News from SUNY Potsdam The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named Jason Kryszak of Eden, NY to the SUNY Potsdam Dean's List. Kryszak, whose major is Geology, was among 370 students who were honored for academic excellence in the Spring 2016 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the Dean's List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of between 3.25 and 3.49 in the given semester.

Company of the Year Award The Boys and Girls Club of Eden recently recognized three local companies who went above and beyond serving the local non-profit organization. The Club strives to pro-vide a safe and engaging place for children to learn, grow, and develop – and their ability to do so has been greatly enhanced thanks to the help of Annese & Associates, In-gram Micro, and Cisco. First, an assessment of what the Club had and what was needed was done. Annese & Asso-ciates graciously provided this service on a pro-bono basis in October 2016. Jon Leach and Brandon Kuras performed an on-site review. Now that the Club knew what was needed, they had to procure the hardware and software. The spark for this was Susan O’Sullivan from Ingram Micro. She brought in Carla Cicero from Cisco and by working their magic with their teams, procured everything the Club needed to complete this crucial project. The last step was the installation. Jeff Barnhart and Peter Avino graciously donated their time and talent to install all the equipment and get it up and running. The Club is pleased to say the network is in place and effectively help-ing them to manage the services they provide to the mem-bers of the Club.

Members of the Year Award On June 2nd the Boys and Girls Club of Eden recently recognized two members who exemplify the Club’s core beliefs. The staff at the Boys & Girls Club, who have worked the members all year and frequently witnessed the recipients’ positive character, selects both recipients. Paige Metros, the female member of the year, has attend-ed the Club for three years. She participates in Cooking Club, arts and crafts, and enjoys educational games and challenges. Paige frequently takes the opportunity to get her homework done at the Club. She was the top point earner for Project Learn this year. She is also a two-year Ju-nior Staff member and one of the most reliable kids to ever come through the Junior Staff program. Paige is extremely helpful and polite. She is encouraging of other members and is always willing to assist staff with anything they ask of her. Paige has one of the most positive and caring atti-tudes of anyone at the Club and we are so extremely proud to give her the award. Camdin LoBello, the male member of the year, dem-onstrates kindness, respect, and manners to everyone he meets. He can be seen in Power Hour doing homework, in the craft room, outside on the recreation court, in doing cooking club, and playing sports in the rec room. Camdin is a model member that the other boys can look towards. He always is kind to the staff, friends, and even to the members he doesn’t know as well. Camdin always comes to the club with an amazing smile on his face and knows just how to brighten anyone’s day. He is genuinely a model member and will grow up to be an amazing adult!

News from SUNY OswegoSUNY Oswego has named several high-performing stu-dents from the area to the President's List for spring 2016 for earning grade point averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale: Arielle T. Schunk of Eden, a senior majoring in communication and social interaction and Brett M. Wilder of Eden, a senior majoring in operations management and information systems. News from Buffalo State More than 500 Buffalo State students presented their own research or creative work at the annual Student Re-search and Creativity Celebration held on campus in April 2016. Students from many academic disciplines including art, business, education, science, and technology explained their work using posters or presentations. Mrs.Van Wie was born Decem-ber 28, 1928 in Eden, NY, the only surviving child of the late Elmer H. and Ev-elyn G. (Kirbis) Reed. She was in sales for Stanley Home Products starting in Western New York and was transferred to CT as a Division Sales Manager for over 30 years. Larry A. WroblewskiLarry A. Wroblewski, Vol-unteer Fireman, Editor, and Writer, of North Collins, NY passed June 4, 2016 at age 59. He will always be remembered as a volun-teer, as a giver of himself. Whether he was at a fire hall, in a church basement, or with among friends, he was always willing to help others. Larry was the Re-cording Secretary of the North Collins Volunteer Fire Company, and owner of Polograph. Wroblewski was born February 15, 1957 in Buffalo, and lived on the city’s East Side, where he worked at Corpus Christi Parish as a custodian while attending Canisius College. At the church, he was an al-tar server, lector, and usher. His willingness to help oth-ers brought him to the Par-ish Council, and Holy Name Society, of which he became president. Wroblewski played bass and sang with the parish’s folk group. He also belonged to the Corpus Christi Athletic Club and its bowling league. Wro-blewski took an active role in Corpus Christi’s Scout-ing Program, and eventually became leader of Pack 913. Concerned about the neigh-borhood, he served on the Board of the Polish Com-munity, today known as the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center of W.N.Y. Wroblewski was a gradu-ate of Bishop Turner High School. He attended Cani-sius College, graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He was a member of the college’s Schuyler Colfax Thinking Club. Wroblewski has long been a part of Western New York’s print media. He worked at Am-PolEagle as a reporter while in college. He later joined the staff of the Polish American Voice,

which merged with the Polish American Journal, where he served as a report-er, columnist, and editor. He has been the newspa-per’s Senior Associate Edi-tor since 1984. Wroblews-ki began his own editorial and graphicarts company, Polograph, which produced The Irish Times and publi-cations for the Greater Ni-agara Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a staff reporter for the Community Papers of Western New York, and was a regular columnist in the Gowanda News, Springville Journal, and The Sun. Wro-blewski and wife Basia (Bar-bara) Karkosza were mar-ried in 1992, and moved to North Collins, where Larry soon became involved in the community. He joined the North Collins Volunteer Fire Company, and served as its president and vice presi-dent. He took an active role in the North Collins School District, and volunteered in its Music Boosters , Sports Boosters, and PTA. The Wroblewski’s became mem-bers of Holy Spirit Church, where Larry joined its Holy Name Society, and took on the chair of many parish functions. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Amelia, Isabelle, and Sabrina; cousins, many friends, and business as-sociates. Funeral services were held at Wentland Fu-neral Home, North Collins, and a Mass of Christian Burial was at Holy Spirit RC Church, North Collins.

Leadership Award Recipient Eric Cooper was the recipient of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) Leadership Award at the An-nual Awards Dinner on May 25. Due to the volume of questions, the North Collins Town Board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the North Collins Hall, 10569 Main Street, North Collins, NY 14111. The purpose of this meeting will be to inform residents on the status of what has transpired and what the Town Board intends to do going forward.
