“6 Women: Slaves and Leaders of Arab Spring” Video-documentary The Concept North and South Mediterranean are connected through flows of women, vicms of human trafficking and forced slavery. Acknowledgment of women’s role in their own sociees fades like a mirage in Northern African desert. In South Mediterranean, women are lock in a challenging environment. They are captured in a schizophrenic transion with no clear direcon, where elements of secularism and contemporaneity are creang a brand new social patchwork. Despite all that, women are the most powerful engine of social, economic and cultural change in the Arab Spring scenario. Their daily struggle for autonomy and self-empowerment is an act of rebellion to tradional sociees that predominantly confines theirs roles and acvies to the domesc sphere. Women are now leading as contemporary entrepreneurs; they generate social and economic development, drive polical processes and are changing secular cultural stereotypes. It is with the strength and courage of their examples and stories that southern Mediterranean women are inspiring new generaons, opening new opportunies, shaping a new society. The Project The project ”6 Women: Slaves and Leaders of Arab Spring” is a powerful and impacng social documentary casng a light on contemporary phenomena changing our world. The project will capture and present to the public contrasng trends and dynamics of turbulences blowing in the region. It will gather 3 representave human stories of women affected by physical, social and polical violence to show and understand how modern slavery is affecng the Mediterranean and Northern African Region. At the same the documentary will mix and contrast the stories of modern slaves with other 3 remarkable stories of successful women leading the change in their countries. These personal stories will talk about the ideas, challenges and social condions women had to overcome to become empowered leaders of their economic, social and polical future. The 6 stories will come from 6 different naons in the Mediterranean and North African Region to highlight countries’ specificies but will eventually unite and form an exceponal human patchwork addressing common trends and developments for the whole region. The 6 women will ulmately meet to share their lives and experiences, creang also a strong emoonal impact in terms of mutual solidarity, reflecon and inspiraon for themselves and their sociees. The Concept North and South Mediterranean are connected through flows of women, victims of human trafficking and forced slavery. Women capacities of contributing economically to their communities crash like waves on the rocks facing European continent. Acknowledgment of women’s role in their own societies fades like a mirage in Northern African desert.

In South Mediterranean, women are lock in a challenging environment. They are captured in a schizophrenic transition with no clear direction, where elements of secularism and contemporaneity are creating a brand new social patchwork.

Despite all that, women are the most powerful engine of social, economic and cultural change in the Arab Spring scenario.

Their daily struggle for autonomy and self-empowerment is an act of rebellion to traditional societies that predominantly confines theirs roles and activities to the domestic sphere. Women are now leading as contemporary entrepreneurs; they generate social and economic development, drive political processes and are changing secular cultural stereotypes.

It is with the strength and courage of their examples and stories that southern Mediterranean women are inspiring new generations, opening new opportunities, shaping a new society.

The ProjectThe project ”6 Women: Slaves and Leaders of Arab Spring” is a powerful and impacting social documentary casting a light on contemporary phenomena changing our world.

The project will capture and present to the public contrasting trends and dynamics of turbulences blowing in the region.

It will gather 3 representative human stories of women affected by physical, social and political violence to show and understand how modern slavery is affecting the Mediterranean and Northern African Region.

At the same the documentary will mix and contrast the stories of modern slaves with other 3 remarkable stories of successful women leading the change in their countries. These personal stories will talk about the ideas, challenges and social conditions women had to overcome to become empowered leaders of their economic, social and political future.

The 6 stories will come from 6 different nations in the Mediterranean and North African Region to highlight countries’ specificities but will eventually unite and form an exceptional human patchwork addressing common trends and developments for the whole region.

The 6 women will ultimately meet to share their lives and experiences, creating also a strong emotional impact in terms of mutual solidarity, reflection and inspiration for themselves and their societies.
