The musical feel of the series evokes the early rock’n’roll “Jet Propulsion” song

that the Propulsion family hear when they first follow a radio signal to Earth.

Like the 50’s, it’s upbeat and positive. JET and the kids all have their own songs

about who they are. The musical style can range from rock’n’roll to Broadway.

This rocking, retro vibe works with the show’s mid-century design and setting.

READY JET GO! has been created by Craig Bartlett, creator of PBS KIDS’

DINOSAUR TRAIN and Nickelodeon’s HEY ARNOLD! and produced by

Wind Dancer Films, major producer of motion pictures WHAT WOMEN WANT,

BERNIE and family TV series HOME IMPROVEMENT, ROSEANNE, with assistance

and curriculum support from scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL),

through which the series has access to NASA photo and video archives.

An alien family with vastly superior technology is traveling across

the galaxy on assignment; the parents are travel writers. They

pick up a radio signal of a catchy 1950’s rock’n’roll song called

“Jet Propulsion” that leads them to Earth, which they find to be a

first-rate planet: lush and beautiful, worthy of staying awhile and

writing up several travel articles. They morph into human shape,

call themselves the Propulsion family, and name their kid JET,

thinking it a “typical Earth name.” When their flying saucer morphs

into the shape of a house and lands in a vacant lot, two kids witness

the event: neighbors SEAN and SYDNEY. The front door bursts open,

JET PROPULSION hops out, and immediately becomes their best friend.

He’s friendly and curious and fun, plus his parents have a flying saucer

that can zoom them out to Saturn in one minute flat! JET is what both

kids have always wished for. He’s the most interesting kid ever,

and an ambassador for space: “Space is so cool!!”

The Characters

There’s one more neighbour who’s in on the secret of the Propulsion family: MINDY MELENDEZ lives across the street and is always coming over to see what the bigger kids are doing. MINDY is 4, so she asks the real questions that 4-year-olds ask about space. The answers to these questions are often what the episodes are about. MINDY may not know as much as the older kids, but she’s welcomed into the group, treated as an equal, and never talked down to. MINDY also has a close relationship with Jet’s alien PET...

Mindy

SEAN is all about the science. The son of scientists and astronauts, he wants to be a greatscientist when he grows up and lead the first mission to Mars. The problem is SEAN’S afraid of heights and being in cramped spaces, and he gets space-sick easily. So he’s trying to overcome these obstacles before growing up. SEAN is the practical one, always insisting on doing things the old-fashioned way even though he’s now suddenly hanging out in a very science-fiction reality with JET! SEAN’S a big fan of following the rules of the Scientific Method, which he sings about in his own song.

Next door is SYDNEY - the science-fiction kid. She loves sci-fi stories of any kind and dreams of writing her own great story. She follows the adventures of a multi-platform series called “Commander Cressida,” about a fearless female spaceship captain. SYDNEY is all about using her imagination. So imagine how happy SYDNEY is when the Propulsion family drop their saucer down in her cul-de-sac! SYDNEY does her best to keep the Propulsion family from giving away their secret alien identity, which is hard, because the Propulsions always forget NOT to tell people that they come from Bortron 7!

The Story

JET is a typical kid from Bortron 7, but he’s extraordinary to the kids next door. He’s always curious, fearless and leaps before he looks. He’s unafraid of failure - You just can’t get him down. JET is like the Music Man; you never know when he might burst into song. He could make one up at any moment! JET can build anything and he is endlessly delighted by our planet, which is huge, lush and varied to him. He often points out the wonder of ordinary things to the Earth kids.

Jet

SUNSPOT is a Bortronian pet, a kind of cross between a dog, cat, bunny, and raccoon. SUNSPOT doesn’t talk, but he likes to imitate the sounds of various other animals. He also makes sound effects, so he’s like Gerald McBoingBoing. He’s a pantomime like Harpo Marx, with Snoopy’s rich inner life and R2D2’s independence. He is often the smartest one in the room and way ahead of what the kids are doing or thinking. And he’s the beloved pet of the Propulsion family and a great friend to MINDY... and JET.

The educational mission of READY JET GO! is to build on children’s curiosity

about astronomy and earth science, telling stories that feature characters

learning about space in a way that is accessible to 3-8 year-old children.

READY JET GO! uses inventive visuals and upbeat songs to engage, entertain

and make young viewers laugh and learn.
