the world. The event, which was organized by TL Mohammed Al-Ajmi, was well attended by KOC employees and guests.

During his presentation, Dr. Engelder talked about the boom of shale gas extraction in the United States and the impact it is having on the industry. He also discussed the consequent environmental impacts and how to extract shale gas safely.

Dr. Engelder’s lecture is part of a series of lectures organized by AAPG in the Middle East every year, which has the stated goal of presenting advanced research in petroleum geology in various countries throughout the region. Dr. Engelder’s visit to Kuwait is the fourth in the Gulf region. He previously visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and will soon make a visit to Bahrain.

The Technical Support Group recently held its second and final workshop on the Mid-Career Development Roadmap Project (MCDR) under the supervision of the Technical Support Group Manager Nayef Al-Anezi and Eisa Al-Daihani, Team Leader of the Technical Personnel Development Team. The purpose of the workshop was to help KOC develop a structured mid-career roadmap based on specific job disciplines as a long-term solution for the next generation of leaders for KOC’s workforce.

Meanwhile, a team was established in order to gather, review and analyze

information related to competency development at KOC. The team will also design the Mid-Career Development Roadmap for Company employees in order to accelerate staff development, implement succession planning, and achieve elements of KOC’s 2030 Strategy.

Various deliverables are expected for this project, including the MCDR, a proposal mechanism for its implementation, research and resource documents, a presentation for the Subsurface TIU, and recommendations for the way forward for the project.

CSD DCEO Conducts Site Verification VisitProgress on Dental Clinic examined, HSE standards upheld

KOC Delivers Presentation on RecyclingRoad and Support Team discusses importance of recycling at schools

Ismail Abdullah, Deputy CEO Corporate Services Directorate, recently vis-ited Phase-II of the Dental Clinic Building. The site is one of the new projects that CSD is carrying Site Verification Visits on.

HSE TL Sami Al-Kandari was present during the visit, which was carried out to follow up on the workflow of the project. The team in charge of the site from Corporate Projects Team II (CP-II) was also present.

The Road and Support Team recently delivered presentations about the importance of recycling at the Houma Elementary School for Girls in Zahra and the Tolaitila High School for Girls in Qurain.

The lectures, which were aimed at reminding students about the benefits and importance of recycling, were delivered by Aishya Al Shaya, Fay Al-Jarki and Afifa Aryan under the supervision of their Team Leader, Abdu-laziz Al-Otaibi.

The visiting delegation also discussed KOC’s recycling efforts and how the Company utilizes a specialized site for the collection and sorting of waste in Ahmadi. The site is open to school students, and many field trips are often organized to the location.

At the end of the presentation, an educational competition was organized for the students and gifts were presented to the winners.

HR Team (EO) Organizes Honorary CeremonyTwo employees retire after decades of service while new TL is announced

Quality & HSE Team Conducts Regular Visits to Construction SitesAwareness sessions delivered to workers

The Quality & HSE Team (Major Projects & Technical Services Directorate) continues to conduct periodic visits to all major construction sites at KOC.

During these visits, the Q&HSE Team delivers awareness sessions on ISSOW (Integrated Safe System of Work), and emphasizes the importance of commitment to roles and procedures pertaining to HSE towards workers while they are on duty.

Fares Al-Mansouri, TL Q&HSE, stated that these field visits include all work sites for contractors. In addition, awareness sessions were attended by employees, supervisors and senior officials, where the sessions were met with interaction and positive feedback. Many of those who participated in filling out assessment forms asserted that these sessions were beneficial and informative.

Senior Engineer Mubarak Al-Ahmed maintained that the sessions consisted of eight major ISSOW elements, which include working from heights, work permits, analysis and assessment of risks, training and awareness, driving, drilling works and presentation. He added that the awareness program is ongoing, aims to enhance HSE culture and draws the attention of workers to details related to HSE, especially when carrying out construction projects.

The HR Team (Export Operations) recently organized an honorary ceremony for three of its employees. Ali Jawhar and Lafi Al-Harbi, both served KOC for more than 30 years, were commended for their long service and loyalty to the Company while Ali Al-Turki was promoted to TL Human Resources (Security).

The ceremony was attended by Deputy CEO (West Kuwait) Hassan Bunain, Manager Marine Operations Group Fadhel Boresle, and TL HR Export Operations Faleh Al-Azmi, in addition to a number of other Company employees.

The ceremony included a luncheon for staff and officials from Export Operations and Marine Operations. During the event, Al-Azmi delivered a speech in which he praised the efficiency and excellence exhibited by the three honorees. He then wished them success in their professional and personal lives.

In statements they made during the ceremony, Jawhar and Al-Harbi expressed how they were proud to have spent a lifetime in service to the Company. They then thanked the event’s organizers and said they were appreciative of the farewell gesture.

The Training Unit from the Exploration Group has organized three “Lunch & Learn” sessions in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. The aim of these sessions was to share knowledge, give KOC employees an opportunity to share ideas, and discuss the latest techniques in the petroleum industry. The first session, which is the 10th within the series, was presented by Dr. Waleed Al-Bazzaz, Associate Research Scientist & Petroleum Production Coordinator at Ku-wait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). The session discussed the history of the oil industry. The second session and the 11th in the series was titled “Submarine U-Boat Technol-ogy, Geology and More” and was presented by Aimen Amer, a Petroleum Systems Specialist and Schlumberger NKJ Exploration Project Manager. The third and 12th session in the series, “Synergistic Interpretation of Vintage Data-sets: A Game Changer for Tertiary Exploration” was delivered by Riyasat Husain and Dr. Parmjit Singh from the Exploration Studies Team.At the end of each session, a Certificate of Appreciation was granted to the pre-senters for their cooperation in sharing knowledge and best practices on technical issues.

CSG Organizes KPM Awareness SessionsSessions cover important information related to contracts

The Commercial Support Group recently organized two awareness sessions on the New KPMs (Key Performance Measures) that are aimed at reducing Adjustment Orders in KOC Contracts. The measures also aim to provide timely renewal of service contracts and to improve KOC’s performance by avoiding the issuance of Adjustment Orders and Extension of Service Contracts.

The Commercial Support Group previously carried out awareness sessions to KOC and PMC personnel on these topics in order to avoid

their occurrences, and guidelines were published in January of 2014. The measures are the result of numerous observations on contractual issues made by KOC and other organizations.

The two sessions were chaired by Mahmoud Al-Damkhi, Ag. Manager Commercial Support Group and TL Performance Management Ghanima Al-Kandari. The session was delivered by TPL Specialist Haider Al-Zaqqah from the Studies and Strategic Supply Team and was attended by employees, Team Leaders and Managers from across KOC.

Breast Cancer Awareness CampaignOrganized by Information Team in collaboration with Ahmadi Hospital

The Information Team recently initiated and organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in collaboration with the Health Promotion Unit at Ahmadi Hospital.

In order to highlight the social role KOC plays, two exhibitions were orga-nized at Mall 360 and the Avenues. CEO Hashem Sayed Hashem attended the campaign and affirmed his support for this humanitarian cause. The event was also attended by DECOs Saad Al-Azmi and Hassan Bunain, TL Information Mohammed Al-Basry, and Head of the Health Promotion Unit at Ahmadi Hospital Dr. Intisar Al-Hindal.

Exhibitions included various activities aimed at shedding light on the dis-ease, its prevention, and ways to fight it. These activities gained the atten-tion of the audience, and winners were awarded prizes while gifts and brochures were handed to the audience.

The successful campaign was the culmination of efforts put forth by volun-teers from KOC, LOYAC, the Faculty of Medicine at KU, and the contribu-tion of doctors from KCCC. A staff of medical specialists from Canada, along with a medical team from Ahmadi Hospital, also attended the exhibi-tion. They all provided advisory and consultancy services to the audience and responded to their questions and concerns.
