The acutelystressful event (death in the family, job loss, divorce, exams, etc.)‘shocks’ the hair into the resting phase of the hair growth cycle and thoseaffected can lose up to 20% of their hair. The shedding can occur up to23 months after the stressful event. It typically grows back within 6 to 9
months.”
Hereditary hairloss, called androgenetic alopecia, is another major cause that affects approximately 80 million people inthe U.S, according to the AAD.
