Bernice was fed up of feeling confused about her own life, so she threw herself into the business partnership with Ambrose. They needed more gigs, and Bernice had found a man who threw parties and who agreed to interview Ambrose.

The idea was that if he took Ambrose on he would promote her to all his customers, and she would keep her diary free to play whenever he needed her to. The customer would pay him, but Ambrose would get 90% of the fee.

Bernice was planning to take 40% for herself as the business partner, leaving Ambrose with 50% of the fee of her own performance.

The business deal struck, Bernice saw an opportunity to further distract herself by playing matchmaker. Frank had displayed an interest in Ambrose’s look when she’d shown him their website…

Ambrose seemed to like him well enough, though she was always friendly to everyone. It was enough for Frank Kess though, who agreed to the deal in hope of seeing more of her.

Bernice watched them dancing and envied Ambrose the simplicity of her outlook on life. How did she do it?

Frank turned on the charm, and the inexperienced Ambrose was so flattered by the attention she reciprocated without a second thought! When they left, Ambrose was grinning like a cheshire cat after her first kiss.

She tried to talk to Bernice about her magical night, but Bernice had other things on her mind.

Had she known it had been Ambrose’s first kiss she would have paid more attention, maybe warned her about the kind of man Frank was. But she didn’t know, so Ambrose was left to fall in love in ignorance.

She went round his house a few days later when he called to organise her first fixture. She tried flirting, which he found adorable.

She was gorgeous, and talented… he decided he was interested in her after all. He might even make it a long term liaison if she was fun.

Back in the Street and Harry was making life difficult at number 7 again. He had no appetite because he was feeling ill. Not wanting to admit any weakness, he went on the offensive to distract from his condition. Ariette and Annette ignored his rant, and the amount he managed to eat.

Hoping it was just indigestion he tried going for a walk after dinner but it didn’t help. He had to take his stick with him just to make it through his usual route.

Over the next few weeks he became increasingly unwell. But being his stubborn self, he wasn’t about to let his wayward daughter or impressionable granddaughter know anything about it.
