For those who have been doinG any full-time study for their 1957/8 postgraduate quCtlification (the one deGcribed in Q.4(1)), the date of starting employment should be counted as the date on which they stopped continuous full-time study. 'l'his means that Q.11 is not to be coded separately. It should be used to supplement the information recorded under Q.13.
Post-doctoral fellowships, research fellowships and in service traineeships for doctors should be counted as jobs: so in general should posts of research assistant, but ask in doubtful cases. This classification may involve corrections to the earlier coding of Q.4 (Cols.22 - 49), since some people may have been counted af,studying full-time while they held posts of this kind. It is therefore essential to check a) that all posts of this kind are included as jobs and b) that all study undertaken while holding posts of this kind is· counted as part-time. Particular care should be taken with doctors, who in some cases have coUnted themselves as full-time students and not 6~ven any details of their employment. They should be counted as 'postgraduate apprentices' in the 'hospital service'.
