  • Photo a day project: August 19th 2013. Dancing with yaks. Central Mongolia. There's that slight moment of hesitation when you go to

step out of your tent in the early hours of the morning to answer the call of nature, just to be faced with a huge horned yak staring

and grunting at you. Would you still go?

  • Photo a day project: August 20th 2013. It's not camping without a crackling campfire. Central Mongolia. Playing cards, drinking

homemade vodka and listening to live Mongolian folk songs under the almost full moon was one of our most memorable nights in

    Mongolia.

  • Photo a day project: August 21st 2013. Horse guide. Central Mongolia. Having lived most of our lives in large cities, our horse riding experience had never extended any further than being led

around in a circle at a state fair. But after 4 days under the watchful eye of our excellent horse guides, we were confidently galloping

across endless expanses of Mongolian steppes.

  • Photo a day project: August 22nd 2013. Freshly squeezed yak. Central Mongolia. Milk, and the various dairy products made from

it, form a major part of the Mongolian diet. Large herds of yaks, cows, goats, sheep and even horses can be seen wandering the

steppes until they're ready to be milked. Fermented mare's milk is an especially popular beverage shared amongst guests.

  • Photo a day project: August 23rd 2013. Five-star ger. Central Mongolia. Despite all appearances, the average family ger is quite spacious inside, easily accommodating 4-6 single beds along the

inner wall. This particularly elaborate one belonged to a family member who kindly vacated the space during our stay.

  • Photo a day project: August 24th 2013. Break from prayers. Kharkhorum, Mongolia. Located adjacent to Mongolia's ancient capital of Kharkhorum, this Tibetan Buddhist monastery features

an extraordinary 108 stupas along its outer walls and has survived countless wars, including a Communist-led purge in the mid 1900's

which killed over 10,000 monks. It is still today an active place of worship as well as being a museum and popular tourist attraction.

  • Photo a day project: August 25th 2013. Golden eagle. Kharkhorum, Mongolia. These impressive birds are so big and powerful that they are used by the Kazakh people of Mongolia to hunt wolves! Please

search YouTube and be ready to be astonished.

  • Photo a day project: August 26th 2013. Morning dew. Central Mongolia. Just a quick sneak peak into our upcoming "The Month

in Photos: August 2013" featuring Mongolian wild flowers.

  • Photo a day project: August 27th 2013. Windows XP. Central Mongolia. This particular day was filled with boring administration work so here's an interesting one from our final day horse riding in

Central Mongolia. Brings back fond nerdy memories : )
